strawberries would work too but do like a bit of sun.

I used my TT bike for Outlaw iron distance tri a couple of years ago. Stayed in the position for the 6 hours that it took me to do the course. Not blisteringly fast but it was my first iron distance. Was comfortable all the way round.

in reality it meant I could just sit and spin in comfort in a reasonably aero position. To do 112 miles on the road bike would have been a bit more upright and a bit more weight on the wrists.

i suspect that I was 20+ minutes quicker on the TT bike, but very comfortable and no problems on the run.

i had Retul fitting on both biles.

it was also much less faff than switching saddle position and tri bars on and off the roadie. I used to do that – had a separate seat post with saddle for easy swapping too, but it was still a faff. So I kept the road bike as just that, and had the TT for tris and tri training.

i have since moved to hilly Wales, so the TT bike hasn’t been ridden for a couple of years, so if you fancy a nice carbon Felt my email is in my profile. (Stealth ad alert!).

i did ironman Wales last year on my road bike as it was a hilly twisty course and we had high winds and lots of rain so not TT bike friendly for me.

I’ve got some new handles to fit so a couple of non-fancy heads, after I broke the original ones.

I have the steel wedges etc.

Any tips on how to do it?

Presumably shave down the head end so it just squeezes in to the head. Do I pre split the end? Do I soak it in fair trade yak milk?

    Yes. I think!

I think of them as “drop in” as you have noting to press into the frame like A Headset cups. You just drop em in and they mate to the angle in the head tube.

    Was that helpful?

If it’s Artex or similar, you could scrape the high bits off, then smooth it all over with a wet sponge, no need to plaster if it’s sound.

I wear one vf and one standard lens.

Distance clarity wasn’t great with both vfs, but with a vf in my stronger eye and standard in my weaker eye, they balance out nicely.

Mostly only wear them for cycling so that I can see stuff and read garmin etc

Yeah, have you got another frame knocking about that you can try the new bb in?

I got a new Orange Clockwork 29er frame last year and the non drive side thread in the frame wasn’t good.

Borrowed a bb thread chasing tool to clear it.

Good shout on the mid tube though, try fitting it without the mid tube?

We have a bulk lpg tank.

Before we had two log burners we would empty a tank in a month in winter at around £450 and we wouldn’t be sitting around in shorts and tee shirts either.

Bulk lpg – the 2nd least cost effective……

Ive had a couple of similar back issues down to bulging discs or whatever the latest phrase is. Couldn’t even move around on all fours.

Lying face down and relaxing helped lots in the first few days.

Then plenty of rest but easy mobility. Then after a few weeks once it’s healed you will need to do some core strengthening exercises….and keep doing them regularly.

Looks like a difficult few days ahead!

I only watched 2 films this year. Which is more than the the last few years!

Blade Runner was dull and too long.

Detroit – I was dragged out by a mate one evening, I wouldn’t have chosen to watch it. I didn’t even know what it was about before I went in! Was actually really good.

Really must try to watch a few films but only normally like light hearted funny stuff and good ones like that are hard to find. Something like A Knights Tale suits me, shallow lightweight that I am

If have some 100mm 29er recon silvers.

They are noticeably heavy, and not really that nice. Really do t feel any where near plush or smooth.

I was given them mind, and they are on a 100mm Orange Clockwork frame.

I will give them a service and see if they improve, but I doubt it.

So I’m looking for something to replace them with.

Might go for a bit more travel and either risk frame damage or see if I can reduce travel or run them with a bit more sag.

I use turps/ white spirit type stuff for degreasing. Or thinners if I have some knocking about.

Not that Eco stuff though. Crap that is, but presumably better for the environment.

Wrightyson- I moved from Belper to mid-Wales a little over three years ago. It’s ace.

Been adopted by the locals, including some top ride buddies. Local pubs, bars and restaurants are on first name terms.

Fantastic road and mtb riding from the door. Within an hour to Machynlleth, Abergavenny, Crickhowell, Nant yr Arian etc.

    Good roads and infrastructure.

Not in a big Welsh language area, but there is some about.

Mrs is first language Welsh speaker, from Machynlleth area, and the welcome we get there is always friendly. Including from some of the old “activists” types.

Love it here. No plans to move away.

Just stick at it, and go regularly, in between lessons.

Get a monthly pass for the pool so it works out cheap if you don’t have a gym membership.

Even if you only go and do 10 minutes some days, just keep practicing. Some days you will hate it.

    You will get there.

I could do “save my life ” breast stroke, but at the age of 45 was talked into doing a triathlon, so had to learn crawl. It took a while to get it so that I could do 4 lengths none stop. Then it was just a case of stretching the number of lengths out bit by bit.

Did my first Ironman triathlon at age 49 with a 2.4 mile swim in 1 hou 18 minutes.

It was actually a really good thing to learn a whole new skill at a ripe old age.

Molgrips – please stop this now!

I moved away from near Derby 3 years ago, just as they were opening the new velodrome. My ex tri club have regular sessions and delight in telling me how good they are via Facebook.

I now live near Llandrindod Wells, so 60 miles to Newport. And I’m very tempted (yep, and daunted) by this.

A bit far away to become a regular, but might be fun to do the taster or get accredited for something a bit different.

    No! No! Stop it now!

    Shim no problem.

Probably best to get new olive and insert as you may have to remove the compression fitting to get the hose through the frame.

Don’t know which alternatives work tho.

    A bit of heat.

Hair dryer or hot air paint stripper type thing. Get them really warm and peel away. Might need a scraper.

I reckon the cable has come/was a bit slack and has got itself kinked inside.

Not had sora., but have had it on Tiagra etc.

Disconnect at the mech, pull the inner taught and do some clicky up and down with the lever.

Will probably just need a new inner cable.

Llandrindod Wells (mid-Wales) had about 3 inches yesterday and another 4″ so far this morning. And it’s still a blizzard.

Looks like a turbo session this morning. Hills are all steep here so would just be pushing the mtb.

Davidtaylforth – what’s so good about centre lock?

Genuine q. I’m looking at some new road wheels and some are centre lock. I have no CL discs but loads of spare 6 bolt discs.

I’m easy either way, but interested in any particular advantage.

WCA – I remember the post when you bought that Kleenman thing.

And I love that your CL spent three years basically open to all and nothing happened. Just shows how safe things really are.

I drive a 13 year old 235k miles Honda. With central locking that doesn’t now due to a sticky drivers door lock. So I don’t bother locking it.

I’m just looking at the Prime wheels on wiggle to throw on my winter bike. Road/cx/grrrravel bike.

The Pelotons look fine and 1870g isn’t too bad (and is much lighter than the ones I currently hatehave on it) and are £99 or £110 for disc.

The Race are around 1470g I think and just over £200 from memory.

They also do some nice looking carbon ones for £450ish and up, The shallow ones are around 1370g.
