Ive been on the motorbike twice this week. checked tyres, oil.. wound the preload of the forks out three notches for a bit more comfort and i was off.oh no,the indicator had been knocked off against shed door. (fixed it) Then i was off.
It felt like i hadnt been off it at all although its been sitting there since start of november-ish. tried out a new riding position to help steering and comfort and it felt good.i agree with something i read from a magazine.. at last!

"And before anybody suggests it, for various reasons I'm not going for the faster ST4s, Daytonas, etc. "

I havent ridden many bikes at all but what about the latest street triple r? (tricks him into having the daytona engine under him in a different bike – even if a little tweaked over the daytona version) I tried the 2010 model and love the weight, size and look of it (not to mention the sound) Even back down to 2007? theres not much between them all.Its nice to be on a bike that feels like a heavy DH bike.even pushing it around on the ground feels like its got no engine in it! ..well,compared to my zx9r.The bike that has stopped me in my tracks from buying the str because of having to justify the price of the triumph.. to downgrade from the kawasaki engine with all that power in each gear and not to mention the gear change. It still looks dog compared to the triumph and weighs more but it was only when i went back on the zx9 after the street triple r test that i found that to spend all that extra money in the trade in..for something that is nowhere near as good in many ways, important factors.. that i couldnt do it.

Once the street triples come down in price i will look into it but for now its sticking with the bike that i have found to have overcome so many niggles that magazines moan about on so many diffrent models over the past few years.
You get fed up of reading that so and so lacks in this area.. and this bike cant do this etc etc.. it gets confusing reading the mags. you end up moving your eyes away from the magazine, looking at a blank wall with a frown and telling yourself "mine doesnt do that.. or mine CAN do that.. with no problems?!" Behind all the hype with so many bikes you can soon put 2+2 together and realise that with each year, bike dont really change THAT much.

show off, adrian! (i just pictured myself in that indian slum with kevin macleod? as you look down yer nose from a skyscraper on its outskirts)

    bleh.

djglover, its the time for renewal and they are offering the next 3 months for £10. then back to £19.99 a month.

I think new members get it for £14.99 but if you arent in a certain area, then all they can offer is the £19.99 deal.I think thats hows it stands right now.

"Offer ends 28/03/2010. Minimum 18 month contract. This offer is available to new customers or existing customers using AOL Anytime dial-up service. Credit card/debit details required. Subject to BT line and availability. This offer is only available in selected areas. If you can't get this offer, you may still be able to get AOL Broadband Wireless but you will be charged £9.99 for the first 3 months, then £19.99 thereafter.

capital of the highlands.. still 20 years behind as with everything else.

when i first passed my cbt i had L plates on the motorbike and a bus pulled out on me in Aviemore as i was approaching the tescos crossing.i was just about to pass the tail of the bus as it started to pull out and i carried on.. he carried on too and the car heading south on the other lane had to stop. I waved to the driver of the car and he waved back but the bus kept pulling out. I reported him as he was looking in his mirror if i remember.. and still pulled out on me.
I got an email months later saying sorry etc and that they will look into it.

I wasnt scared,it all happened slow and i was next to the bus so didnt feel threatened but some new riders out there might have panicked and fallen off into the oncoming car.

aye the road over and back to dingwall was great between 12-3am. the gritter past at midnight and it was spreading a hefty amount but it still didnt stop the ice forming through the night as the car was losing traction in 5th gear at 55mph.although it looked dry,it white with frost.
Inverness was glistening too in places where they hadnt gritted.

alek, the way you were speaking at 3am.. i was expecting you to ask me for "a spare 50p mister for ma busfare home". drunk, but not drunk! red eyes were class too. well done though good result.

I will post pics over the next few days of folk,moments,crap..

have you removed the wheel from the bike and felt if it gets any worse without the skewer?

without feeling it who knows.. but worn bearings or a broken axle could be something to do with it. so hard to tell.

Maverick, did you calculate this out for him with all these taken into consideration?

    Number of cross

    nipple length

    I think you calculated for 12mm.the 819 needs a 16mm nipple.

The road north of aviemore hasnt been good for a month. today was the best day so far with a fairly clear road but dont get cocky. the windblown snow in places you werent expecting (bridge over the findhorn at Tomatin) can appear from nowhere so if you are driving up in the eve when the slush is starting to freeze and you hit the bridge at 70mph.. and find the snow all over the road, good luck trying to scrub the speed on one of the most icy parts of the A9! just take it easy.

By the way, anyone heading up north to this race without a shovel has forgotten one really important tool.not just for emergencies you might have on the road, but once you get there it will probably end up being yer best friend.

A plastic snow shovel sells for 15 quid. try and get one back home as the local store sold 60 in 1 hour and the other hardware store sold 400 in 1 hour.

I just didnt open up the website to find the pic and say "wow, thats really nice"

instead i frown, lose it all for a brief moment and ask myself "why have they done that white misty patch with some sort of airbrushy thing?!"

sorry, i dont have photoshop so the airbrushy thing is what i would know it as! I like the pic but would like it more if it wasnt butchered.

I wouldnt put it all down to mistakes or forgetting to do it. Maybe the guy was looking forward to getting into it and someone popped in to try a bike, and he ended up selling it.. but had to build it up in another size? throwing him RIGHT off?

Give it until tomorrow and you never know.. you might end up with a build thats top notch and a service you might never have guessed.

my back box has snapped and it hanging there. it was fitted on 5th June 2007 (3 year warranty) but i can see them trying to get out of it by saying that the snow depth has ripped it off.it looks fairly rusted in the time its been on. do you think i should go for a warranty job?

i've had the opposite, driving over the snake pass before christmas i was constantly held up by timid drivers in 4x4s driving too slowly.

in a 2wd car they need to understand that momentum is my friend and when they stop on an uphill corner or mince downhill i'm going to get stuck or smash into the back of them"

So why not keep yer distance and learn to control a car downhill without even going near the brakes? you should be able to take a car down from 70mph-5mph or thereabouts without braking in the snow.

go out and have a play around with throttle blipping until you get it so smooth folk hardly know yer changing gear.

land rovers arent the best in some types of snow.i have pulled out of our carpark most days over the past 3 weeks without one bit of trouble.. the guy i work with had probs one day and was spinning even with big monster treads.

no matter what car or truck you have, the diameter, width, tread pattern and compound are the first things to be looking into to get grip.
