Do you know, I was only wondering the other day where MTG had gone. Welcome back fella.

Jeebus you lot. What are you like!

I keep telling my partner of nearly 30 years that we should get married as she will get a better slice of my pension when I’m dead.

She keeps telling me to f-off and she doesn’t want to get married.

Neither do I for that matter.

But my pension rules say that if we are married she will get half when I die, a quarter if we aren’t married.

One knee, ask dads permission, romance…….FFS!

Slap bang in the middle of Wales here.

I have bikes that fit my 6’4″ self available. And great local trails.

    And a spare room.

Could hook up with a couple of local shops and clubs too.

We have a Chilli Penguin stove. Multi fuel and very controllable. Made in Wales.

We also have a large Waterford wood only which needs to be burning hard all the time so gets through loads of fuel. Less impressed with that one, but it was in the house when we moved in.

No help re installers in your area as I’m in Wales but check out the CP stoves.

Ive put SRAM NX 1×11 on my new HT build.

Works really nicely with superstar N/W oval 32T chainring and shimano 11-42 cassette.

No chain device needed but I’m not a full on hooligan.

I used the race face bolt spaces as they were similar price to shorter bolts and look a bit neater as the match up with the spider ends nicely.

Every now and again when thinking about suspension travel I get a ruler out and look at the difference between 120mm 130mm and 140mm.

It’s not a lot really! So I think it’s a lot more about geo and how the travel is delivered.

I am now on a 100mm hardtail after years of 150/160mm full suss bikes. The terrain I now ride is a little tamer due to moving to a different area, but I still ride and enjoy bigger days on the HT.

I will be getting a new full suss at some point as I have a dodgy back and the rear bounce helps on longer rocky days, but I will be looking at the shorter travel but still slack bikes, but wouldn’t avoid 140/150mm either.

Long way of saying that it’s more about the package than the travel.

Mine hung around for years in both elbows. Needed two hands to drink a cup of tea.

Had the release operation in the end and been pretty good ever since.

    It’s a ridiculous condition really!

Minions are always a good standard. Also a Butcher on the front works for me.

    Tougher casing recommended.

    Tubeless with sealant. Low pressures.

I’ll be marshalling somewhere on the course.

    What wilburt said.

We got a second car a few months ago. Rang round for quotes. It was cheaper by a lot if I started the insurance 3 days later rather than on the same day.

I asked why, they said it shows that you are more organised and therefore less risky!

    Orange Clockwork 100.

    Very “normal”.

I just built one up and it is very normal in a good way. And I’m used to 6″ 26er slack-ish full suss.

I’ve just put together a Clockwork 100 29er. Think the frame might be the same.

    First hardtail for years.

Really impressed. It’s built for shorter 2 hour ish local rides. Lots of big climbs, moorland, woods, but nothing rockiest techs. Is a really nice ride and perfect for the job.

Would expect the 120 to be similar.

Think Ive got the same one as Stoner.

Had it two years from new. Got fed up of looking at crap 2nd hand ones.

    It’s been spot on.

We have more lawn rather than field though and collect rather than mulch.

OP – local farmer to let his sheep in for a few days?

    Oh…..err…..I just built up a 29er HT.

Running at my usual 19 psi front 22 psi rear.

Only one ride in so far and no problems.

Butcher front, minion dhf rear Both 2.3. 83kg, superstar 25mm rims.

    Stumpy Evo here.

I used the plastic inserts that came with the frame with standard BB cups.

Lasted about the same as any other BB in the Peak District!

Changed to Enduro bearings and they have certainly lasted longer but I’m no longer in the Peak and the grit here is less harsh.

No noise or creaks or any problems at all.

    Kinesis DC37.

Had some for about 4 years on my winter bike. Has mudguards so has the hole for the light etc.

Wrightyson – yeah, had a tub at the last house in Belper. Was swa with rotary isolator etc. All fitted by myself but it was a straight easy short cable run. This ones a bit longer so got more to consider.

Been in Wales a couple of years without a tub. The Mrs has a neck injury and the tub helps, and we have proper big dark skies, so missing it now, hence the purchase

Thanks for the replies all, especially Rich for the detailed explanation.

I can get pricing up cable and mcbs/CUs now, will get a local guy in I reckon to confirm that he is happy and get him to do the connections.

Aye, they did a custom battery for my hybrid light recently.

Super quick, and it’s a lovely little thing which runs my light for ages.

I’m up the road between Builth and Llandrindod. Not got round to getting down there yet.

Ambrose – I’ll PM you my email if you would be so kind as to share the GPXs with me too :-)

When it dries out a bit, we ought to get a STW Wales pootle together.

Had one removed from my left shoulder/back.

A few years later I got another one pretty close to the first. Had that out too. Both done by appointment at the GP surgery. Local anaesthetic, no problems.

About 10 years on I think another is just starting to show nearby.

Just a bit unsightly on my otherwise beach ready body ;-)

Gravity dropper. Mine is 7 + years old and I’ve only stripped it once for a clean, and that includes years of Peaks rides every weekend

I have just bought a Giant one for my new HT but not ridden yet, so will report back in a couple of months.

I run it the other way around on my winter road bike.

Mtb front and rear mechs with road shifters.

    So it should work.

My stumpy Evo frame came with some plastic adapters to convert to standard BB. So I’ve just been using shimano cups with enduro bearings and race face evolve cranks.

    Seems to work fine.

It didn’t like being unused for about a year during a house move, so that’s when I put the enduro bearings in. They’ve sat for a couple of months at a time with no problems.

I really must ride my mtb more!

    @ matt_0utandabout – re tyre size.

Just building up an Orange Clockwork 29er.

I put a 2.3 Minion DHF on a 25mm rim in the rear. Fits just right. Wouldn’t want to go any bigger, but then it’s a “normal” bike, not designed for plus size etc.

About the same size as a Solaris I think, the Orange Clockwork looks tidy.

Looks nice in a very simple uncluttered way.
