“DONT-you-tell-me-slow-down.. I-wasnt-hitting-ninety-driving-like-a-clown. My-speedo-has-figures-going-off-the-dial.. itsjustapitymyFerrari`s so un-ver-sa-TILE!”
martinxyzFree MemberThat was just said in the PH comments. They pogo around to Intergalactic at the end of the clip.
martinxyzFree MemberYou could advertise “child hood” for sale.It will sell in an instant to some of us oldies on here having forgotten about it decades ago ;O)
martinxyzFree Memberweetabix 4-5
cornflakes i have in a mixing bowl with just under a pint of milk in it.If that gives you an idea!
martinxyzFree Member“I don’t think there’s anyone I wouldn’t want to meet. I know plenty of people who are absolutely lovely IRL but total nobbers as soon as they get within three feet of an Internet connection.”
Haha! Yes i would agree on that one. If someone says something on here they have 15 mins to go back on what they just blurted out. If they decide not to, then it confirms the nobber in them, myself included.
No point in pretending to be nicey nicey in real life when its all here to be seen on stw ;O) (again, myself included.I could easily be that nicey nicey person thats a total nobber off here)
I cant think of anyone i would like to meet. I wouldnt want to bore them to death.
martinxyzFree Memberand now that its been talked about on tinternet its on the rise. 😕 Good job i put the bike in the boot.. and drive real fast from suspicious folk tailing me from trail centres.
Thats a lie.I dont go to trail centres.
martinxyzFree MemberI checked the tensions on a pair of flow hoops earlier and i would honestly say that if you decide to use the flow you would have to be very hamfisted to go cranking it all up to a higher tension than hope hoops go out the factory at. If you are asking this question and reading about this issue then I think you should give it a go bit by bit and once you get it into shape and add a bit of tension.. take it along to a shop and get their opinion. By the time you get it to the point where you think its o.k. I recon that it
ll still be a bit under tension after a bit of stressing to be honest but i
m sure you`ll know where to draw the line and seek a second opinion.martinxyzFree MemberHaha brian! I posted a smiley face after my comment but ive only just noticed that it never came up.I moved too fast and it never posted. I think it was this one ” 😀 “
Thats weird.. i showed steve a pic of that reynolds? belt driven moulton earlier (in bicycle buyer) and said “heres a bike brian would like”
Looking forward to getting the spearfish together once i can afford it.. hopefully its not going to be a bike i`ll end up hating.
Oh and theres a 29er cube carbon hardtail just arrived/built up. One of three in the country until the new year.Unreal value, steering feels spot on and its a rocketship.Probably partly due to one of the biggest, widest bottom brackets ive ever seen on a hardtail.
martinxyzFree MemberI yearn for the days of fast acceleration and wheels that NEVER implode.
martinxyzFree MemberI was once due half a day holiday in a place i once worked (not a bike shop) The woman that worked out wages/holidays passed the message on to a guy that worked below her to let me know that they wouldnt pay half days, only full days. I asked him why it was o.k. to round down the number of days.. but not round them up. He spoke to her the next day and i recall it going back and forth between the three of us before i said to him that i could show her how to calculate 0.5 of a days wages if its a problem. (head office was 40 miles away)
He got back to me and said they would pay it.
martinxyzFree Member“What a load of waffle, the Five is far from flexy”
Come on! Yeah, and its far from stiff! You know this too well, having owned other bikes. For that reason,i
m out! I
m not going to gurn about it anymore. We will have to agree to disagree. 😀martinxyzFree MemberNo lol.Not justifying it over a 5 at all.I have never seriously considered buying a 5 over what ive bought in the past. I like the zesty for certain things, not everything.I now have this turner flux and enjoy riding it a lot more on easy stuff with its lighter build. If i took it to the likes of Torridon i would be wishing i had the zesty. It seems most folk find it a great climber, some have mentioned it better than a 5. I personally dont think its that amazing. I love descending on it.I think its fairly well sorted. Not sure i`d sell it to get next years version with a shorter wheelbase? It doesnt seem to have much up with it at all.Theres not much i can put my finger on..
Others would probably agree. Its really not a bad egg at all,Flow ;O)

martinxyzFree Member2010-ish the tooling for the press fit bb shells wore out and caused the shells to be bored out a little undersized. Once the bb unit was pressed in.. some split. They found the problem.. its now sorted.
It didnt stop me from buying one. Most manufacturers have problems. If you go narrowing down bikes in the mtb world in that fashion.. good luck, its going to be a long time before you find the safest purchase.
I actually had a wee spin on a 5 earlier and climbed up the road near to where i work. Looking down it was noticeable under load in a silly gear the amount of movement compared to the 514.I was watching the rear fixing bolt for the shock move left to right.Small amounts,yes.. but moving unlike the 514 none the less.
I would still like to maybe try a 5 one day.It feels such a rapid bike and dont get me wrong i may sound like i`m making it out to be flexing around like its a piece of plastic compared to the more three dimentional/triangulated rear ends of frames such as old and new turner 5 spots, giant anthems, trek fuels etc etc but its not that bad.For the girth of it and weight.. its amazing how stiff it is. But after riding other bikes.. nowhere near as stiff.
Just what i`d expect for something thats fixed something like 20 inches away from the rear wheels axle by the main (and only) pivot.
Like other single pivots such as superlights and hecklers.. all that leverage over such a great length will never be stiffened up like the stiffness we will get from the likes of the frames mentioned above.martinxyzFree MemberHold on a minute.
::runs out to the shed to grab the rear wheel of the lapierre and gives it a good tug side to side.. then finds an orange 5 and does the same:::
Hi,i`m back. Yeah.. go for the lapierre. It hardly flexes through the frame at all compared to the 5.Torsionally its like night and day.(why add a maxle option to a stupidly flexy back end lol?)
No shock bush replacement or bearing problems at all in the time ive owned it.. lovely horst rear end.. where do i stop?! ;O)
martinxyzFree Member25 Dainese textile jackets have been made during this double pager!
martinxyzFree MemberHi clive
I worked in f.t.bikes just as you took over Titus. I miss opening frame boxes with ti and exogrid! I always thought Titus would go on for many years to come, getting bigger all the time but ive just had a look on the planet-x site and nothing has changed over the past year (25th Nov to be exact)
I take it Andy is still with you at Axel?
martinxyzFree MemberWell on build quality and quality of materials you would be thinking along the lines of peugeot, citroen or renault.
My first choice wouldnt be to go for a car thats known for great reliability. I choose the drive first. Buy a car for the reasons that will make you happy with the purchase because of the way it will meet your needs. Theres no point in buying a mondeo if people consider it as being great value and reliable if you drive around in it feeling suicidal with how boring it is to you.
You might be looking for that, though.Nothing special.Just a good functional car to get you around.
I`m the opposite.I drive a french piece of crap thats rusty,it leaks on wet and windy days, its always got a wee rattle here and there. Its not great on fuel like my diesel but its the drive that makes me keep a hold of it.
So to answer the question.. the brands of cars that are considered boring and are super reliable.
martinxyzFree MemberSkidding through petrol stations would be funOOOONNNLY JOKING!
We have about 22 pairs in stock right now.
martinxyzFree MemberIve still got a smallblock8 kicking about waiting for my next 29er stint.
martinxyzFree MemberA 29er wheel implosion? A fancy word for what happens to a lightweight 29er wheel that gets hammered or cornered beyond its capabilities by some fat twunt that doesnt know where or when to draw the line on his or hers bikes capabilities ;O)
martinxyzFree MemberFrom now until spring.. Bonty mud x! If i manage to build the spearfish up this winter its getting mud x rubber for sure.
Theres also maxxis beavers in 29.
martinxyzFree MemberHi Daniel
Yeah its a bit dangerous! Lots of pushing but worth having the bike with you to get home once you arrive at Camasunary.martinxyzFree MemberIf you take a right turn at the junction 2 mins before the above pic “starting the descent”.. this is the view from the top of the descent around the corner that takes you down to Achnashellach.

martinxyzFree MemberYer fork has 30ml of green fox 10wt in the spring side oil bath and the same again in the damper side oil bath.
The damper is something more precise like 35.5 ml or something but you probably wont be going there.
The top left (remove the air cap after deflating) needs 5ml of fox gloop poured in. (fox fluid)
martinxyzFree Member“but I can’t ride it till I get a stem…that is’nt coming till January 1st.
AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH”Dont sit around waiting for the post on new years day. They wont be dropping by!
martinxyzFree MemberReality of the roads can be stressful enough without watching it from someone elses camera! A wicker basket full of soggy tomatoes is where its at. No chat.. Just a slap of tomato in the drivers face when they wind the window down. They wont chase after you.You could even continue the journey as if nothing had happened. :OD
martinxyzFree Member3 mins to brush teeth
12-ish mins in the showerTheres a foreign lass that works in the shopping centre here that approaches me whenever i go there to see if she can get me to try some hand paste stuff from god knows where. I have a laugh and tell her that it really is a complete waste of time as i have oil or brake fluid on my hands most days so it probably wont work.. but she still tries to get me to rub this stuff into ma paws. I keep explaining that ive told her in the past about the oil and brake fluid and she keeps forgetting.
I wonder if this gritty natural hand cream she tries to sell me is affecting her memory. Hmmm.
