yeah, and pinch flats is one of the biggest reasons most folk would go tubeless.

does the pain kick in for the first few days or does it stick thru the season?

druid, yer always up here in the mountains.. i would go for a tubeless rim and a tubeless tyre if i were you.its possible to inflate 819s/contis from around 10psi with no fluid if everythings clean enough.this could be handy when yer stuck on the top of a mountain (IF anything should happen)

forget ghetto with the stuff you ride/places you find yerself in ;O)

currently i have a bit of fluid in them just incase i get a bit of glass or thorns (from the highland cacti)

The hayes strokers seem to be a good brake for pistons returning fairly well compared to some other brakes out there. you say you eased some fluid out.. you need to ease some back in ;O) but do what dimmadan just told you and reset the pistons hard into the piston bores before bleeding.

If its not done already, get the mount faced as well.also check that the pads are in a good flat/square condition. these two jobs should see a stroker clearing really well as along with shimano, they retract better than most brake systems.

the renault will break before the ford.. aye.

did top gear test the strength and reliability of the cars? no.they dont care about that, they want to know about performance. they went on track and tested them to see what can go from start to finish around the track the fastest.the most unreliable, lightest, best cornering car won.

why would folk look at the next best hothatch because its got more boot space, more horsepower or more gubbins that make it slower than the renault? you buy a tdi estate with all the gubbins for that.or is it the looks of the car and the RS badge that does it for you?

also, some folk on here seem to think a car needs all wheels driving it to make it go fast and that anything with over a certain amount of bhp in fwd cant possibly work.what did they say about the megane around the nur? you could down a cup of tea and a slice of cake by the time that new focus finished a lap.. and thats with a boot full of tubular steel too!

picture todays wrc rallying.. and consider the power they have going to all 4 wheels. Now watch this and consider how fast a wrc car of today would be tackling some of these routes.5 mins 20 seconds is quite good.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Okj8aHcn_Yw

but my fav clip is at 2 mins 53/Grasse aplin 94. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5v-OhjiBDg

that "girls" car would put a lot of todays wrc cars to shame.

Its the same old thing.. wide angle lens giving the impression of crazy speeds. You see it in F1 and onboard stuff at the isle of mann TT recently. The isle of man onboard stuff is a great example. Its extremely fast stuff but do you really think they can pin a course over 38 or so miles if thats the speed they were going with the speed things are vanishing out of the picture? yes, it IS the speed they are going but the way the lens makes stuff vanish out of the picture a little quicker than the human eye, makes it all look amazing. old TT footage along with old jackie stewart kinda motor racing shows stuff at more realistic viewing. ive filmed some slow stuff and it looks so fast when i play it back on the computer. infact only a few weeks ago i was filming one handed along a track as a bunch of sheep ran in front of me (dont ask) going about 10-15mph and it looks so much faster.

If you look at the guy in front cornering, you will notice he nearly comes to a halt on a few turns and the footage at that point still looks mad thru the camera as the track dissapears from view.

He could also be using so much more of the track on the approach into turns to aid the cornering speeds. still fast stuff but i dont think they are cawkz.

its a right pain but the car driver was the start of it all and you all ended up taking the hit.if you all had a good distance between you then things might have been a bit diffrent.. but it would have had to have been quite some distance (we all ride a bit close at times and if this happened to any of the bikers on here, the outcome would have probably been the same for us.no, dont perk up and say you could have avoided it! we know who ye are!) If you braked to a near complete stop, your mate could still have hit you being quite some distance back with the panic/fixation. Reading the story makes it look like you were all riding too close but at the time, i wouldnt be suprised if you all had quite a good distance between you.Its just something that happened. This is what a few of us were talking about the other day,one drivers little mistake coupled with anothers little mistake can add up to a big wrong.
its the same with speeding.we could say that "oh we were only going 70mph in a 60.." and so could the other driver, and this is what police are talking about.when they say speed kills, a lot of us are quick to reply that it isnt.but when just a few mph over the limit from both drivers goes wrong.. it can end in tears when the drop of 20mph could have been enough to avoid the collision or enough to make the injuries a bit less serious.

You might say that your friends rode into you, but they might also say that you braked helluva hard,so.. whats the damage going to total? without bringing insurance into it,what would it cost each of you if you split the total? friends and all that.keeping a clean nose with the insurance would be nice.especially with them keeping notes on things for when you go to another bike/elsewhere for insurance.

anyhows.. yer alive.with this in mind you should be happier today than you have been at any other point in your biking life!

If someone has the same car as you, sees your plate on some website and clones it.. makes up a good looking taxdisc, he could be driving around for a long time as long as he drives sensibly.

maybe i`m wrong. would it be this easy?

not always totally meaningless to the insurers. If you dont tell them then you may as well not have insurance as when the time comes to make a claim or if you have an accident they will use every little thing they can find to NOT pay out.

Not telling them you have an sp30 back in july will have some insurers rubbing their hands together and telling you to get on yer bike. be 100% honest.

another thing i do when phoning my insurers is writing down exactly what they have told me,along with the time and date and the name of the person.

Ive had to call insurers about certain things years later after certain incidents and they have said they had listened to old phone calls and told me that so and so wasnt the case.. ive replied with "well i was speaking to so and so on this date at this time and they said that this or that would be o.k."

they had called/written back saying that they were sorry, and i was indeed correct.

you have chosen the wrong chrome plating bunch by the sounds of it! Ive had alloy araya rims chrome played around 1993 and the chrome was perfect. the only imperfections were the marks on the rim from when they were made. the braking surface lasted well too. if you look in the back pages of motorcyclenews or the other motorbike magazines you`ll find the names of a few that can chrome. then do a search for each of them and see what you can find about the quality of their services on the net.one gets rave reviews but i canna mind the name of them.

I still cant post pics after all these years. that mist was coming up from the loch after the heavy rain yesterday.on the way back from whitebridge i had to drive so slow because the visibility was so poor.all cleared up later on though and today is another scorcher! oh, why is it that when i view the full on quality of that pic it comes out so sharp on my screen but once its on fotopic it doesnt seem anywhere near as crisp as the likes of postierich`s pic above?

Having passed my bike test last year and knowning roughly what a bike feels like going around left and right handers, its a bit diffrent to a car and a hell of a lot harder.it will take decades to feel confident on any bend that jumps out on me at whatever speed i want. you could say that if a car race was staged around the TT course then the likes of loeb would memorize it enough to pin it all the way but he could get away with not knowning it as well as a motorcyclist and make corrections on every other corner.. and live to tell the tale. Not on bike though.

rossi on a motorbike would never pin the TT course within a week.He wouldnt pin it over a few months of practicing! Hes got the fear and admits he has the fear of the TT. he would have to hit every fast corner with confidence and near perfection to stay on/win.
you could get away with so much in a car though.there is NO WAY rossi could do it in a week.
Have a look at the big picture in this months superbike magazine, pages 6&7 of michael dunlop.Hes probably over a ton in the pic.its blind and bonkers.

point you in the right direction? to be honest, after riding the likes of todays tyres, going back onto even a 2.1 mythos is a joke.once you try out some new compounds/tread patterns on todays tyres, you`ll wonder why you bothered with them.ten years ago we might have all tried them at some point but having ridden my old bike with them last year i couldnt believe how bad they were on a mixture of mud and hardpack.i tried diffrent pressures but it soon hit home how bad they were.i found them very sketchy.

It was very noticable racing bmx with 180s when i should have been using 175s.
Ive also just moved onto cranks on the geared mtb that are 5mm longer and its noticable but not to the point where it can affect things like on the bmx.spinning them out of the saddle down bathgate bmx tracks first straight gives the answer to why the right length is a must have on a bmx but not so on a xc/trail bike.If it were four cross on an mtb then its obviously very important to have the right length but for xc/trail riding you could get away with riding something a bit too short or too long and never actually notice where its holding you back (like its not noticable to a few on here regarding the replies so far)

Id say its going to be a problem to those spinning a lot and/or those pushing the bike to the ragged edge whilst out of the saddle (like to the point where one little mistake could end in tears).riding longer or shorter cranks might never show up as a problem for most people under xc/traily usage (not adding rock bashing and root catching) but its still important to go for the length that would be best suited for the riders leg length, riding style,usage/what they might want to use the bike for.(a 5 foot tall rider with 185`s wanting to do a 3 minute hill climb on the road for example lol)

If you look into other possibilities, garlic.. you will find that some forks might have more movement than others between upper and lower legs. example: an old sid compared to a fox 36 :O)
Throw in a bit of wear and you might find even more movement under hard cornering etc..

whats that going to give you if you fit a stiffer seal? its not going to flex and go with the flow is it? leading to it opening up more so.theres pros and cons.its all swings and roundabouts.

Havent driven much but i liked a mrk 2 lotus elise (120bhp?) i had a wee shot of years ago.went out down the Kincraig road from Aviemore in it with the owner and drove it back.lovely feel to it but two up it felt gutless.sounds good with whats behind you but if you blip a car into a lower gear and nothing much happens with all those sporty looks etc.. its a bit of a shocker isnt it?!

moving on.. same again but a 2007? RS4.bike in the back, 2 up and other stuff in the hearse-like boot and it just powers on like the extra weight makes no diffrence. amazing grip. (Aviemore to the heather centre)driven by the owner, a very scarey experience when the owner has the idea in their head that “its near impossible to crash it” due to what all it can take care of ( but he didnt, and did a great job of it!).in the right hands, those cars could go around some other cars twice over.

    my car.. pug 106 gti.

nowhere near the power of the Rs4 and not as planted as the elise but driving home after the RS4 experience the drive of it put a grin on my face. Not because it had better grip, went faster or handled better.. it just… you know, put a smile on my face ;O).

so when a car costing 3k compared to a car costing 58k+ give you a better feeling, you know yer onto a winner.

worst: my fathers H reg mercedes 190E 1.8 ::walks off shaking head:::

I rode from glen brittle on skye up into the black cuillin one eve and it was a laugh trying to climb the bike up the tracks with a tent (average weight),lightweight self inflating mat,and fairly light sleeping bag.it was mostly on my back in a rucksack but what a mare trying to keep the front end down and ride it like normal. its ok if you want to get into the hills but you need to deffo get the weight down low if you want to enjoy the ride as well.

Nowhere near as bad as the Heart shaped shades some roadie had on in that crit on ITV4 last night!

I`m not into the trucker cap thing either.theres been far better looking caps in fashion over the years and fashions come and go but thats just it…fashion. we all turn into a bunch of daft looking sheep at some point in our lives.we all regret things in fashion.. in 20 years time a lot of people will be laughing at the trucker cap along with how they suffered by wearing their trousers around the underside of their buttocks.. just to be cool.

but look back at what YOU might have worn in the past and tell todays generation about it. go on, tell em about yer burgundy staypress trousers,v necks and collarless shirts!
