On my regular-ish journey from AGV TO NWP I love the fact that there are still request stops further down the line for places like Sugar Loaf (SUG) 😎

Super icy this morning. Whelspinning up the road climbs, but lots of smashing through long deep icy puddles.

    Beautiful day.

My Volvo xc60 doesn’t do engine braking!

It has some fancy economy gizmo that let’s it keep rolling.

    So braking it is.

It has a hill descent button though for when it gets proper slippery.

Boa or ratchet on various shoes.

Dont really give either of them a second thought.

Boa on winter mtb boots are 5+ years old and no issues. Now watch that jinx this mornings ride!

I probably ought to do some training as I seem to have entered battle on the beach.

I probably won’t do much training and just bimble around in the GV class!

Oooh, I’ve been plagiarised by stablebarns! I feel dirty now 😱

Cougar – side elevation re obscure glass. We looked in to moving the door and putting a window there. Would have to be obscure glass. Might have been that house sat slightly higher than neighbour, and proximity, but them was the rules.

I think it’s something to do with not overlooking neighbours.

Stops you building a platform to peer over the fence.

Any windows on the side of a house needs to be obscure glass for example. Backdoor on a previous house of ours was on the side. Had to have obscure glass.

I dont run an amp to my tv, but when I was looking in to it I think i was told that all the devices plug in to the amp then a single hdmi from the amp feeds the tv.

I have 2 hdmi and power lead to the tv buried in the wall.

And yo can get really long hdmi leads, like 5+metres.

    I have an Alpkit one.

It’s got the cycling type 3 pockets on the back but I just use it for pretty much any outdoor activity

Really soft and washes and tumble dries nicely.

From memory it is something to do with High Frequency start tig welders, which are the commercial ones as they contaminate the electrode less.

The home/hobby tig welders use lift or scratch start which I think is less of a problem for pacemakers, but I dont know if they are zero problem.

Mig welding forum should have the answers.

Went for a week. Wouldn’t go back.

    Windy.

Locals on Boa Vista will hassle you and practically lock you in their shop until you buy something while standing menacing at the door.

Did stop off at a couple of friendly beach bars.

Bit of a featureless place, I did a few 10km runs to look around but it was a bit dull.

    And windy.

I have a really old Gravity dropper which is agricultural but bomb proof.

I’ve also had a Giant Contact Switch 150mm dropper for nearly 3 years, and that has been faultless.

Can be internal or external routed.

Lever can be fitted left or right.

    Was about 160 quid.

I would buy either of them again.

Go and watch a few local tris through the summer, just to see how it all works.

The chop in a pool swim can be alarming if you aren’t ready for it.

Get used to riding and running without socks. Or time yourself putting socks on as soon as you get out of the shower. The get used to riding and running without socks.

Tri suit is good but not essential, but again try pulling a jersey on when you are wet.

Get a race belt. It’s a belt that you fasten your number to. Number needs to be on the back for the bike and front for the run. Just spin the belt round in transition.

    PS its addictive.

Good luck with the recovery Mrs HTS.

Take it easy, and when you think you are ready to get back on the exercise…..give it another week.

    And do the exercises.

I’m 18 months in to a medial tear with no op option. Cycling is fine, running not.

    I like that idea marcmcq90.

Hope you get enough cable pull to activate the post.

OP – I have an old original Gravity Dropper that’s 27.2mm with a remote lever. Maybe try to hunt one down. There were a number of activating options.

I dont think that you need to use it on a gravel bike as much as on an mtb so under the seat would probably be fine.

Deffo remote on the mtb though as I use it lots.

I have read somewhere that a 12sp GX will work fine with my 11 speed NX. I was looking as the 11 speed will only go to 42T whereas the 12 speed GX will go to 50T and that’s where I want to get to.

4 generations staying at ours for 4 days!!!!

Both my parents in their 80s, I had to do a 300 mile round trip to fetch them today.

Me and the missis, son and his wife, and our two grandkids aged 7 and 2, plus their two dogs.

Already looks like someone lobbed a grenade in the lounge. Just me and the missis at home normally in a sea of calm and organisation so it’s a bit of a shock.

It’s hard work, and expensive as we pay for it all, but I’m not gonna moan about still having my mum and dad around as my wife’s are both no longer here.

Will be ready for a rest by the time I drive them back home on 27th, and then we are both off until 6th Jan.

My garage is fed from the house before the house CU. If a fault in the garage it doesn’t affect the house.

Starting with that would also isolate or eradicate your problem.

My practical but non sparky brain would disconnect at the house end, then put a temporary extension lead to the garage CU fed from a house socket. If it fails on load then that points to a fault in the garage. If not then it’s the garage feed.

Just shows how even a pro sparky dealing with something outside of their normal remit can miss something.

    I did what tillydog said.

Sparky was happy not to have to dig 40 metres of trench!

The workshop is on it’s own CU rather than fed from house CU. That way if there is a fault in the workshop the house is unaffected. That might be what footflaps was aiming at.

Ginger beer, or various flavours of squash, including err ginger.

Tonic water. Plain iced water maybe with a squeeze of lime or lemon.

    Lime and soda.

    Peppermint tea is nice too.

I’ve got paint that’s 10 years old, been kept in a detached garage with no temp control so -10 – +30 across the years.

    Still works ok!

Agree that unopened/lots left in tin/kept at steady temp is best.

If I was doing a full room I’d buy new, but keep part tins for touching up.

We bought criss cross crash for the grandkids in the summer, to keep at our house.

They absolutely love it and its suitable for even the 2 and a half year old as its self contained and battery powered.

Got so.e more track for christmas, but looking g for that simple clamp to the table loop the loop set that I loved as a kid. But cant seem to find one. Lots of powered or more complex ones but not just the simple clamp and loop.

    Anyone spotted one?

    That’s a decent width!

But yeah, the builder should have sorted that.

Couple of self tappers through the frame into the lintel should work.

Maybe some decent adhesive might work.

But the builder should do it properly.

I liked the old one after a demo ride.

Not bought a new bike yet and was too late to get one of the recent discounted ones. Might need another demo on the new model.

Counter intuitively, if you have a stuck bolt, you can often release it by tightening it slightly before immediately undoing it.

Sometimes you just need to break the grip, and if it wont go one way it might go the other then whip it out.

It does sound like Thompson’s gear is a bit suspect though!

Was great to meet you both @stwhannah and a pleasure to show you around.

Glad you both enjoyed the cycle museum. It really is bike nerd heaven.
