my cv is exactly what they require!!

Exactly what I’ve been thinking about the last few jobs I’ve applied for. I have another 2nd interview next week, and an assessment day up in Flintshire on Tuesday, but am still unemployed and have been since 23rd Dec.

It was fun to start with, redundancy money, and lots of time to ride my bikes, but 2 weeks ago I buggered my ankle up while out riding and am now BORED, BORED, BORED……

I don’t know how people can choose to be unemployed for years….. I bores me senseless…..

I have Pro II’s at the moment and they’re excellent. Both have had no maintainance at all in 2 years and the hubs keep turning buttery smooth.

The next wheels I get will have Royce hubs though.. The price is just a little more than Hope, but is less than CK and won’t be affected byt the price hike in bike parts as they’re made in the UK !!

Wales seem to have found a functioning lineout at last

Which always was a really big problem. 11 from 11 on Friday night. Very impressive lineout play. At least there are many positives that can be drawn from the game.

Being and Aberystwyth Local and riding up at the Climach-x every couple of weeks, I can tell you it’s riding pretty well at the moment.

TBH the top of the final descent as you go past the View point and before you get to the switchback berms is really gnarly at the moment and needs a bit of work. Just ride it fast and you’ll be alright.

I 2nd Brechfa. The Gorlech is one of the best trails in Wales IMO..

I still have 2 purple anodised chainring bolts, which were on the first bike I built myself in 1990, on my Superlight. They were on my Muddy Fox Courier comp !! The chainring bolts have been on every bike I’ve built since then, and due to wear and tear, I only have 2 left.

I have F120’s which I can very much recomend. The only  would be the 15 hour seal service which Fox recommend you do. This can get a bit inconvenient, especially when you ride often.

I have NN on the front of my superlight. Great tyre, very sure footed on both trail centre trails and the natural stuff here in Mid Wales. I’ve never had a problem with the sidewalls, but I do have the snakeskin walled version.

I had a RR on the back, but that’s come off for the winter and was replaced by a Mountain king.

    I can second “Symbicort..” 🙂

I have had asthma since I was 8 and it plagued my life, rugby career and general exercising until I started using Symbicort 3 years ago, at the age of 29..

Since starting to use this drug I’ve only used my Salbutamol inhaler (reliever) twice. Both of these occassions were when I had a really bad cold / chest infection.

did anyone actually get an email saying the entries are open? I just saw the thread on here.

Best way to do it, in a covert style.

I got a text from Summit an hour before it went live online

Yup, I use my crossbike up at Nant yr Arian. Riding a lot slower than normal but it’s ace fun. I would prefer to have disc brakes though as Canti’s are a little wanting sometimes.

Have 717’s and am converting for the first time as I’m sure it’ll save me a fortune in tubes in my rear wheel, a rate of 1 every couple of rides, (and I ride a lot)

I enjoyed Llandegla the first time I went. I thought it was fine. It was during the week and there was no one around but me and my mate. Bacon butties lived upto their expectation and the atmosphere in the visitors centre was great.

Off to Penmachno tomorrow so will be able to judge fuzzyjimble’s comment by tomorrow night.

people always mock what’s unobtainable to the masses…. when a man buys a flash sports car for example, people always assume that he has a small *****……….. it’s just jealousy…..

    No doubting masochism then… ?

I’d have gone fr black rims, bars and seatpost etc myself, but that’s personal choice…… Liek the frame, good write up in this issue of ST but when approaching £3K, I’d have bought my dream frames, and IBIS and still saved about £1K

I love it when people post bikes on here for everyone to admire… then get the p1ss taken out of them….. it’s rather masochistic

Gotta love that comment “with my redundancy money running short!!”

Guess I best ditch some brakes that annot me a bit and buy some new ones

It’s true though… I have a new job lined up and am spending what I have left…. nowt wrong with that is there ?

Tarw and the dragons back. But if doing the dragon’s back theres a short cut to the top of the adams family sections, which even though rather steep, saves you a “out and back” fireroad (for the most part) loop which is a waste of time..

Tarw is my personal fave as it has lots of “big” features and when you’ve finished is you get a real sense of having a work out…. what I mean to say is that you ache all over..

Thanks for your input guys. It confirms to me what i was thinking, that they’re as good as XT and stop you well enough. I’ve been a bit of a bike snob all things considered and wasn’t going to buy SLX as the groupset replaced LX, but with shimano prices rocketing at the moment and my redundancy money running short I think SLX are going to be the best option.

Ergon again here on my bike in the snow. Aslong as you’re not using L bend bar ends they look fine. I wouldn’t be without my ergons now, they’re a godsend on long rides where you need more than one position for your hands on the bars, particularly enduros…

What is the right amount of travel on a aggressive hard tail? 140mm

Best frame material for a hard tail? Steel – Cromoly

Preferred top tube length? 22″ (But i’ve got a really long body with short legs, 6’3″ with a 32″ inside leg)

Preferred frame size? L or 19″

Preferred wheel size front and rear? 26″ both ends (But I would like to try a 29er at some point as I am tall)

Slack ,steep, or somewhere in the middle. -(Head tube angle)Steep (ish)

How much would you pay for a highly specked aggressive hard tail? upto £1500

Singlespeed or geared? Geared – definately Too many “Big” mountains in this bit of Wakes

Hard tail or rigid ? HT But I’m loving my rigid cross bike at the moment

Big tyres 2.35+ or small tyres anything up to 2.35? 2.4

Thick tubes or small tubes for the frame? Small tubes

Low BB or high BB? Low BB

Hope this helps, good luck with your GCSE’s. I built a Full susser (really badly) for my A Level “Design Tech” and my mate built a Hydraulic Disc brake, back in 1994 !!!

I use a 2.4 on the back in the summer, but it’s a bit scketchy for this time of the year. Very much recommended in the summer though.

In respect of your question, a 2.25 will be fine for a HT.

I got made redundant on December 23rd. I’ve been loving every minute so far. The Dole is sh1te, but the opportunity to ride your bike is endless, for a while.

Fortunately for me, having been stressing for the last month, a few things have now all come along at once. Hopefully I’ll be gainfully employed before the redundancy money runs out.

My middleburn rings last for years rather than months. Brought a whole new set of rings last spring when I converted from a duo to triple, and they’re as yet pretty much as new. The teeth wear well and they last forever especially if you go for hardcote. Infact make sure you go for hardcote… 🙂
