    DOGS!

Noisy, shite everywhere, make your house smell.

    Why do people do it?

Are you using just one chaintug?

Maybe worth trying one each side?

    Good work Tim.

Running is addictive, no faff and no bike cleaning, and no huge expense…..

I’m laid up with a stress fracture though, so do take it easy and build mileage slow. Off road is better too, I think my stress fracture came about by increasing mileage and all on road coz the fields have just been so boggy around Belper and Ambergate.

Do a few core exercises for your back, and stand tall when running.

I’m older than you (and started running 3 years ago following an elbow op that kept me off the bike) and got down to a 45 min 10k and 21 min 5k within a couple of years. You’ll be flying if you keep at it :-)

    Nice that.

Yeah, makes me wanna go out and ride….but I’ve already been out today, and I’ve just booked a day off tomorrow to go riding!

Mary Hinge – that looks great!
I’d be interested in hearing about the green roof. My next project might feature one. I bet those doors were expensive!

    Cheers :D

    Green Roof[/url]

I made the doors myself. Some planed tannalised timber, mortice and tenon the corners, rebate cut with table saw and router. Ripped the glazing strips down with table saw. Glazed with 4mm polycarb from Screwfix, it’s actually not wobbly/bendy as it is fairly narrow for it’s length. I used standard sized glazing to avoid cutting, and got lucky with the spacing as it suited the aperture.

I tried to get some patio doors but they all worked out too expensive. Also I can open all 4 doors to fully open up the space, which I wouldn’t be able to do with sliders.

Plenty still to do to finish off the inside (insulation and boarding etc.), and hopefully the green roof will go on May/June.

It’s good fun this building lark, but can be time consuming and expensive, but look at what you will have at the end. Didn’t help that my missis kept changing the scope every time I got to the next stage, so I have to improvise as I go along.

Blimey, some serious planning and drawing there! We are expecting some progress pictures on a “rate my shed build” thread.

I’m part way through building a “shed” and I just did it with timber, no drawings, directed by the ever changing requirements from the missis.

It was going to be a pergola, but then she wanted a roof, then she wanted a green living roof, then she wanted doors, then she wanted full length glass doors, and power and lighting……..

And yes, the costs mount up.

    Progress so far……

Good work, nice and neat, order out of chaos.

Did Mrs Stuartie_c think that you were a little odd taking a thousand pictures of a half built cupboard to show to a load of old blokes that you’ve never met?

Tri suit, straight on to bike. If it’s very cold then put something on in T1.

If you are only doing this one, then don’t worry about transition times too much and put a warm top on.

You can’t race bare chested once out of the pool, so you’ll need to put a top on.

Yep, a couple of times in my wife’s Square Wires.

The second time, they replaced the lenses, all of the rubber ear and nose bits, and the frames. For the princely sum of £46, for shades that cost £160 new.

A few years ago it would have been british motorbikes from 1955 – 1980-ish.

I also used to know a bit about screw threads and engineeringy type things.

I’m old, so I can’t remember anything about anything these days!

I’m hanging my nose over a Pipedream Skookum.

Will be trying to find one to have a ride on over the next couple of months.

Tubeless Ready tyres will require sealant. Which is straightforward.

Everything else is …..errr….straightforward, especially if you have run tubeless before.

My GD is over 5 years old. Only needed to replace the small slider springs after 4 years. I spray it with a bit of lube from time to time, and strip cleaned it only once.

    It’s the 3″ + 1″ drop version with remote.

Mechanical simplicity. Not the prettiest or slickest, but for me it’s solid and reliable.

    Like.

I’m a tall lad, and will be building up a HT over the summer (scouting for bargains) to use for local winter rides.

This has risen to the top of the list :-)

Pendle. Bracket bolts behind the towball and the rack slots in.

Super stable, a bit industrial, but strong as. Bit spendy.

Mines had 4 heavy DH bikes on for 500+ mile trips and I have total confidence in it.

Some of those that clamp to the ball can move around a bit.

    Bargain too! Nice one.

I’d have one if they did them in man sizes ;-)

Compare your old tubes to see if the punctures are in the same place. If so, then it’s something sticking in it, either rim or foreign object in the tyre.

Aligning tyre labels to valves etc sounds anal but it can help in showing where a puncturing object may be in the tyre.

From your description of 2-3mm, I’d suspect pinch flats, especially if you are using a hand pump. They will be generally on the inside edge of the tube, in line with the rim.

I run 35mm Marathon Greenguards at max pressure of 85 psi on my commuter. 25 miles each way on/off road, fully laden with panniers etc, and not a puncture in sight. Previously used Michelin Tracker, same result, but eventually split the tyre after 3 years abuse.

Marathons are tough, a bit slow and lifeless in 35mm flavour.

But as above, get some pressure in there on your current tyres!

    Bummer!

Check your house insurance though. Mine includes bikes if they are on the premises i.e. in the garage, at no extra cost. Extra cost for cover over £1500 when off the premises.

Still injured with stress fractured tibia :-(

Been sat around a lot, had 6 month old grand daughter all day yesterday, had plans to weed the front garden in the sun this morning but no sun and it’s freezing.

Crap weekend! Will be able to get on the turbo this week (woo bloody hoo!)

Hopefully back on the road bike next week and MTB week after for some gentle rehab and getting back up to fitness in time for summer.

My triathlon season has not got off to a great start this year :-(

I’d like any one of my MTBs to be under 30lb. FS is around 33lb.

All XL frames, with Gravity Dropper and built a bit more on the strong side as I’d sooner carry a bit of weight than keep replacing broken stuff.

I too think that you have done well getting it down to that weight.

I’d love to have a ride on a proper lightweight bike just to compare.

@Trail Rat – thanks for reminding me…..one of this weekend’s jobs is painting the home office :-(

Did the ceiling last weekend, walls filled and flatted during the week, a tin of “toasted almond” lurking in the utility room, giving a light cough in my direction every time I pass.

    My life is ebbing away.

I’m off to mop the kitchen/utility/hall floors now, to take my mind off painting!

Remove the cable entry bung and spray looooads of TF2/GT85 in there, and operate the lever a few times.

Always worth oiling the cable or fitting a new one (oiled before assembly) even if your current one has only been on 3 months, it’s been a damp old winter.

Also check cable routing for tight bends etc.

EDIT and it might start out as a soul destroying job, but think how nice it will be to have slick gears again, and how proud you’ll be that you sorted it yourself.

Well your missis is a big soft girlie! ;-)

I’ve done trailside chain splits with my Crank Bros 19 multi tool, no problems. TBH it’s the only bit of CB kit that actually works and lasts!

You need to give her some exercises to strengthen her grip ;-)

Oooh double post, might take the opportunity to post something complementary….

Nice bike dude. Wish I could afford to build a 2nd bike. It will be a hardtail singlespeed ready for next winter, I have brakes, crankset and rear hub.

    Will post up photos soon.

Might sneak out for a gentle ride up Wyver, down Longwalls and up the Chevin in the morning while the missis isn’t looking.

Time ATACs here. Some might be ROC or whatever, at the cheaper end of the model range, on 3 bikes.

No maintenance, last as long as Shimano, clear mud like EggBeaters.

They’ll know what they are capable of when they see the trails.

Plenty of less gnar quality xc around there including away from the trail centres.

Went to collect 2 new bikes from bike shop 20 miles away. Key to roof mounted cycle carriers on the other set of car keys!

I walk to the baths each morning for my swim, about a mile or so. One morning I dropped the wife at the station and drove to the baths. Then walked home thinking ” why do I have the car keys in my pocket, I never take them with to the baths…..”. I realised when I turned the corner to the house :-)

    Sounds like it’s fubarred.

Buy one of the cheapo ones from CRC.

Shimano don’t do spares for repairs.

Unless it’s under guarantee of course, then take it back.

I’m taking the family in June. Just about to pay the final balance of a few grand!

    Should I?

The missus says yes, but she just wants a holiday.
