Really? Why not? Is the centre precious about who uses the trails in there? Surely right to roam would allow use of the allegedly excellent singletrack which may or may not be in that rough vicinity.
This was discussed on here a wee while back, perhaps druidh was off STW when it came up…

Our wonderful access laws, of course, allow you to ride pretty wherever you want responsibly, doesn’t mean that all great riding spots should be blabbed about on internet forums.

The trails near Badaguish were built by the local club as a race course (with relevant permissions). Am sure the local bike shops will be able to give more advice on current condition of the trails.

From having sifted through the feedback that we used to gather on the CVDG website, opinion was er, “divided” on the switchbacks. Most people seemed to like the change from big bermed corners. Important to remember that the Carron Valley Partnership / CVDG’s ultimate aim was to turn Eas Dubh into a climb taking you higher up onto the hill, hence not berming them.

Good to hear of investment at CV given stuff going on elsewhere. Looking forward to heading up for a spin.

Been a while since I’ve been up that way:
3 – frustrating path along river’s edge with lots of burns to cross.
4 – hike a bike in, nice path through the glen, then can be a bit boggy until you get to the dam.

I take it you don’t mean this Friday? 🙂

Almond – head over old cramond brig and take a sharp left through the small car park below the bar/restaurant. there’s a path that takes you right up to the railway bridge at the end of the airport runway. there was a path of sorts through to wards kirkliston along the boundary fence, but it’s been 20 odd years since i rode along there (one of my first ever mtb rides).

from the end of the runway, take the farm track up alongside the railway, left then right past farm down to meet turnhouse road, turn left here and head past golf courses, left up tarmac climb and left again into the tip. look for a path hugging the golf course wall and you can follow this into cammo park. not a great deal of interest in there and very busy with dog walkers at popular dog walking times.

The VVA-14 is very cool. makes me think of Space 1999.

I have spewed after getting off one of the devices depicted in this thread. Guess which one.

Lots of great hills around that aren’t too demanding to knock off at this time of year as long as you err on the side of caution. Also a lot of non-Munros that you could get into trouble on if your not great navigationally – was (most of the way) up Ben Ledi today, “tame” hill with a couple of quick ways down if you make an arse of it…

make sure jam is set before putting in a jar. put a wee dollop on a cold saucer and slide finger into it from side – if set it should wrinkle.

    really must make some more…

Was up in Plockton a few weeks back and only things I rode were the track to the mast on Plockton Crags and a nice bit of singletrack between Loch Achaidh na h-Inich over to Balmacara Sq. Used to be XC racing in the forest above Balmacara, but no idea what was there / if any of it’s left.

Worth dragging yourself up to the mast, great views from the top.

Scottish CX series wrapped up a fortnight ago with the two Crosses at the Castle on Mull. Only race left is the postponed Scottish Champs which happen on 23rd January in Irvine. Should be a cracker of a race on a great wee circuit.

    What’s NACC?

    Probably Jenners or John Lewis.

Edit: suspect that’s saved you a world of pain.

Contacts for everything other than commuting, but usually with sunglasses over the top.

Very occassionally blink one out when riding offroad, but carry a spare pair. Only time they’ve caused a real problem was when I lost one on lap two of four in the Scottish XC Champs at Glentress, right where the course entered Spooky Wood. That was a bit shit.

davy-g – who was that with? I buy mine from http://www.lensway.co.uk/ these days.

Council response has been pretty good here. Would seriously question how Amey and Bear have coped with problems on trunk roads and also how Traffic Scotland disseminated information (if I see another variable message board saying “Caution Snow” this winter I’ll tear it down by hand).

Scotrail / Network are a fcking shambles too. Services still severely disrupted days after the last of the bad weather.

Glad Stevenson has gone. His performance on Newsnight on Monday was horrific.

I’m more than happy to be corrected on any misinformation, however you can’t correct me on my opinion, marty.
It was a “fact” that you trotted out twice, despite being corrected the first time. I don’t recall you apologising, although you did admit to a memory problem (which clearly hasn’t got better). Given that the information you posted was very likely from a document that wasn’t in the public domain at the time (see here), I think it’s safe to hazard a guess at where you saw/heard it, eh? Amuse me, was it from Leith or Corstorphine?

Anyhoo, I’ll try not to into the CV thing again on here (unless someone asks a specific question). Handed all of my papers and notes on to someone doing some research earlier in the year. Very much a full stop for me.

That full stop doesn’t prevent me from commenting on other issues in the mtb / FCS / trailbuilding area though. Spending several years working on the CVDG project (and on races and events elsewhere) does give me a pretty good view of what’s gone on, what’s going on and where things look like they’re headed. I don’t comment on things I know little or nothing about (unlike some others on here).

    HTH, HAND, etc.

I’m not going to get any further involved in my opinion of CV
Great news. I was worried I might have to correct you for a third time on the crap you’ve trotted out twice previously.

Don’t believe all you’ve heard from your source. Might turn out to be as unreliable as TJs…

    :), natch.

Blockade of the new cafe as well. With no supplies and no customers it will not be viable.
LOL! What do we want? Egg on Toast! When do we want it? Now!

TJ – can’t your friends in high places (y’know the ones that told you that The Hub weren’t going to bid) tell you who has won?

north of Inversnaid is apparently shitty.
aye, north of Inversnaid to Beinglas camp site is pretty awful. 2.5 to 3 hours of on/off/push/carry with a couple of clambers up/down ladders. if you know the crappy bits coming it wouldn’t be that bad, would be a pretty grotty surprise.

Got to do that bit though, who wants to have done Bits of The West Highland Way in a Day? 😉

should be fairly obvious from the OS map. Forest Lodge to Kinlochleven is WHW. Tarmac out of KLL, then main road/old road back to meet the DS & WHW. don’t know how much new road there is back up, would have thought and out and back would be better to avoid excess tarmac?

Does anyone have GPX of the route?
    No.

How well sign posted is the route?
    Signposting is pretty good IIRC.

Will a cross bike be okay?
Yes. Section along sand dunes at Lundin Links will be a bit of pain (unless you’re very light).
