As far as stems that have a notch on them/steerer with a groove are concerned,on cheaper stems it would be a nightmare. You could be selling lower end bikes with stems that line up with the tyre and have customers questioning why the bars feel so squint! “erm, unfortunately my allen keys CANT sort that problem out”

There are a lot of cheap stems out there that are so poorly made that you can either align the stem with the wheel or choose to do the right thing by aligning the bars so that they run parallel with the axle in the hub.
The drawback is, when doing it the right way the stem itself can often look out of alignment when sighting it with the tyre. This can all be “humoured” by finding a nice medium but i would have to say that bars should run parallel with the axle of the front wheel.. even if the stem does start to piss you off when you glance down!

High end stems like Thomsons never have this issue.Luckily its less noticeable on shorter stems. Its a shame they cant make a stem that retails for around 20 quid these days without getting it slightly wrong but ..oh well.

Theres a few sprays that get used at work. One of them, for forks, smells nice (wont mention the brand) but it catches my throat and it makes it harder to breath.I work in a small area and have been wheezing over the past 3-4 months.I notice it when i get home/laying down before i go to sleep. I have never noticed wheezing before.

aka gilo,do you know anything about the earlier models of the bike you have? I was looking at a 2006 model earlier. Had a seat.. felt great! Nice position and with heaps of low down torque i would guess.

yeah,i would suggest fitting puncture resistant tyres. It is a mare. but then again, some of these folk will be taking it into a bike shop to get the puncture fixed anyways!

Check out Giants twist express with 2 x 26v batteries to assist you. The bikes can be off putting if you pick them up but the ride more than makes up for it when the power kicks in.The twin battery pack version has got quite an impressive range even on its most powerful mode.I used one before xmas to drop something off and it started to snow (with a gusty wind) and i was dreading the climb back up through the village but it made short work of it. I rode it quicker than i could ride any of my own bikes! Even if the battery went flat/you didnt charge it enough for some reason, its still a perfectly rideable bike. You wont be stranded. For someone not that fit and wanting to get out and about without breaking a sweat, they seem great. Dont think you have to sit back and just turn the cranks though, it still gets you working the heart and lungs. I think some folk get the idea that some of these kind of bikes are like an electric motorcycle so try them out to see for yourself.

3 fell last night and luckily nobody was hurt.It looked fine with the dusting of snow but there must have been about 100ft of ice.Take it easy!

Post has been messed up for weeks. The bad weather (remember that?) has thrown a spanner in the works and the delivery firms across the country had probably decided that clearing the backlog of xmas presents on time would have been the best move.. good on them, they seemed to do a good job and probably got no thanks at all.

Its only now the piles of other parcels are getting sent out into our hands so dont think its just this magazine thats the problem.. in the shop we have waited for some stuff that was sent out around the 21st of dec that only arrived today. We didnt call up the company. We just knew it would turn up.no big deal. I ordered stuff from Devon and and Cornwall around the 23rd and 24th dec and expected them to arrive around the 4th, which they did, i didnt go calling any of them up as its just wasting peoples time.. bringing folk away from their jobs which then causes other peoples post to run late. Things have gone a bit loopy in the country as of late so why do folk not hold their horses and let people get on with their jobs to speed things up?

Some folk on here would have seated yer bearings with a mallet like that.

    For free!

If these were used on some peoples mix n match bikes.. they could have a 29er fork fitted into a 26″ frame (thats going to throw the head angle a bit too laid Back) but once these cups are fitted (the wrong way round) you could bring the head angle back closer to its sweet spot.DIY 69er folk will be hunting for these cups.

Heres my 26″ wheeled 26″ hardtail with a 29er fork. nice length of fork with only 120mm of travel compared to the 140mm they came built up with. feels great. I can climb better on it that a few bikes ive had in the past that were “normal”

Still havent put a bolt thru 29er wheel in it though.

It sounds like all will be fine but where are you getting the idea that you cannot go up to certain lengths because of your height? If you chose not to buy a certain length of board as it “doesnt come up to your chin or nose or whatever” and it meant that you would suffer once riding it over certain conditions due to the extra weight.. would you still go out and buy a board that is supposedly the correct length for your height? I wouldnt.

If you were 5ft tall and 15 stone with size 7 boots, you couldnt ride a board thats a decent width for your feet along with it being, say, 140cm on the likes of groomed snow (wont mention powder here) and expect to tank around the mountain on it. You might be able to slide or spin around on it in a fun park but for all mountain playing about you would have to go up to something that can cope with the weight your placing on it or you could be finding yourself riding at 90% when theres so much more to be had.. if you had the right board.

Ive still got a board from 96 thats too short for tanking about on now that i weight 14 stone. its just not useable and i dont get on with it at all. when i was 11 stone it was amazing.. it was a great all rounder.

Theres other things you could run into as well. I found out that on Cairngorm i couldnt use a certain length of board with whatever sidecut it had as i just couldnt turn it within some of the runs. I could slide it, but never cut a proper turn on it.If you arent going to be limited between snow fences then this wouldnt stand out so maybe it wont be a prob.Just thought i would mention what i stumbled into a while back!

Speak to someone that has boarded where you plan on using it and try and get a shot of some demos as only you will know what feels right. Hopefully folk that have the local area knowledge along with board knowledge will narrow down the search and make it as easy as poss for you.

I run 120mm ones on a 26″ hardtail. 14stone and 90psi and they feel spot on out the box.

In temps down to -10c they seem to feel/work the same as they do in warmer conditions.. unlike a few other forks ive had in the past that choose the speed of the damping every 5 mins all by themselves when the temps drop well below.20mm pinch bolted dropouts with replaceable nuts are clever,if a bit of a faff. They have a hose guide moulded in where it should be with no threads..not a big deal but i like finishing touches that make the diffrence. They look great too.
