heh, check that marta pad in Knotties pic. theres disc scuffing on the backing plate nowhere near the pad material! perfect example.

I dont believe its all down to pad quality. If someone wants new pads fitted, to do it right.. there is no way 10 times out of 10 you could just "fit" a set of pads and everythings hunkydorey.1 out of 10 and yer lucky.
throwing in a set half way through a race and expecting them to last well without cleaning things down, lubing pistons, straightening rotors, facing disc mounts?,replacing rotors, bedding in the new pads (wether it be hammering them from new, or taking it easy from new – depending on pad type – know which way to bed them in before you start slagging the companys brakes!)

Today is the day you puffer 24hr racers should be buying yer pads, fitting them and bedding them in ready for the races.i would buy a few spare rotors as well myself.

then again, i probably wouldnt need to as i would be running avid bb7s or similar where you can adjust the pads for clearence but still have enough bite point and stopping power to cope.

..then againnnnn,im lazy and ill be the one taking pics of the racing.. not racing myself. :O)

The torsional forces going through a bonded sleevey type construction like those must be taking some stress.I wouldnt trust them.I would trust carbon made in diffrent ways though, like the Time monolink.

This recall was mentioned in the u.k through email but why dont the brands forward it onto all the big websites? or have they? i havent looked elsewhere so maybe i missed it.

Dont do things to please other people.. that will then leave you unhappy.

Not accepting a gift is rude (older generation consider it very rude so be careful!) and mentioning something else they could spend the money on for you is a kick in the baws.

Tell them you want to go biking.. and that you have arranged to meet a bunch of strangers on a forum called singletrackworld. Now go start up a new thread under yer real name and we will all back you up!

how hard would it be to go back and take more? not trying to peev you off but if its not too much trouble then try and get a mix of the two pics. like folk have said, the faces are in pic 1 and it doesnt look as staged but the 2nd pic has a nice depth of field.Pic 1 has been photoshopped a little too much up the centre and its distracting me.Maybe its just me though as i always start to question pics that have been altered instead of enjoying them.

Like the pic on the homepage right now. Its a nice pic but the sunlight alteration distracted me and put me off taking in the moment and trying to live it a little.

Its about £30 RRP on top of the service to get the body replaced.with the finest of files you could slowly take it down flush and then finish it off by sanding/polishing in the direction that its moving. It will probably not look too great but its going to do the job and you will be wanting to service it within a year anyways.get the £30 out of yer mate now before its all forgotten about :)

Its nothing to do with the shifter or the cable tension and its not " "always" the cabling".

Some jam up at the extremes. They can do it from brand new and some will do it with age.sram know about it..and if sram say they dont know about it,then their reps dont give any feedback.

as per usual on forums.. another view:

I wouldnt be riding on the arches of my feet and heels down on descents.

As far as jumping goes, just take off bit by bit. Do NOT try and launch off anything full throttle.everything might seem normal until you leave the lip. Then you wish you hadnt lol.wee jumps to begin with.

Theres donkeys everywhere these days. i drove to Borders earlier from the house and within 1 mile someone pulled up behind me as i was going the speed limit and stayed on my tail with a headlamp out.. i slowed down for the slippy road filtering onto the A9 and the car pulled up so close before pulling out it nearly hit me.I was still within 1.5 miles of the house and still not reached any speed limit, yet i get these donkeys in such a short space of time. My lights work, the brake lights work, i dont have fogs on.. it reminds me of riding in the summer. you slow down or have to stop and you get flies on yer trail within seconds.

Rich , my seat ibizas last mot failed on a few things. one of them being the abs light on. I told them its never been on in something like 185k and i asked why it would be on now.they were unhelpful and i drive off.i drove back to the station after a mile or so as the brakes dragged so badly. i asked them to free them off as it didnt come in like that. they said they didnt fix or repair cars and i had to drive it home.

with everything starting to get so rusty it went on and on. abs sensora, drums, shoes,….still the abs light would come on.. then they found the flat connection pins in the abs unit very corroded and they reconed the fault was from that end.a new pump was approx 500 quid.i asked if they would fit a 2nd hand one after sourcing one for 165ish.. but they didnt.so i had to drive it down to another garage.the bill went upto about 980.

On top of that the 2nd garage called me to ask if i had the keys to the car after dropping it off. They recon they couldnt remember getting the keys from me.I didnt have them in any of my pockets,in the other car and it was nowhere at home.never to be seen again! total nightmare and no fob to lock the car anymore.they didnt even split the diffrence of the new key cost.. which took another week+.

I recon it was the abnormal braking forces of the MOT test that finished off my brakes.

Ive also left with handbrakes coming up a lot higher than when they went in.

Other pain in the ass stuff – getting a powersteering pump fitted recently left me finding out the next day that the side skirt and wheel arch was popped off as they caught them on the ramp… but didnt tell me about it.

Another time was getting tyres fitted by the sleepy monkeys that get jobs fitting tyres.i watched one guy slap the handle of the jack into my door. i took note of the point where the handle hit it,rubbed the area before i left and shook my head.It wasnt too bad but a dent was there.

MOre recently i had valves fitted to the rear of my car and they young loon went and fitted them all round to one car.. and it ended up with the guy telling me that the hub was stripped.i told him it came in with all fixing bolts fully tightened as i check them quite often/had the wheels off for other work not so long ago.. and he suggested i drove to the nearest dealer to get 2 new bolts. I told him to go around and get them for me.it got a bit heated and the manager got a guy to buy a bolt (they reconed one bolt wasnt too bad after all – but i found out that it was also thrashed at a later stage)

Ive also had engine bay plastics cracked after timing belt replacements etc.ive found cable ties holding things back together. I returned to the garage after that one and showed them and told them how effing (used the f word) rough the mechanic was.

the same garage recently had the whole front bumper off to replace my radiator.marks in the removable covers on the front of the bumper looked like they had been hacked with a carpet tack tool.both sides of the bumper no longer align.the fixings for the inner wheel arch linings have about 4 fixings missing and things rattle around now.

    and breathe.

oh no,westkipper.. if you search back months ago you will find that i might have mentioned getting onto the hoods more than early enough, thought about braking for a moment as i watched the car creep out of the junction, THEN start to brake.. pity i ended up skidding and snaking for quite some distance before hitting it. Theres no tread or contact patch big enough on a road bike to help you stop when these things happen.

bit like covering the brakes in a car.. was told not to do it during my lessons.

"Your cannot go wrong with a Jap 4, full stop. It will just work, taking incredible levels of abuse with quite minor maintenance – my zx9r which I ran to 60k would still rev to the red line and top out in excess of 170 without a worry"

cool.i might just keep the zx9r then!

Good grief. Ive just noticed this thread growing bigger by the day.

Within half a mile into a 10mile time trial at Culloden moor i approached some crossroads and a car pulled out on me without looking.Apart from leaning on a pair of tri bars at the time i would have thought i was reasonably safe.. just pedalling along on a quite scottish country road in a straight line with no obstacles in the distance.what could go wrong? a puncture? a broken chain? maybe.. but that wouldnt be too much of a problem. Then it happened.Something appeared that i wasnt expecting and i hit it.I wont go into it again but the helmet is in a cupboard and the compression in the polystyrene close to my temple is quite some diffrence compared to the undamaged side. After it happened i can only remember a blanket and an ambulance. I didnt know how to get home after hospital (i made it hard for the driver that took me home from the hospital as i couldnt really tell him how to get to the house) we detoured a bit but finally got there.

but you know what? i got home that night. for the sake of wearing a helmet that weighed next to nothing it was well worth having on. one of those little things that doesnt make too much odds.. but well worth it.

I tried to drive to work the next morning but felt so clumsy and spaced out that i turned back. Its only once its happened TJ that you wish you HAD put one on because for the small hassle, its worth so much. Not just to you,but for the folk around you as well.
Once it happens you ask yourself how sore it would have been without it.how cut open you might have been. How big the crack in the skull might have been.how long you would be in hospital (if yer lucky enough to still be there) how long you would have been off the bike.the list is endless.

My mothers friends son died cruising down the street many years ago without a helmet. he wasnt paying attention and wobbled a bit.. then fell and clipped the edge of the kerb and killed himself. this could have possibly been a quick trip to the shop around the corner.who knows. It can happen anywhere, anytime.

Jeremy, please spend 5 mins watching this video.Ive seen this very rider fall about 6 years ago at a skatepark during a u.k tour.during a fall, the bike hit the back of his head into the floor of a concrete pool.He was a bit dazed but lived another day.It didnt make him wear a helmet after that.. it took a lot more to drum the message into him but finally something happened that DID.Please watch the whole of the first video and ask yourself for the hassle of wearing a helmet – is it really worth it? They weight nothing, they are really comfortable and they dont look stupid.why leave home without one if you can agree on that? Can you agree,TJ? If you could agree, and said that you would wear one for every ride from now on.. i would send you a new helmet tomorrow.

splash out on the shell and bulk up underneath to what suits the conditions.
you asked for it to be waterproof, tough and also warm to go with it.this is going to be one big mother of a jacket! making it too warm for some conditions if its going to be quilted or seriously lined.

I just got a marmot jacket that retails for £190 down to £68.50 in tkmaxx.lasercut waterproof zips, goretex equivalent, zip in mid layer compat, stowaway or removable hood, powderskirt etc etc and its not some paclite crepe paper material thats going to last a few months either.

rode up from the back side of the ridge and pushed my 19" kona hardtail up the ridge. rode along the scarred top to the east end and back again.the view up over the dam towards Ullapool was like an oil painting.
then i raced a group of army guys down the ridge.. and was off the ridge before them and back to the car before they got to the carpark lol.

its been sorted out a lot since then so it might be an easier ride in many places.

nah,the nova with the 2litre engine probably wouldnt have sounded great. but the power to weight ratio throws everything else out the window regardless of it sounding highly tuned or not.it was probably running 80% of what it was when it was new lol.but i agree. some sound like 50cc scooters.

    martinxyz
    Free Member

aye but picking out the note of an engine might tell you one thing.but it doesnt tell the whole story.

theres a guy on one of the pug 106 sites thats got about 245bhp out of a tu 1.6 engine.he has spent 30k on the whole thing. most folk jump up and say that its not possible to get that power down in a front wheel drive car with that power but it is.. and its good viewing watching him at track days on the forum.his onboard camera shows him pulling past big jap cars with ease.

track days or thrashes would show a few folk on here what the score is with the cars you see on the streets. its an eye opener.at crail i found out that civic type rs and vxrs werent all they were cracked up to be and the highlights were a lotus elise getting thrashed by a rusty old nova (2 litre engined) by a young loon with his mate in the passenger seat. He also pulled away from me through the last half of the quarter mile with ease.hes the guy that would have gone home with a smile on his face.. the folk in the big fancy cars go home feeling a bit daft.well, the ones that were silly enough to go along side the nova! most hold back to race only their mates as they dont want to be shown up.

so.. after that lesson,i would never smirk at some kid in a nova or corsa (unless it had on some silly bodykit).you dont know whats at the other end of their big exhaust.i do wish they would stop blasting about down the streets too, though.no point.

thisisnotaspoon, beware of dropping too low. the roads here have some holes over 4 inches deep, remember? lol.

i have new dampers and eibach springs in mine now with only a 30mm drop and although its not as low as it was, it works so much better.

i dropped 60mm to begin with.. what an idiot.

Is it a triple R or a plain triple you have rob? did you have any probs with it? i rode one for about 2.5 hours outside aberdeen and loved the position. the engine was great, not quite as much get up and go as my own bike but the noise was sweet! think i will wait a few years til they come down in price as they havent dropped too much in price yet. grr!

170mm on singlespeed ( not my first choice)
    175mm on geared full suss.

165mm on raleigh bomber.and they suck!

North, its got a seat as comfy as my car as standard.(ok i lied a bit there:O)) but its a bit diffrent to an R1.the pegs seem to feel lower and the position isnt racey at all.like folk have said over the past 13 odd years – more of a sports tourer.the engine hasnt dissapointed, puffed spluttered or done anything out of the ordinary in 11 thousand miles.this brings a grin to my face as all the bikes i have taken an interest in, i read about them lacking in diffrent point in the rev range, niggles about gear boxes, etc. all the bad points mentioned on the bikes i took a liking to never seem to crop up on my bike.

The engine and gearbox on the zx9r compared to the new street triple R is also good enough to make you think twice about the triple R.its just made me think twice about buying one as the useability of my engine power and gearbox compared to the 2010 str is better. the easiest way to describe it on singletrackworld.. is the diffrence between deore shifters and mechs.. compared to xtr! its that good!

and north, tj just likes to phrase things to wind me up.in a real world, one bmw engine could be hammered with poor oil levels/changes,the jap with the same miles could have had the same life but by going what one of the top engine builders has commented on in a recent ninja supplement as far as kwak engines go compared to everything else.. i wouldnt put any money on any euro stuff being superior. (hell, read the above link regarding other parts of the bikes lol)

Ive got a zx9r E1 with 18,200miles for sale right now.fully faired "sports tourer" as some call it. Its in good clean condition for the age although its got a few marks either side that havent been touched up after a few stationary drops, and a bit of flaking on the kawasaki green paint in the trough of the wheels. This it typical for the kwak wheels but i havent had a chance to get them powder coated yet (its not like it needs to be done, ive spent the money elsewhere doing more important stuff)

back in spring it had a K&N filter, carbs balanced, shims checked and new plugs. Its due an oil and filter change soon so thats next on my list. ive just cleaned it last week for a possible sale but the guy decided to haggle before seeing it and pulled out.Its now looking too tidy for me to use it on those dry-come wet winter days and i am half considering keeping it.Ive got pics if you want a look at it to give you an idea on its condition.

At night our eyes cant take in much light, john. what this means is that although most of us think we can see better at night (going by the cats eyes and lines) we cant take in enough light to get the same depth of field as we can in the daylight.the amount of light going into the eye in the daytime helps us focus a lot further away a lot easier.all similar to how a camera works.

the extra distance you can see all things reflective up ahead on the open road with HIDs is really worth it.the best thing about them is that you can see the eyes of animals further away/sooner than normal lighting. for the money, they are a really good upgrade.
