I recently built up a new hardtail after many years on fs. The fs has Hope tech m4s both ends with 180 front 160 rear rotors.

After much deliberation I put some new tech x2s on the HT with the same size rotors. To be honest I can’t tell much difference in stopping power. I’m no dh hero though, so I suspect the m4s might have a bit in reserve on longer descents, but I’m happy as Larry with my x2s

Yup. Stop the logs rolling around on the floor and having to put yer foot on it to stop it moving.

I made one out of 4 lengths of 3×2. 2 x About 18 inches long, parallel about 10 inches apart, wide enough for the log to sit on and not move, but not so wide that the logs sit on the floor between them and rolls around.

Then screw the other two bits of 3×2 screw on as cross members. Flip it over and get cracking. Or chainsawing.

Just saw them in half half way through, turn it over and finish off.

As the jig is made of scrap don’t worry about the odd little chain Nick.

Ive got the Titan one, it really is a beast.

Not used lots as my normal cordless hammer drill does ok on brickwork for rawlplugs etc

But when I need to get something into the stone wall parts of the house there is no competition.

It does blow dust around a lot, and it is a lump, but there are some jobs that I couldn’t have done without it.

And I just used some DeWalt xlr sds+ bits in it. They have a cross tct point rather than the conventional dagger point. What a combination that is.

Mid Powys here. Stuck my head out of the door around midnight just before wobbling up to bed (hic).

Saw two within two minutes and a satellite. Super clear skies.

No dishing tool needed. Ijust flip the wheel over in the jig or the frame.

The pointer thingy that you run up against the rim while truing-just leave that there. When you flip the wheel you just want the pointer to be the same distance from the rim.

I use one of those little red straws that you get with wd40 as a pointer as it will bend and not scratch the rim, tape it to the jig/frame.

“The art of the possible” happens round here a bit.

“Who’s holding the ring on this”

We are also doing digital transformation. A few of us got an iPhone! Locked down so much that you can’t transfer photos onto a laptop via a cable. Have to email them to yourself!

    I shit ye not.

Ive had some Kimesis dc37 forks on my winter/spare/commuter/cx bike for over 4 years.

    Been faultless.

I picked up some Zipps recently, 60 front 82 rear. They just spin forever with the bike in the work stand. I was excited and looking forward to riding like a god.

It was harder, I was slower. (Hilly TT)

I persevered and somehow seemed to get better after a few rides, and now I use them as my main road wheels too. So yeah, you might just need to stick with it and work it out for yourself. I don’t know what I changed TBH, but something clicked.

I felt a difference above 22mph to start with, but round here it’s not possible to hold that speed for long.

Having said that, I was on PX 30mm alloys before, so a much bigger difference than just swapping an 82 rear for a disc.

Try a new inner cable. My NX inner was bent inside the shifter so wouldn’t shift properly.

New inner sorted it straight away.

    Great shifting performance now.

Mountain road from Machynlleth to Llanidloes, there’s a great viewpoint with a slate map of the Snowden peaks, then to Rhayader for lunch at Ty Morgan’s.

Then the mountain road from Rhayader to Aberystwith, could stop off at Devils Bridge.. Or a lap of the Elan Vally is pretty cool from Rhayader.

I’m currently in the early stages planning flying to Malaga, cycling to Faro, flying home, next year.

Will be an easy route as my less fit better half will be with me.

Sure you could work something similar out and make it longer or harder or more iconic.

Still entries available for IM Wales.

What app should I be using to track/identify these? Love it when they come over.

We live on the edge of Brecon Beacons so regularly get seriously low fly bys. Had about 4 came over around midnight last night which is unusual but it was midsummer night.

Would like to know what they are.

Finished work at 16:00 yesterday, then knocked out a 70 mile road ride with 1800m of ascent around the Brecon Beacons.

Home before it was dark, hot tub, barbecued lamb steaks for recovery food.

Was riding too fast to take photos

Yep, I’ve had that a few times this week.

I just kept turning my phone off until it cleared. Not had it since Tuesday.

    Not exactly helpful am I?

And don’t forget the Holgates Ice Cream shop at Tywyn after you’ve been to the beach at Aberdyfi, or indeed after you’ve been up Cadair. Or both.

Wynnstay hotel is nice for a beer, and they have a great Pizzeria too.

A mate has very flat feet/no arches, his feet look like chimps feet! He too gets blisters on his arches, which I’d never heard of, but his lack of arch explains it.

Two pairs of socks or Vaseline the affected area. They will toughen up over time.

I had the same issue recently.

I did the update with the garmin connected by a data transfer cable to my laptop, via express. Worked a treat and no need for sd card.

    Depends what’s causing it.

I’ve had it from a dodgy lower back some years ago. Core strength and stretching needed. Still do core and stretching.

Had it last year caused by piriformis syndrome. Foam roller on the side of my buttock area sorted it in a few days.

McKenzie technique exercises can be helpful.

Massage, stretch, strengthen should also help. A decent physio should be able to put you in the right direction.

We did our first skiing in Zell Am See, Austria. Great for beginners and plenty for better skiers too. Kaprun just up the road too which I think is a glacier resort so reliable snow – and I think they filmed a Bond film there too.

This is turning into a great thread lunge. Keep it up.

Or at least keep up with them!

In the spirit of the thread, I’m secretly hoping they tear you to pieces and you come on here tonight having had a recovery meal consisting of a large slice of humble pie

Was going to suggest Aberdyfi beach. Go round the corner a couple of hundred yards from the main tourist bit and you will have 5 miles of beautiful sand all to yourselves, sheltered by dunes that back on to the golf course. Can walk/run/ride to Tywyn if you fancy.

Rhayader has a decent loop. Might be able to provide a GPX but nav is a bit vague in parts. When are you visiting? Might be able to hook up, get in touch with Clive Powell Bike Shop, they might be able to take you round.

NanT Yr Arian not far away is not a bod trail centre. Likewise Coed y Brenin, if you want a bit of waymarked fun.

    You duuuurty boy!!!!!

    On a more helpful note….

We are on chlorine with ours rather than bromine, but it’s probably fairly similar in practice.

The key is to only go in “clean” i.e. no muddy knees, no make up, no body lotion (it’s not going well so far is it!) don’t wash your cozzies as they will hold a bit of the soap, no sun cream etc.

They will all make yer sex pool cloudy.

You can get clarifier treatment for it (the tub that is!), and anti foam stuff too. On our old tub (had it 8 years) we never needed any of that as we always went in clean. If you have kids that go in it they can make it murkier as they are generally oiky, and teanagers with hair gel and make up and all that stuff.

    Never used chlorine shock either.

Just me and the missis tho, so no filth of ANY kind :-(

New tub been in for a month and it’s crystal clear and used daily. We got some shock sachets with the chemical pack, and I’ve used one, but don’t think I’ll buy any myself.

So you might get away with clarifier, and making sure the chemistry is right. Or you might need a drain and refill and only go in clean.

Vaenol at Tywyn is nicely located.

Walk to the beach. Walk to Tywyn for food. Holgates ice cream shop is just the other side of Tywyn.

Plenty of beaches and mountains nearby.

Aberdyfi beach not far away is miles and miles of beautiful sand and great for flying a kite and watching the kite boarders.

Not that far to drive to Harlech for castles etc.

An update given the helpful replies….

Local spark (cyclist too!) recommended 16mm2 to the garage CU then 10mm2 to the tub, tallied with rwmartin which was reassuring.

Ended up taking a feed directly from the main house feed via 100amp isolator next to house CU, into to the garage (means the house isn’t affected if there is a trip on the tub/garage circuits) into RCD protected new CU to bring the garage up to date. 25amp breaker to the tub and new breakers to the lights and sockets in the garage.

I did all the cabling, wired up the garage CU etc and the spark did connections around the house CU and tested and signed off.

    All perfect.

@rwmartin – missed your last question – just outside Llandrindod Wells.

    Just sent you an email.

I have a couple of nice 1 hour rides from my front door, a couple of good climbs (it is Wales) but we can plod steadily up them.

MTB is best from either Builth or Rhayader. Navigation can be hard though as in a lot of places there are no discernible trails on the ground.

Road ride from Llandrindod is great though.

Let me check my diary later today. I should be able to squeeze a bit of free time Tuesday afternoon to take you on a nice road ride.

What time are you free from and how long do you want to be out?

Been a bit wet round Elan for the last hour or so.

    Torrential around Llandrindod area.

Had a great ride on dry hard fast trails Wednesday night.

    Thanks Milky.
