aye but the brake cable is tough enough to hold it together.. until you manage to come to a complete stop!

Raceface,if you ever feel depressed and possibly falling back in the wrong direction.. just look up this thread and take a look at that ridge you descended down! Not many folk get to ride stuff like that.

arghh, not this toast yer brakes thing again!

Read or find out what bedding in process for the brakes you have,THEN follow it.Not all brakes need heated up and braked hard to bed them in. Some require a gentle process.

why are folk referring to automotive procedures? Do formula take heed of AP`s bedding in process for a british touring car pad and disc combo?! NO!

went out along the canal towards loch ness. back towards Inverness and up Blackfold.crossed over the hill in the snowy tracks to descend down into Craig Dunain.Nice and warm today.managed to cool/dry off at the top of the climb by standing in the sun at the side of a snow field.pity it was still too wet and slushy to really enjoy it back down into Inverness.

Fit a new bb unit after packing in as much grease in and around the bearings as you can without dismantling it,grease the seatpost, put a strip of heli tape over the split at the top of the seat tube and never hose the bike higher than the split of the seat tube/upper headset bearing.

Ive done this for years now and i have a ht2 bb thats been on wet rides over coulags over 5 years ago and that BB is still functioning perfectly. Its been in 3 bikes now that have been on wet rides over the years so why hasnt it failed with water sitting in it like a sump?
O.K. i dont ride it as much as a lot of folk but if the bike got soaked back then, and it hasnt been stripped down.. then why the hell has the bb survived?

Because i dont spray chemicals over it after every ride and pour water into it.Thats why.

Same with forks, theres no need to aim the hose at the seals and spray water directly into them. They can survive trail spray perfectly well, but its the people that think mountain bikes are sealed as tight as a ducks arse that seem to be getting the problems.

I take it the front tyre direction makes no difference whatsoever in those conditions? I noticed yours/epicyclos fitted different.

Ridden both Rewski, but having worked on yetis in the past,i would have to say that the bearing removal/time to do the simple work on this single pivot just pizzes me off compared to all the others. As much as i liked the 575 I couldnt live with what i have seen people live with in the past.Zesty all the way.Oooh, that was so typical STW of me!

    Nice pimped out bike though!

Not quite sure about that model but earlier ones had plastic shims placed in the cups before the bearings were fitted. I found a few headsets had a binding in them and after much facing, greasing, head scratching.. i noticed that the shims had deformed and were squeezing inwards towards the steerer.

A sharp knife soon trimmed down the excess and they ran as smooth as a smooth thing.Bit of a pain but thats what caused the binding in a few i had fitted.I dont know the exact reason why they fitted them.
Not sure if thats the prob your are having though!

Where were you? I`ll have to get you to show me on a map next time you pass by.Looks a nice route.

I stopped on the way home to take a pic of the sunset behind those hills in the 2nd pic of yours.. never managed to get out in the daylight though, so i went out in the moonlight (just back at 11.35pm!) The snow is so hard to ride through south of Inverness. I pushed a lot then rode a bit.. only to get stopped in the track due to the pedals clipping the snow either side.It was so hard going.Glistening diamond-like snow blankets in the moonlight make up for the lack of rideable track so i`m not too fussed! The views through the trees are great too.You cant see through them as well in the daylight.Whole new ball game!

chewkw,i know a bike shop owner that got robbed of a 3k bike.the courier delivered it,signed for (with a scribble) and that was the end of it.Someone got a bike for free after calling up their bank and telling them that someone had just bought a mountain bike using their card.. then got it refunded.

you could easily sit outside someones busy street address in a car and pop out when you see a delivery driver.you could sit there all morning waiting for an expensive bike and pretend to be the occupant.

A few Electra cruisers have coaster brakes.Usually built using nasty chrome plated steel rims though. You would be wanting to strip it and rebuild it with something nicer if you sourced one.

There are a few great rides to be had over the plateau as long as you stick to the tracks and keep to rocky sections.without knowing how delicate it really is up there, its so easy to go “heather bashing” or “off piste” and mess up so much in one descent.

Theres arctic vegetation up on the plateau that when ridden or walked over,it can take years,if at all,to recover.without knowing anything about this,it is so easy for us mountain bikers to think “och, like heather.. itll pop back up once it gets a day or so of weathering" but to give you some idea of what these mosses are like.. you know those hard sponge type bases you can plant flowers into,or maybe stick some fake plants into? the stuff you can press your finger into and it crunches, never to return to its original state? well thats pretty much what some of the slopes up there are covered in. Its possible, and weve seen it,to return to an area you have walked or ridden over only to find it still hasnt returned back to its normal state many months later.

Heather bash down the lower slopes on the local hills you venture out onto but dont think that because you havent been skidding down a mountain side in the Cairngorms, that the tyre track will recover. It probably wont.

Quite a few failed around there. If it was my own motolite i would clean it up,find out what resin/glue to buy, drill a few holes and pop rivet on the underside of the bridge either side after bonding! worth a go before ditching it.I wouldnt attempt it on anyones frame but my own? would love to have a bash at sorting a motolite stay.

“Make a note of the weather in those pics. I piss my pants at all these people over here riding monster truck bikes…”

Well the one up here owned by epicyclo gets ridden around the puffer course in the snow more than anyone else in the area on normal wheels so theres a time and a place.

That time and a place is called winter in the highlands of scotland!

140/100mm. the sooner folk start churning out bikes set up like this, the better.Everytime i like the look of a bike or try a bike.. i want to fit a longer fork than standard.Over the past 5 years theres been quite a few frames that ride chit with the same amount of travel up front as the rear, only to be bettered by fitting what they said wouldnt work.

cherokee jeans? i`m the opposite shape to you and the £22 jeans they sell fit better than anything ive ever bought!Bought another pair and might buy a third pair as once they go,the search for jeans that fit “like the ones you used to own” can take decades!!

Doddy can ride a bike. End of. why does he always get questioned on stuff when out of all the mountain bike magazine journo folk.. theres not many out there that can do what he does on two wheels. Cant folk pick on someone else that is pretty lame on a bike? *Matt from STW not included as ive seen him ride at the aviemore euro ss champs and he too could show a lot of them a thing or two!

Handy for big rides but rides from the house i take a phone,a set of allen keys and the music player.I think ive had 2 punctures in the last 6 years. Most of that has been tubeless mind you.On cold days i like my clothing to be working well too.The camelbak restricts how the layers work. Last nights ride i returned home warm and dry.Very comfortable. The same layering used with a backpack leaves me returning home damp in places.

Freeagent has been around. They have been selling here for years.I know someone that got a limo(2009 i think) and compared to my team issue haro it felt oddball. The bb felt quite high compared to my own bike. A few others agreed on it not feeling as good.jump on a few bikes before you buy as some look the part but might not feel the best for you.unlike mtb the angles and design of race frames/bikes could all look so similar.i would get to the track and ask for a wee blast of a few.

woke up this morning and felt like i was getting a real sore throat kicking in. its nearly gone now. every other day for the past 4-5 weeks ive had the same as you. Lots of other folk popping into the shop along with my brother has had or has this same sort of virus. The other day i had a tickly throat and couldnt stop coughing. Its settled down now and moved onto the sore throat. Folk seem to be affected in slightly different ways.
