I started with a 2006 honda cbr 125r.I decided to splash out on it to get more riding time behind me while i was waiting to do the direct access.I was happy i got it,hassle free and i knew i wouldnt lose much money on it.I lost 300 quid which i could have easily lost if i bought a piece of junk, plus it was great on fuel with fairy good handling.

The thing is,it was a 33 mile commute on a fairly fast road with a climb of around 1000ft so the ascents were a struggle (13+ stone!)to the point where you would consider it dangerous. You need to get up to speed quickly to be safe and with a 125 in (what you say) busy traffic,i would get something as powerful as possible within the regs.Maybe a restricted 500/600cc would be a bit more grunty but i would consider the traffic level on your trip and think twice about the bike you plan to go for.
Varaderos look like a nice riding position.Would be a nice bike to learn U turns on! Not sure how much slower these would be over a cbr 125 though.

As good as a bike the suzuki bandit may be,the size and weight of one when i first put my leg over it scared me.The thought of owning and learning on one would put me off motorcycling. The cbr had a lot less power but it wasnt a handful.

Sram rear mechs have more often than not been like this over the past 12 years.Nothing has changed.

If you remove the mech and fit a shimano (or a campag, just for the hell of it) you will probably find that it will look well aligned under any of the cassette sprockets.

Pack them. They arent rotating so take no heed of the blurb above.

If the above poster thought out of the box and into reality.. they would see that many mountain bikers could easily spray the hose against the shields when washing the bike down.So filled with grease is the way to go in non rotating pivot bearings in frames.

As far as deteriorating grease behind the shields is concerned, its a nicer thought knowing theres grease in there and not some void to hold water, dirt and rust.

I always push the clutch pedal down.It can help on the colder days with older cars that rely on that little extra to get it up and running. Before i got a new starter (around 180k) i most deffo had to do this to get the car started.

“Changing gear like your life depends on you going from 3rd to 4th in less than 1/10th of a second”

OK OK i have to admit that this is why i was late for work last week.3rd to 4th was a bit too ham fisted and i lost a gear linkage rod.

I have had the blurred vision thing about 4 times now.I think they have all happened when looking at a monitor. It gets so bad that the letters i focus on arent even there.I have to look about an inch in some other direction to make it possible to read.I usually drink a lot of water with a few pain killers, put earplugs in,lights out and lay down for at least a few hours.

The raging headache ones have only happened a few times.

Oh thats a blinged up version.Looks very nice.My one is pretty much standard.

Have you tried it with around half an inch more sag up front and around 5mm over the recommended point on the indicator for the rear? super plush but still feels efficient. It deffo feels better corrnering/descending with lower pressure than recommended. Could probably say that about a 1001 bikes these days i`m sure.

Ive just noticed how long this thread is.Why do the same folk keep wasting their time argueing about so much stuff on this forum? The stress/high blood pressure caused by non biking threads must be incredible on this forum!

Close the website, leave it for a few weeks and …just,do something ffs!

Cairngorm.Reached the Ptarmigan about 6.05pm.Not sure if i missed the worst of it or if the worst was to come.It seemed that the strongest winds were just north of Aviemore. The top of the traverse was frightening. The snow fence has been blown out (not sure if this happened today) but i was worried that it might kick up as i walked up past it.The wind seemed not too strong at that point but its once you come out of the traverse where the top of the M1 starts that it hits you. After reaching the Ptarmigan and taking a few pics and vids on the north facing side of the building it seemed to get worse by around 6.15pm. It started snowing so i decided not to hang around, waited for it to ease a bit and went for it.Got to the top of the traverse (wind chill from the ptarmigan to the top of the traverse hit in so quick) and managed to get down out of the point where the constant windspeed was at its worst.

In those winds, even a waterproof Ortlieb rucksack rolled over as well as possible couldnt keep the rain out.The drawcords on the hood of the jacket seemed fine on the way up but the hardware on the cords dont work at all in those windspeeds. The hood was cinched down to the max and the wind still got in and pulled everything open when walking head on into the wind. You would need caliper brake cable pinch bolts tightened down to keep them in place! God knows which jackets have pull cords that work in real extreme winds as they all seem to have similar plastic lock-off bobbins.

Was nice to walk up and down without bumping into anyone, though.

Its not very cool wearing supposedly cool 80s clothes if you dont have experience of what it was all about in the first place, though!

Like wearing a powell t-shirt.. but not quite a powell peralta t-shirt,not knowing any different.

If you run a 9 speed cassette with a 10 speed chain,on a 10 speed chainset and a 10 speed dynashift front mech.. you can shift with a 9 speed l/h unit and have no problems.(so 9 or 10 will be fine for left hand shifters)

Because the 9 speed cassettes width is the same as the 10 speed, and the width of the chain coupled with the distance between the front mech plates has been designed to work together, you wont experience excess rubbing in the extremes.

Good stuff.Aye its filthy mud here today.Ive just put the original tyres on it and removed the bonty mud-xs that have been on the this bike and the hardtail for what seems like 8 months! You cant win.Sliding around in the ruts was awful without the mud x.

If Lorenzo was in Pedrosas position i recon he would have gone in to the corner more committed, hung off the bike and stuck it with maybe a bit of contact.
I thought it was a fairly clean move at the time.
