I run 23psi front, 25 rear, or thereabouts.

Your tyre should be deforming around stuff, that’s what gives you better traction and feel, and without tubes you get no snakebite punctures.

Bontrager tyres appear to have very thin sidewalls, but I’ve done a fair few miles on them in the past with no problems. Don’t expect Spesh to be any different :-)

Get one that you can fit rack and mudguards to, and put your stuff in panniers.

Makes a world of difference to comfort and sweatiness over that distance.

I do 25 mile each way commute once a week, half on road, half off road on farm tracks and bridleways on a Planet X Kaffenback with disc brakes, mudguards, rack and panniers.

Did I mention rack, panniers, mudguards?

Cheapest muesli, normally Holland and Barrett on offer, chopped banana on top, drizzle of honey if you want, and use orange juice not milk. Strawberries and blueberries etc also work nicely.

Cutting out the milk means you don’t get that claggy feeling in your throat.

Also, make porridge with water not milk, and stick some dried fruit of choice in while cooking it. And it won’t stick to the pan like it does with milk.

Is it specifically for cross racing? Or a bit more of a do it all?

For do it all maybe a Kaffenback with slot swapouts?

Got rid of my 2009 5, couldn’t get on with it at all, after nearly 3 years of tweaking and trying!

Got a Stumpy FSR Evo. Absolutely love it, from the first ride. Bought the ally frame from Bike Scene, and used existing parts and some new ones.

Saw it at Manchester just before Xmas.

Really good entertaining show, with plenty of mad stuff.

Not normally something I’d go for, but really enjoyed it.

Only Aquasphere Kayennes work for me out of about a dozen different ones tried.

    Kaimans are smaller than Kayenne.

I have a spare Air Cast boot and some crutches if you need them…

We have a set of crutches permanently stationed at home. They get lots of use between the three of us here

He is still alive this afternoon, so he must’ve listened to my warnings.

Thanks b r, I did google but only got the official lighting procedure, which is the link that you posted.

What I need is the ghetto version, where the piezo has been removed and I need to know which buttons to press and hold and where to stick a lighted match, whilst retaining a house around the AGA :-)

    Mine are the “Team” version.

I’ve also used Bonty Big Earl Wets (I think the XR4 replaced them) and they also had thin flimsy sidewalls. Never had a problem with them, always run tubeless with juice, and battered around the Peak District.

As I say, not had problems, but feel thin compared to Maxxis. Was just thinking about the tandem all up weight.

My hottub needs a new circulation pump, and I can’t get one delivered until Wednesday!

    Nightmare of the highest order.

My 2.2 XR4s come up pretty big, but they do have thin sidewalls. Not caused me a problem, but bear in mind. Also, they work best on a wider rim, but assume you have those for tandem duties. Set up tubeless nice and easy.

I’d be looking at High Rollers, either LUST, or maxxpro run tubeless. I’ve done both with no problems.

Minions are pretty good too as a midde of the road (err….?) tyre. Currently have a Maxxpro rear, non-tubeless, running it tubeless on the rear, and not in a hurry to remove it.

@ Onzadog – Paul who coaches at Long Eaton LC is very good. He uses the SwimSmooth stuff.

Moved me from a struggling 8:30/400m to easy repeatable 7:40/400m, now doing 2km open water with no worries.

    New bearings. Seriously.

I had the same on a brand new wheel. Rode it like that for ages. Checked the bearings and one had very slight play, barely noticeable, but at the wheel rim there was a bit of movement.

Finally got round to putting new bearings in last week and the play has gone.

I had a kebab in Aberyswyth on Saturday. Throat’s a bit sore, and my voice is a little hoarse.

Actually, I did have a kebab on Saturday night in Machynlleth. Lamb shish, but you never know.

And I have eaten horse in France, was very good!

I have eaten a number of other interesting meats too – zebra, crocodile, kangaroo, camel, various types of antelope, frogs legs…..does it really make much difference.

Probably better to have a good cut of horse in your kebab than the nipples and ring-pieces that class as meat in low cost sausages!

Shimano and SRAM front mechs have the same pull ratio, so you should be ok.

If it’s already fitted, give it a try :-)

Get a decent 121 coaching session.

I’ve been swimming front crawl for about 2 years, couldn’t manage a length before that.

Was stuck on 8:15 – 8:30 for 400m last year. Had a 121 video session with a good coach. Now I can do 7:30 – 7:40 per 400m for the same effort and repeat three or four times in the same session.

It’s ALL technique, and you need someone to tell you what you are doing, and how to correct your faults, and then work on them. Fix them one at a time. There’s too much going on to try to fix all faults at once.

Give your plug caps, leads and distributor cap a really good dowsing with WD40/GT85.

Occasionally my car won’t start in a morning, fine all day once it’s been started. All it takes is a good spray of WD and all is well for a month or more.

I now do it every couple of weeks as a matter of course, just so It will always start for the missis if she’s using it and I’m out.

Really should buy new leads and dizzy cap/rotor arm, as it’s on 160k miles, but a quick spray sorts it and is lots cheaper!

Solid as flip. Took 4 “big” bikes to Scotland, Wales etc no probs.

I’ve just got a new frame with a PF30 BB. It came with adapters that you screw the BB cups into then press into the frame with a headset press. No tube in between.

Seems a bit daft having the PF30 frame then using adapters!

However, when looking at options, before the frame arrived and realising that it canme with adapters, I spotted this…

Seems to have a threaded joining tube.

    It’s too personal.

I have a few different ones, and I just kinda got used to them all after a few rides.

SDG Bel Air (got a couple) and Charge Spoons (no experience) seem poular, but probably coz they can be had for cheap.

I also have a Scott something or other that came on a Ransom some years ago, and lives on my MTB. And a Cobb Max, and a Ritchey pro race raxzorblade type thing.

Don’t have any problems with any of them, although my rides tend to be 6 hours or less.

My missis feels much better and has lost weight by cutting out bread and dairy for the last 3-4 months. Something in it.

I’ve recently built up a wheel using an Octane One Orbital Pro rear hub. £42 from CRC.

Cartridge bearings, silent in use, can be used qr or bolted.

    Happy with it so far.
