@ Andy R – if you already have a double fitted, why bother taking it off to go 1×10?

    Fashion?

I’d run it like that until it all wears out! ‘swhat I’m doing with my triples 🙂

I tried 28mm Contis on Mavic A119s and got loads of flats. Went back to 35s and no problem.

You might get lucky, but I would doubt it.

If you have some lying around why not just give it a go?

    Mine’s great.

SRAM rival. I like the “positive” feel of SRAM. I also like the silky smoothness of Shimano. They both work well. I do like the double tap of SRAM though.

Had it nearly 3 years, not changed anything on it (except new tyres), nothing has worn or broken. It’s had plenty of use in the Peak District and triathlons.

Hopes are pretty solid in my experience.

I bought an Octane One on sale at CRC last year to build my first set of wheels. They’ve had a year of being abused on my on/off road commute. The rear hub has been faultless, and very quiet 🙂

I don’t think my Pro Carbon has mudguard eyelets, so you are probably limited to Race Blades.

The adapters are exactly that. They give you a conventional BB thread..

Whack them out gently! Screw in your bb cups and press the assemblies in with a headset press or similar.

My Tiagra geared commuter is the same, but my similarly equipped winter roadie is a bit more precise and the shifting just feels lighter.

I think it is due to the commuter being hammered on bridle ways and not cleaned often whereas my roadie gets less mud (ie none) and a bit more care.

I just live with it and as you say “feel” the gears in on changing to larger rear cogs.

Maybe more frequent and better cleaning and lubing will sort it.

    Nice one Rogerthecat.

Signing up now as a Belper non-PDNP resident. But I regularly cycle in to the park.

I’ll be starting it on crutches after knackering my foot in a 5k race yesterday. Great start to my 2014 outlaw triathlon training!

Oh, training for the Outlaw 2014 of course.

Just wrap a few layers of electrical tape around the rim to cover the spoke holes. Stick your HRs on with some sealant and blow ’em up (easiest with a compressor) and you’ll be good to go

EDIT oh you’ll need tubeless valves of course,

My mum is in her mid 70s and although I do have to fix the odd issue, she sounds pretty sorted compared to some of the above.

I do get phone calls at 11pm sometimes though,

Wait ’til you’re my age! Will be 50 soon enough.

I have to do lots of core and stretching and stuff. 3-4 sessions per week of at least 45 minutes.

    It’s the only way.

So you are using an X7 front mech with an X7 front shifter on a triple chainset?

I think it will be fine. Just get your high and low stops set, and set the middle setting to the middle ring. The two outer rings should then be governed by the stops.

And you suggest a 20 tooth range, and I think MTB mechs can handle 22 teeth. (22-32-44 normally). Sounds like you have one of those CX chainsets.

In my latest experiment I noticed that a Deore 9 speed front mech didn’t get the full triple coverage when used with road STI shifters. A Tiagra road front mech worked fine. I ended up with Tiagra road STI shifter on a Deore MTB front mech, on a road double chainset. Works a treat.

That’s why I never have pets. Too upsetting when they get ill or die.

And I don’t like dog breeders. Plenty of good dogs that need re-homing for free without paying someone ridiculous money for an inbred pedigree.

    Not nice for you TAFKASTR.

    I have a 25 mile each way commute on 50% road 50% farm tracks/bridle ways/towpath/cycle lanes.

Marathon Greenguard in 35mm here. They are dog slow and heavy. BUT they are tough as old boots. I’d sooner lug them around than stop to fix punctures.

Tried other tyres and got punctures almost every ride.

Michelin Tracker were fairly good before them, and were very cheap.

Giddy Edge above Matlock Bath had me squeaking one hung over Boxing Day. It’s a walking path only, and is one way for a very good reason!

    Golfers elbow?

I had Tennis elbow (lateral)release surgery 4+ years ago. 3 weeks of doing absolutely nothing with that arm. Then 3 months of thinking it was a waste of time as it was still useless and painful.

Then 3 months of it slowly improving to the point where I now dont have any symptoms, other than if I’ve done something stoopid to aggravate it.

I started running after a couple of months just to hang on to some fitness. No riding for 6 months.

Worth it in the end, but it wasn’t a pleasant time. At least you should be fit by summer.

And it’s a lot better than the 4 years of pain and sleepless night and dropped cups and plates and not being able to fix anything and …….

    Good luck.

    I’ve done a fair bit.

Built huge garage from scratch including making roof trusses on site. Moved interior and exterior doors. Upstairs floors out, moved stairs, new floor in. All electrics. Don’t touch gas! Removed lounge window and opened up and fitted French doors including new lintel etc.

Mostly done single handed, with occasional help from my dad and my wife (she mixed 6 tons of concrete for the conservatory base one Saturday morning!)

All in the days before Internet so no online tutorials.

Mostly it’s just looking and sussing stuff out. Use the Internet. Ask for advice. Push fit plumbing is real easy, copper isn’t that hard to do.

If you are reasonably handy you’ll be fine.

Take photos of your projects and post on here.

And use a sharp saw. A blunt saw just wont cut straight.

    Piece of cake.

I built my first set using a frame and fork as jigs. Still going strong on the battered commuter over a year later.

2nd set I built a jig first then built some open pros with dt spokes and hope hubs.

Three nights in a nice hotel with spa in the Lake District.

No bikes mind, but plenty of brownie points.

She has had her eye on a flying jacket from the sheepskin shop in Ambleside for a while, so I’m sure that will feature too

Sounds like the ITB I had.

Got a referral to NHS physio from GP. They are in the same building so I was in within a week.

Had ITB massage – very painful – was chatting to the physio at the start, then a few minutes in she said “you’ve gone very quiet” with a knowing wink.

I now use a hard foam roller 2-3 times per week and all is fixed and good. i.e. did half marathon pb at the weekend and had no pain (actually no pain from any of my many previous injuries).

30mm alloy rims, 9/10 speed rear.

With brand new Vittoria tyres and tubes.

Flew to Warsaw some years ago on a Sunday night to do a presentation to the Polish agriculture minister on the Monday morning.

Lufthansa had kindly sent my bags to Frankfurt, so I did the presentation in jeans, para boots and a t-shirt with some of the in-flight food and drink on it 🙂

Will be 4 generations at our house this Xmas, so “traditional” turkey it is.

We would normally have beef fillet too, but none of the others like it rare, and it’d be a criminal waste to overcook it!

Orange 5. Dreadful thing. Felt like sitting on a fence panel trying to balance. Kept it for nearly 3 years trying various combinations of forks, stems, tyres, etc. Never felt good.

    Will set the sky+

I don’t get to hear blues that often these days as no-one else in the house is a fan.

There are only two of us in the house. As the other half is the female of the two of us, the control clearly rests in her hands!
