I have a 6 burner Leisuregrow gas bbq.

    Must be 10 years old.

Lives outside, mostly uncovered except for the depths of winter when it goes under a tin roof with open sides.

Still in pretty good condition and works perfectly, even the piezo ignition.

I got it at the end of the season for a bargain price, so might be worth waiting another month if you can.

My SRAM NX 11 speed derailleur is only rated up to 42 tooth rear sprocket.

I would need a 12 speed mech to go bigger.

Presume the higher end kit is the same so you would either need a 12 speed mech, which I understand works with 11speed shifters, or use a 42 cassette.

    Loving the replies.

It could be a mole. We have some. Their tunnels/holes are surprisingly small and they would dig in to a pile of turf.

Unlikely to be a Louise. Louise holes are normally pretty big!

I’ve heard that Panthers don’t need very big holes.

    So panther.

Many years ago when I was in my twenties a mate had birthday bash.

I bought him a marrow and a tin of spam.

    No relevance or significance!

Nice one Poopy, great perseverance given previous hiccups!

    An inspiration to us all.

Soooo, if I was to put a rigid fork on my Orange Clockwork 100 29er, coz the ancient Recons on it are rubbish heavy and knackered, what are the recommended not silly expensive ones?

I’d probably be looking at boost/29+ for the option of a bit of cush and a bit of future flexibility.

Think Carbon would suit it better than steel, and I like the look of the monocoque type forks more.

Waiting for One Planet Adventure to tell me that the XXL demo one is ready for me to have a blast on.

Demoed a Bird AM 9 last weekend and that was ace and is current top of the list.

The Hightower just needs to beat that and the credit card is getting a mullering.

If it doesn’t then the Bird is getting bought.

Been using normal cranks and bb bearings in a pf30 adapter on my spesh for about 5 years with no problems.

Oddly the pf30 to std bb adapter came with the frame. Like “we made this great new thing and here’s some stuff so you can change it back to the old thing”

Blimey! A mention of Dumpys Rusty Nuts up there.

Used to love seeing them back in the day.

Didn’t know they were famous enough to have a tribute act!

A while back a friends wife booked a load of us on to see a Robbie Williams tribute act as she was obsessed with him and take that. She booked a table at the front for the best view and everything. And it was a tribute act ffs!

    Watching with interest.

I have some Recon 29ers which are heavy.

I have fitted the much lighter uppers from my 26er revelations, but there is some play.

Think new bushings might make it useable.

It would probably be financially cheaper to send them away to be sorted rather than buying new forks given the current prices.

I’ve just had good service from Vision Express in Brecon. Not near Bristol, but nearest Oakley prescription optician near me (20 odd miles away!)

They knew what I wanted over the phone, and talked knowlegdeably about the different frames and lens options.

So I went to see them. No pushy sales.
Happy for me to go away to think about it.

To reglaze my day specs wasn’t that much cheaper.

Phoned them up and confirmed the order. But yeah £400+

So maybe give the Bristol branch a try?

I went SRAM NX 1×11 a couple of years ago. As cheap as possible on a parts bin build.

    Been faultless.

I’m in mid-Wales so some big draggy climbs. Just get yer head down and grunt it out. Not had to walk anything that I wouldn’t have previously walked.

    I’m 32T Oval Narrow/Wide front ring with 42T rear.

That suggestion of SLX and Sunrace from Zippykona for £125 is a bargain. Might even get one to put on the wife’s bike.

I’ve had a Giant Contact Switch on my HT for a couple of years. Been faultless. Was about 150 quid.

Also had a genuine Gravity Dropper for about 10 years. Still faultless.

If you need to get rid of ants, you need to go full stw!

    Coffee grounds.

We have had ants nest in one of our veg beds for years. Nothing would stop them. Always the same bed.

We grow organically.we got desperate and used ant powder but they came back.

We then started to put coffee grounds into the beds where the nest is. No more ants.

They did move along a bit so we put more in and they haven’t been back.

We used to put the grounds in the compost but they now go straight on the beds.

    Sorted.

    I speak from experience.

Its quicker to run barefoot, jump on your bike, then sort your shoes out while moving, than it is to stand still in transition while putting cycling shoes on, then run in stiff soled cycling shoes with your bike to the mount line, then get on your bike and clip in and get moving.

Might only be 20 or 30 seconds but at the pointy end of a tri that can be 20 places, which can be the difference between qualifying for a certain event or not. Which for pros can be a pay cheque, or for amateurs it could be making the GB age group squad, or just beating your club mates for bragging rights.

    Aqua sphere Kayenne for me.

But fit is very personal. I tried loads before I settled on these.

Can you fit a different airshaft to the Reba to increase travel?

Also I have a 26er stumpy evo which has integrated headset so I don’t think I can use an angle set on it. Yours may be the same.

Have you googled the jaguar land rover 2litre engine oil issue?

Basically of you are doing mainly around town driving they need simar short oil change intervals. Some technical guff about the dpf not getting hot enough so it does something with the fuel that dilutes the oil.

Sounds like yours is the same.

Try a decent spin up the M1 once a week after the next oil change and see if that improves the issue.

We didn’t buy an evoque for that reason. And there is some stuff where now that they have acknowledged it, if you buy one you don’t get any dispensation. Only those who bought before they acknowledged it have been getting a free mid term oil service.

My Honda has 240k miles on it. I reckon one more MOT.

I’ll then give it to someone who needs a car but is short on cash.

I reckon if you can afford a new(er) car and the next MOT is a bit costly, then it’s time.

    Both as above.

Chillier, but great for hot summer rides.

Not quite as snug a fit.

I’ve done a few tris including Slateman, the year that the water was so cold they halved the swim distance!

A quick look on Huub shows two versions of the aegis 2. A standard, and a thermal for the colder tris such as Norseman.

If you are doing “normal” tris in the UK I’d say don’t need or want the argos 2 thermal.

A standard suit is what you want.

I use a Blue Seventy Sprint wetsuit which was about £110 a few years ago.

I’ve been looking for a while for similar. I need some that I can run at 100mm or 120mm on my ht for now, and then run at 140mm when I get a new FS frame later in the year.

But found nothing other than silly prices.

A deal will come along just after I cave in and spend 800 odd quid!

I’ve just bought an Alpkit long sleeve merino cycling Jersey.

Nice and long, with long arms and a loose-ish fit. Xl size I’m 6′ 4″ tall.

Only worn it once under waterproof. Works well. Really soft against the skin.

Has washed nicely, no shrinkage on a 30wash and line dry.

Will also use it as a base layer when walking.

The clearance for tyres is in the fork lower legs and is really about how high the bridge is.

    Changing travel doesn’t affect clearance.

Unless you think the tyre might hit the frame on bottom out.

If it’s similar to the kitchen I fitted a while back there are metal angle brackets that screw to the inside of the carcass not the hardboard, and they then use a fitting to hang the cupboard on the rail screwed to the wall.

Thanks fuzzywuzzy and edukator- that’s kind of where my head is at the moment- hang on as long as the current motors allow.

Not really had a look at the leaf. Would need to be a decent size to get elderly parents in with their luggage (when they come to stay with us as dad cant drive that far now), and also for the two grandkids and their associated gubbins- hence the SUV requirement (other factors too add in to this).

A question about swapping ICE for EV.

We still haven’t decided on a new car, following my “posh SUV” thread a couple of months ago.

I really would like an EV, the Mrs is not so sure. We live in rural mid Wales and have a 15 year old petrol Honda, owned from new, 240,000 miles, and an 11 year old diesel Astra.

Is now a good time to chop one in for an EV, paying a fairly premium price when all thoughts are that prices will drop over the next couple of years? or do we think there will be a scrappage type scheme in a couple of years which will provide for a bigger contribution towards an EV?

Both current cars are good and pass mots easily. The Honda will soon be too old to get breakdown cover on which seems to have a cut off at 16 years. Due to our rural location, and the fact that most of our journeys are 80 mile round trips we need that cover, so it is pressing to get rid of the Honda.

We also regularly do 300+ mile round trips to see my family. Sounds like an EV would be fine for most of our journeys and then have the 2nd car as an ICE for the longer trips.

But when would be a good time to buy? Or should I swap out the diesel now for a petrol and go for ev in a couple of years.

    I hate buying cars!
