@joebristol- thanks for the fork synopsis. Very useful for me as I need new forks but haven’t been keeping up with developments.

All I need now is someone to do similar for Fox, cane creek, dvo, dt etc! 😁😉

28mm at 100psi is pretty high.

Try them at 80. I run my front at around 75 but happy to go lower too.

I’m feeling a bit low ATM.

54, triathlete, ironman, ultra runner blah blah

Woke up one morning last August with a swollen knee. No incident to trigger it.

Torn medial meniscus. It’s still not healed properly.

Surgeon says surgery wont improve it. Looks like running is off the agenda.

Cycling is no problem so that’s good, but I love a long run in the hills and I’m really missing it.

I need to rummage around in the back of the cupboard to find a can of MTFU.

    :-)

Getting old is shite. But the alternative is worse!

I’ve heard it works, as it’s how I can get a 50 tooth on my NX11 setup.

Let us know before I buy one ;)

I’ve driven over it a few times. I’m not scared of a decent climb.

I have no idea how people ride up it either!

Thanks mark90. I’ll need to “date” my forks then!

I think they might be 2011 or 12.

I live in that area and still get lost! Navigation can be difficult as often there is no clear trail across moorland etc.

I could dig out an Elan Valley route GPX.

I tend to ride with the locals who know all the wild and unmarked bits, and I frequently have no idea where I am!

6’4″, 85kg, I have xl in a Castilli ss jersey. Not sure if its race fit tho, but think it is.

A really nice piece of kit and nice to wear.

I got a lime green one for the visibility aspect.

I ride xl bikes. Never had one under 34lb, or 15.5kg if you prefer.

To get much lighter you will be spending. Droppers add a bit remember, plus you need reliable components so will either be slightly heavier or much more expensive.

I demoed a flaremax recently, not on your list and not cf or alloy but very nice e ride and long reach.

Also some of the new Santa Cruz are getting longer and are similar money to what you are looking at.

But, will you always want that Jeffsy? If so, you are better off buying that as you will keep looking at it.

If you were in mid Wales I’d have them.

    Well that worked a treat.

Thanks for the links above, and to Peter Poddy’s pics.

I re-used the existing cable operated top knob with a couple of layers of inner tube washers under it for enough friction to keep it in position. So I still have all the adjustments as before, just on the top cap.

A test in anger tomorrow night.

    In London too Funkmasterp.

Imagine the numbers that have been through there!

    Feeling dirty 😩🤣

Fiddling around in sheeps insides? Pah!

(Doffs cap to welshfarmer – I’ll be back in Llandod tonight)

    I’m with deadkenny.

I just use one chain and wear the drive train out.

Current one is years old and still works fine.

The jockey wheels are like sharpened death stars.

Put the old chain back on and ride it. And keep riding it.

    Thanks all.

Working away for a couple of days so will get on it on Weds morning.

Simply unlocking a spring sounds ideal.

I’ve been riding with them unlocked for a few weeks with no problems so the aim will be to set them unlocked and leave them like that.

Cheers scc999 I’ll have a butcher’s later in the week.

I’m playing around converting my 26er revs to 29er using the recon lowers on the rev uppers.

Currently got my 26er stumpy evo running 29er “rev-cons” with 29 front wheel and 26 rear.

I really should just buy that Cotic flaremax I demoed, but enjoying the experimentation at the moment.

I was wondering where you got your user name muddy legs!

Always pee going downhill, when going at speed.

It doesn’t make it past your knees so you don’t end up weeing in your own shoes !

It also discourages those pesky drafters

A pro on last years ironman Wales ran past me on the marathon. I think he misjudged a fart while running. It was all down the back of his legs. Now that is nails.

I don’t mind peeing in my wetsuit but cant do it whilst actually swimming!

    Yep, not a problem.

Triathlete here. Peeing while pedalling took some practice but became “normal”.

The Drawing Room, Cwm Bach near Builth Wells. Close enough to Brecon and Elan Valley.

Small, only 3 rooms, 10 seat restaurant with open kitchen.

Amazing food and super relaxed chilled atmosphere.

Just down the road from us. We go for a meal regularly.

Direct Line have been very good for us over the last few years. About £16 a month for two of us, two cars, but we are covered for any vehicle that we are in.

Our policy is up in May so we are now going for the joint bank account thing as above with breakdown, travel, phone etc insurance for £13 a month.

I’ve tried a few, being a triathlonist and all that.

Best one I’ve used is an Altura Sprint energy pack.

Sits very stable. Zipped. Good capacity.

I use it mainly on mtb for carrying tools and it is rock solid as the straps are a good length and elastic ated so you can get it nice and tight.

    Cheap too.

For the floorboards could you take a decent one from elsewhere on the floor that sees less traffic, and swap them over? Glue/tie/fill the broken one and put it in the low traffic area.

Blimey, out for 5 hours is a good stretch in the dark.

I did a 3 hour ride last night, which was enough for me.

Great that you are enjoying being out on the bike, and don’t worry about speed or fitness, that will come with just getting out there.

I see what you mean re one a bit long, one a bit short.

    I’d go longer one.

But the shorter one looks like it should be ok, the chain through the jockeys still has a bit to give, and you have no suspension movement to worry about. Will the jockey cage still move a bit more on the big big?

    Watching.

The xxl is on my list as I’m 6’4 and want a longer bike.

Looking at both Hightower and tallboy. Only the conservative geo ha etc is giving me concerns.

Got a demo on a Cotic flaremax tomorrow as that’s another long un and slacker too which is more my thang.

I use a non breakaway lanyard on mine, coz that’s what i have.

Good job too as the light did get knocked off by a low branch before it was dark enough to have the light on. I woudlnt have known the light had even been knocked off if it wasn’t on a lanyard, and would never have found it.

I’m going from Llandrindod to Calver on Saturday morning for a demo on a Cotic.

Will be going up via a483 oswestry then m56 I think it is, across that way.

We often drive up to family nearer to Derby and go a44 crossgates to penybont them whatever the road is to Knighton, craven arms, m54 a38. So that’s an alternative which you could then go a6 from derby, or a52 to ashbourne, depending where in the peaks you are going.

I use Vantage FS. They are based just outside of Nottingham but I’ve just refreshed my mortgage with them all o line/over the phone as we are in mid Wales

Geri the proprietor is ace at sorting situations out, like our mortgage before last which was a bit messy for various reasons.

I’m booked in to demo a FlareMAX this weekend.

Will see if they give anything away.

Is this thread specifically Flare rather than FlareMAX?

I just use the cheapest SRAM 11 speed chain, about £12.
