I got one of the EVO Expert frames from Bikescene. 2011 model I think.

    It’s amazeballs 🙂

Couldn’t get on with an Orange 5, getting on really well with the Stumpy.

Oh yeah, should have added that i also take a full change of riding gear i.e. lycra shorts, jersey/baselayer etc dependent on season and weather.

    And reading glasses too.

I ride 25 miles each way in all weathers a couple of times a week.

If I have meetings away, once per month overnighters for example, and they are within 60 miles, I’ll cycle there and back too 🙂

I missed the commute challenges so need to check them out.

The rest of the time I work at home, so my commute is then a shuffle across the landing in me jim-jams!

    Panniers FTW!

I carry all the usual tools and tubes in a seat pack. Frame mounted pump.

Full set of clothes inc shoes. Shower gel, towel.

Laptop and charger, works phone, personal phone. Water bottle(s) as it’s 25 miles each way.

We have non-allocated desks, and I work at home 3 days per week, so don’t have any storage at work. Hence I carry the full shebang.

Am working on bagging a bit of filing space for stuff like towel, shower gel, shoes to save a bit of weight.

Oh, and leave a lock on the racks. It’s not bagsying, just lock bike to available rack, so the lock moves around a bit.

I had one for a couple of years and just didn’t get on with it. I stuck with it to try to like it but no.

And for £2,400 it had a £10 open ball headset and the cheapest chainset available, so VFM was poor.

    Thanks all.

Gone for DT Comps from Rose Bikes as they had the best fit in terms of sizes, quantity, price etc.

Olympic distance triathlon on Sunday. A hard mornings work in very windy conditions.

Tough swim, even the fast lads were 8 minutes slower over the mile compared to last year.

    Beat last years bike time.

Beat last years run time despite losing 9 weeks of run training this year due to injury.

Fell asleep on the sofa Sunday afternoon watching the London bike race.

Nice video and well done on the ride. Makes me want to get out on the MTB.

I can no longer call my 6 hour Peaks rides “epic” 😥

    That’s a nice tricky one.

Can you get to it from the “other side”? Take the side cover off and drill from inside the engine compartment?

EDIT; And I’ve never had a screw extractor work! If the bolt is stuck enough for it to shear when undoing it, a screw extractor will just snap off in the hole, making it worse!

You try a screw extractor if you can get a drill in to it and use lots of heat i.e. oxy acetaline rather than a blow lamp. But you did say that you can’t get access to it with a drill.

Failing that, you may need to strip the lot down. The factory would need to be able to get the thread in there somehow before the engine was built up. Major faff for a small bolt though eh!

I’ve put some flat bars and MTB shifters and Avid levers on our Gert’s Cannondale Synapse to give her a more upright position. I think that’s a hybrid position now.

She has a neck injury so struggles to “look up”.

Works a treat. Total cost with a bit of shopping around was under £50.

Thanks GTTH, will have a browse for the Aerotracks, and see what price I can find….it is only for my commuter after all!

Aaaah…..only 32h, and I need to use this 36h Hope rear hub. Could have gone nuts with the colours though to complement my aesthetic preferences 😈

Looks like I’ll be going for Open Pro or Sport, depends which ones I can get the best price on 🙂

    Cheers for all the suggestions.

Silly question but is it definitely the 28mm Conti 4 season you are running?

They also come in 23 and 25 which would be too narrow for your rim and might cause pinch flats.

Just checked, deffo 28mm. A number of roadie type sites do say they come out small though.

@ Dibbs – will pull the tyres off again and check rim tape allignment. I have just checked one of Tuesdays tubes and it does have 2 inline cuts on the inside edge, so that is in proper snakebite territory.

Wait a sec – Opens are not designed for discs, are they?

I’ve never thought it matters. Seems there are one or two rims out there that simply don’t have a machined braking surface and no other difference that sets them out as disc specific.

    MaryHinge

Just pulled them apart to re-fit my Schwalbes for now.

Deffo pinching. Slit in the tube in line with the rim.

The fact that I’ve had front and rear suggests not a rougue spoke or burr on the rim, and the rears have been in different places. But will check again as I’d ruled that out so not checked.

Tubes are a variety of brands, the last two were 25/32mm and 28/32mm. I had to limp to the Triathlon shop in Nottm to get an emergency tube to make sure I got home on Tuesday. They only had race ones at £9 each! When i had to fit it 5 miles from home it seemed the best £9 I’d ever spent. At least that is now a spare for the tri bike.

As I said, same rims with bigger tyres and no punctures in the last couple of years (except for when a sidewall ripped on an old tyre, but that was another story).

And yep, I remember distinctly hitting that stone and the resultant sinking feeling.

I do batter over stuff, fully laden, but it just seems to be this tyre/rim combo. Didn’t suffer with the previous tyres until they perished with age and split the sidewalls!

Hmmmmm……I could try some (more) different tyres I guess. Keep the GP4Ss for winter road training use.

    Maybe a 28 or 32? Any suggestions?

@ir-bandito – this is all your fault anyway! Recommending GP4S on some other thread 😉

TBF, they haven’t suffered and wear or penetration punctures, just pinch flats.

What PSI are you running them at? I’ve got the same setup: 28mm 4 season on 19mm rims (Mavic CrossRide Disc 29er) and I’ve never had a puncture or pinch flat (touch wood). I run mine at 95psi.

100-110 psi I’m 13 1/2 stone and panniers add 9-10kg on the back.

3 pinch flats on Tuesday, two rear one front. I knew the front was doomed when I hit a stone washed onto the cycle track and fired it into the hedge, Sure enough 100yds later….

The other two on that day were rears. One I didn’t even recall hitting anything and was on a smooth stretch of tarmac.

@NedRapier – I’ve spied some silver Open Pros at Halfords online for £32 a go 😆 Could build them with black spokes and chrome nipples. Oh, and my hubs are different brands and colours too 😉

Forgot to mention I’m running disc brakes, so rim wear not an issue, braking surface optional 🙂

Open Pros sound like the way to go then, cheers 🙂

@NedRapier – “aesthetic preferences”! Black Kaff frame, brown forks running discs but have canti stubs still on, parts bin groupset, rack, panniers, guards, one black plastic bottle cage, one red and white GRP bottle cage, 40mm spacers under the stem…..

    please explain “aesthetic preferences” 😆

Thank you gentlemen, system restore seems to have done the trick.

Will have a peek into add/remove programs now too.

Not sure where to find browser extensions, but I’ll have a google.

Will see if I can find real player too.

Cheers, will try to do a restore.

@scaredypants – some words within posts are turned in to hyperlinks, when you hover over them a mini ad pops up and then clicking takes you to somewhere, but I’ve avoided clicking.

I think it came down with a Youtube Downloader program. I’m using Handbrake to convert from AVI to MP4.

    Cheers 🙂

    EDIT: and yes, Windows.

A pair of Conti GP4 Seasons in 28mm which will hopefully pep up my commuter a bit

    MaryHinge

I’ve tried it with 3 chains. I’m not convinced that it makes much difference.

I now use one chain and run the drivetrain into the ground.

I do clean and lube things fairly well and fairly regularly though.

Thinking of putting some 28mm Conti GP4 seasons on (as they are on offer)
    where are they on offer?

I emailed Cycle Surgery <enquiries@cyclesurgery.com> this morning to have a gentle moan about the 28mm not being available at £26.99.

A guy called Andy emailed back pretty swiftly. Said he has some in stock and he’d call me if I gave him my number.

Job done. A pair of 28s on their way to me at £26.99 each.

I’ll keep my eye out for some 28s.

The Marathon 35mm that I have are around 800g! I think I might notice the difference.

Bah! Cycle Surgery – but the 28s are now out of stock. Only got the email Monday but was working away. 23 and 25mm are £26.99, the 28s were too, plus TopCashBack.

Seeing as you have them on your TiCross, are they tough enough for on/off road?

I have a set of 23s on my roadie and they are good so far.

PlanetX Kaffenback. Used for comuting, in this pic a 60km commute over the Peak District to Sheffield.

Running 35mm Marathon GreenGuard tyres, which are heavy and slightly too big for the frame, so I had to cut down my rear mudguard. However, they are proving super tough which is what I need for my 50/50 on/off road commutes. Thinking of putting some 28mm Conti GP4 seasons on (as they are on offer) to speed it up a bit when not loaded. But the big tyres give a bit of confidence when loaded up.

I use ZoomBrowserEX on my laptop.

It came with a Canon camera a while back, but you can download it for free.

You need to move your pics from your iphone and save them into a folder on your pc. Then you should be able to edit them as normal.

Mine started sliding backwards at age 18. Had hair to my waist before then.

Gave it a No1 with the clippers when I was 23. Been doing it ever since and have the perfect male pattern baldness.

Just realised I’ve been a slaphead for more than half my life now.

Wouldn’t go back. So much quicker and easier.

Hat in summer, hat in winter though.

Grippy front, hard wearing on the rear.

Currently trying to stop being a tyre tart and just bloody ride! Trying to wear out every tyre I own before purchasing any new ones.

Yes, in the middle of the rear mech cage there is a small tab that is easy to miss. If you put the chain in front of the tab it will rub on it. Put the chain to the rear of the tab.

    I’m getting close to 50 now 😕

Pushing harder and doing more swim/bike/run miles than ever. Always trying to beat last years race results.

I don’t think about it. I didn’t do any exercise until I was 40, was active, but not sporty. Only really got into sporty stuff around 44yo.
