I’ve got one of the T6 lights.

When charging the led on the charger is not lit. It then goes green when fully charged.

Other fancy lights I have show red when charging, green when done.

But it was cheap, and as long as it charges I’m not bothered.

I did have to replace the plug on the battery lead though, as it had intermittent connection when it was wobbled.

    5 :D

Big one in the lounge with all the usual things connected to it.

Small LCD in the kitchen, as we’ll watch news or something while cooking.

LED in the bedroom – the missis goes to bed before 9pm most nights, so dozes to that while I’m in the garage or out nightriding. Also has the news/weather/traffic on when we’re getting up in the morning. And I can listen to it while I’m having a dump in the en-suite

One in son’s room – he’s 22 so has Xbox and stuff up in the room we daren’t go in to.

One unused in a spare bedroom that’s waiting to get hooked up to the turbo trainer.

If it was just me I wouldn’t have any 8) When I was a bachelor boy with my own house I didn’t own one at all for many years. Mind you, radio was better in them days, and I was renovating so radio was perfect to listen to. Anyone remember Mark and Lard in Out on Blue Six, and Alan Parker – Urban Warrior?

I did it about 4 years ago on a Scott Ransom 6″ bike. It was actually quite easy, but also very enjoyable due to the remote feel.

Did it in early April so had lots of gear inc emergency bivvy bag etc, as weather can be unpredictable.

We rode the whole route in short sleeves as it was warm and sunny all the way, bar for a cool breeze when we stopped for food.

You could probably do it on a crosser with no real problems, but I only had the 1 bike, and it wasn’t a hindrance.

Had good service a couple of times, and I’ll buy more oakleys because of it.

The Mrs had some Square Wires, about 6 years old, been kicked around a fair bit, scratched lenses, bent frame, ear socks worn out, nose pads knackered. They retailed at £160.

Sent them off to Oakley for a quote, and they said I need to replace all of the above – i.e. need new glasses. That will be £40 sir. So a complete new set of of £160 shades for £40. Quite happy with that.

    Aerosol spray paint here.

You can use clear lacquer so overspray isn’t a problem.

Just degrease the bars properly, spray the bars and inside the grips, bang ’em on and you are sorted.

I have a Honda 4×4 that I’ve had from new, 8 yrs old, 145k miles, so I know it’s entire history and it’s had proper servicing. It’s starting to show it’s age!

Had an intermittent starting problem over the last 6 months. It will turn over but no sign of firing first thing in the morning, but only once in a while. When i finally get it going, sometimes after leaving it for a few hours it starts instantly, then runs perfectly.

The cure was simple and cheap. Absolutely soak the plug leads, HT caps, distributor cap with WD40. I do it once a month, or more if it’s been particularly wet, as a precaution, and it has been fine for 3 months now. I must have a “spark leak” somewhere due to age and mileage.

I did remove the distributor cap to give it a clean and sprayed it inside and out, on a day when it was having none of it, and it fired up perfectly straight away afterwards. I’ll be swapping leads and cap etc after my looming MOT.

It’s been fairly quiet bird wise here too so far. I reckon as the ground hasn’t been frozen up until now, they’ve been able to find enough food away from gardens.

We get a few of the usual suburban garden birds, plus buzzards and sparrowhaws circling.

Expect to see a bit more activity if the cold snap continues.

I guess you are talking SRAM double tap?

I really like how they work. Been using them for nearly a year, and so far no probs.

    Well speedy.

I did a 22:24 in a 5k race recently and was well happy, so you can proper puff yer chest out doing that on “just a run to the bank”.

I’ll be running to the bank tomorrow too, but it’s over 5 miles away and I’ll be taking the long way back. So that’ll be 2hrs in the cold :-)

I can report happiness with my Medusas.

Running them Tubeless. Need a bit less air in the front next time.

Not as draggy as my Swampthing/Minion combo, and ideal for woods and soft terrain, tho they were also fine on frozen grass, farm tracks and on the road.

You’ll be wanting one of these.

    Valve reducer

EDIT: oooh, Actually, just spotted the revised text saying that it’s now a split plastic reducer, which won’t seal. The old rubber ones, pictured certainly work.

Mind, for 49p you could risk a try. You LBS should have reducers too.

If you are using tubelss valves, you should get away wit the reducer on the inner rim (i.e the bit nearest the hub) to stop the valve wiggling, and the rubber “foot” on the valve will seal against the rim well.

Will be taking a pair of tubeless Medusas out later.

If I don’t report back tomorrow, they’re obviously crap and I’ll be in a ditch somewhere

I frequent that other place under another name 8)

MTB is different. Just sit, spin and smile on those draggy joining sections. And think how quick you’ll be when you get on your skinny tyred road bike.

EDIT: BTW, I run a SuperTacky Swampthing in Winter on the front of my 34lb full susser. Now that is draggy

As a kid I went to CP parties, but never caught it.

I stood in the doorway of a friends house aged 27, and their young son had it so I didn’t go in. Lo and behold I caught it.

4 weeks off work, really feel like dying, got them in my throat, ear, under eyelids and ahem everywhere. Took at least 6 months to feel like I had fully recovered, it really does wipe you out as an adult.

All things being equal, get your kids to catch it early, unless they have other health reasons not to.

You could get a 0% credit card and haggle with the shop, and come out cheaper, without the restrictions of the C2W.

Having said that, my first C2W ends in March, so I’ve no idea what I might have to pay.

I worked on about a 25% saving overall, with no hassles, which seems reasonable.

Gravity dropper 3 position lasted five years :D

Only needed a couple of new springs which where less than a fiver delivered from the States in a week, and fitted in 20 minutes.

Looks like one of the older ones, but should be good.

Gravity Dropper in the US will supply all the bits, really cheaply, and quickly, and will be able to give you service details too.

I did the one on my roadie bike in the normal way.

Push the solid pin all the way through, then the next one to it so you are left with an inner link at each end of the chain.

Mebbe just give it a “bit more”.

    Hope M4 or Shimano XT.

Hopes are totally serviceable too, Shimano are “fairly” serviceable.

    Magura are totally not serviceable.

Lights! Have them on and flashing in the daytime. A couple on the back is even better. You’ll be out in dim light, and drivers won’t see you.

    Bright clothing too.

Amazing to see so many black or grey clad riders with no lights on this time of year.

I got my bike fit done as part of a Planet X deal. As it was my first road bike and I had no clue, it really made all the difference.

My PX SL Pro Carbon is just so much fun to ride, and really comfortable. And I put a lot of that down to getting the fit right.

One thing about groupsets – I have Tiagra on my commuter, and SRAM Rival on my PX. I really like the double tap system of SRAM. Also Tiagra cables come out of the side of the lever, whereas the SRAM and the higher Shimano are routed along the bars under the handlebar tape. Much neater.

Have a nice morning Rotherham :D

Yeah I think that is a good idea. The bike shop I was in recently said once the bike was purchased they then would set the bike up (bike fit me) then. Is that the wrong way round maybe?

So long as the frame is the right size and shape, they can fit it to you by fiddling with stems, saddle position etc.

The Retul fit at Bike Science is much more scientific, and measures to millimetre precision. It really is an eye opener. And I was a big cynic.

On a road bike you’ll spend more time in a fixed position, whereas on the MTB you move around a bit more so while the fit is important, it’s a touch less critical.

I have a few injury issues, and since having the fit and getting the bike, I have had no bike related issues. I also got an alternative TT/Triathlon fit done, so I have the measurements to swap from road to TT/Tri easily.

I can’t recommend a proper Retul fit highly enough, especially if you have no roadie background.

Get a bike fit done, and base your choice on that. I used Bike Science, and bought a Planet X Pro Carbon.

Like you, I have MTB’d a bit, but road bikes were new territory.

The bike fit will ensure that you get in to the right position, or will mean you buy the right bike, and slowly adjust the position to your optimum over time.

Not cheap, but cheaper than buying the wrong bike.

    I’ve had a GD 3+1 for about 4 years.

Dead simple piece of kit. I replaced the springs in the release mechanism last year, as they had corroded after 3 years of all year Peaks riding. That cost me £5 delivered from US.

Otherwise no problems. A quick easy service (i.e. clean and oil) once a year, and all is well.

Great fast service from GD too.
