I had one on for around 6 years without removing it but a broken hand riding down Fyrish made me remove it.. only i couldnt. The doctors got pissed off and someone finally managed to pop the pin out for the xray.

I didn’t bother refitting it as its permanently changed the shape of my wrist in one place. Not to mention the rust always on my wrist.

Hopefully. It would be nice if it was for Torridon mtn rescue :OD but as long as something was going somewhere other than the norm then that’s good enough for me. Black with the red zip is just like the Marmot one I have had for the past few years though :O/

“check him out.. he still has that same jacket on from 2009” Och,who cares!

From the early days of Dirt I really enjoyed the mix of mtb with a bit of bmx thrown in together. There was always going to be something related to bmx in each issue.. and i like that. It can still be found in it and it will probably never leave.
For someone that hasn’t been into mountain biking for 5 or so years, they might find it of no interest to them. Some might skip to the next article and think nothing of it,others might frown and start taking out their anger because of their lack of knowledge on the history of mountain biking and pick on the grammar ;O) This really doesn’t faze me if its something i enjoy reading about.

People,bikes,parts,races.. anything to do with the “good old days” in mtb or bmx could be thrown in there and for someone that hasn’t lived in that era.. some of it is going to confuse them. For the people that have lived through it,it might bring a smile to their face. Spotting these little pieces thrown in i just don’t think anything of it. I might know who, where or what they might be on about when it comes to the older stuff but looking at it from another side, there’s often new school stuff I don’t have a clue about. I wont make a song and dance about it,though.. I just accept that I haven’t been there all the way through.Possibly because I chose not to hit the DH races as much as other folk around me have done over the years amongst other things.

I don’t buy magazines, they appear. I cant remember the last Dirt magazine I bought but the last issue I read had Chaussons interview in it. I enjoyed that. To read about her possibly making a comeback made me chuckle. The thought of the look on some of todays female dh stars faces when they first read about this would have been priceless. Without knowing who the hell she is.. or what all she had accomplished,it would probably be quite boring to many newbies i’d guess. Was that the issue with a tyre test? Out of the tyres I have ridden in that test i never expected to agree with the things said. The reason being, i consider myself a crap rider and coming from folk that could probably descend way more than twice the speed of me in mud.. it was nice to be able to read about them and know what they were on about having ridden them.

As for the way paragraphs are laid out,the colours used etc. Does it really get yer goat that much? Yes,yellow and white is a bit mind numbing but I wouldn’t give up on something if i was enjoying it.

If you were brought up reading R.A.D magazine (bmx action bike)in the 80’s/90’s then Dirt would be a piece of p1ss to read. You don’t know how easy you’ve got it!

Probably. I have a few vids of flying squirrels floating for minutes at a time in a stiff breeze.

Yeah they can often feel fine but if the pads wear right down and the pistons need cleaning before pushing them back into the bores then you might find it a bit tricky getting them flush into the bores.. then the bleed shows how bad the fluid is.

You should flush them out a few times to clean any crap out of them as i have also seen scoring on metallic parts in the lever along with worn out seals. New fluid to get rid of all the old crap can only help with how long these small parts will last. Saving you money in the long run. The parts don’t come cheap.

These are the only brakes I have come across that really suffer more than any other brake. If someone has a shimano or hope brake on their bike for 2 years and never serviced the brakes.. they usually feel fine. They will be in need of new fluid but nothing seems to get contaminated like k18’s.

You bleed them and more often than not find that the fluid is like milk. Often filthy too. Maybe its the conditions around the highlands,i’m not sure.

To be honest these folk are neglecting their bikes, not just the brakes. I would still say that the K18 dies a bit sooner due to neglect than anything else i have seen.

Remove the mech and check the alignment of the hanger. It could have been bent out of the box.

I hope the fellow with the dodgy hub manages to find the answers to his problem amidst the argument over a part of a hub that might not even be faulty at all. 🙄

Thanks guys sounds a dead cert its the bearings then?

No,its not a dead cert. You have found play so (putting all this rough/worn bearing pish aside and getting to the point of the OP)lets find out if its the bearings or the possibility of a dodgy bored out body.

First of all you need to get the body off and find out if the bearings (both 61802’s) are a poor fit in the body (the 61902 in the other end of the body has never been a problem that i have seen) If the old ones come out easily, pop a new bearing in on its own and see if you can remove it easily. The one i had was so loose you could pretty much chap the bearings out without pulling them out.If this is the case,i would call Hope and let them know that they are a poor fit to see what they can come up with.

If this is the problem then once it gets sorted, you can then pop the new body on with new bearings and see how it feels tightened in the dropouts.

If it were my own hub I personally wouldn’t remove the shell bearings if the above work solved the problem.

Save yourself around £12 quid and extra work if they are doing their job perfectly at only 8 months old.

I replaced bearings in a pro 2 body and shell once and the bearings came out of the body very easily. The new ones went in with my thumb and i continued to build it to see how it felt in the frame once tightened. The play was still there with all bearings replaced so the body was at fault.

It’s about 40 mins from here so i thought i would drive down the loch and start at Fort Augustus.

I only planned to go to the top and come back the same way but wow.. what a boring ride. I remember a nice area where i crossed a bridge and a bit of scenery behind me (over loch Ness) near the start of the ride but i don’t think i will ever drive down again. Theres far nicer/better rides on both sides of loch Ness without going all the way down and starting the ride of doom.

Honestly, i cant remember any other ride in my biking years that bored me like this one. I was yawning and thinking about turning back half way to the top.

Heh,sorry! I was looking at Canon camera’s the other night and got a wee bit more of an idea on their range! I would love to splash out on one but the thought of prices of lens and everything else throws a spanner in the works. This pic of the bee is amazing. Which lens was used for this?

If i cant put them on by hand i use a pump.

Chemicals cause problems. Paint flakes and is probably the silliest idea ever to be put in a big mag (mbuk 5 years ago?)glue is good for heated grips on motorbikes (hence getting a tube WITH the grips)and electrical tape goes into a soggy mush after a year or two. I wish folk would quit doing this.. its a nightmare to remove off their bikes!

    Moose/ODI do motorcycle grips.

Tets,i had a pair of a319’s built up on a bike and they seem fairly bombproof. For the extra weight.. i reckon you would be more than happy with the strength of them.

719/319..both of these made by the mighty Mavic should see you through everything you throw at them.

Well, more than just about anything else!

Just found this on the salsa site.

Side Note: Wheel’s Manufacturing also makes an adapter cup for running 24mm spindle cranks on BB30 bottom brackets. This adapter will not technically work on a PFBB30 bottom bracket. The Wheel’s cups are sized to rest directly against BB30 bearings. SRAM’s PFBB30 bottom bracket has those fancy seals and dust caps, not to mention the bearings themselves are in a *slightly* different location in the BB. If you were to install the Wheel’s Mfg adapters on the PFBB30 bottom bracket, the overall width is about 3.3mm wider than the width the cranks are designed to install across.

So problem solvers adaptors it is then..

Thanks folks. Stato, its this “i have solved it” bit i am not keen on. We shouldn’t be solving anything. I am not having a go at you or the way you got around it all, its just something that shouldn’t be a problem in 2011/12!

I have fitted a pfbb30,10 spd xt chainset and wheels manufacturing adaptors to one a while back and although it shifts very well and is causing the owner no problems at all, I seem to remember the preload being a bit of a pain when fitting the chainset.Probably the sram unit with the xt chainset. I cant remember exactly what all was put in there but i do remember it not being straight forward.

What i do remember is that I didn’t fancy an issue with the chainset/bb unit on my own bike before it even leaves the workstand. These parts should go together with no issues these days.. but it seems that there’s a few baw aches around with this bb diameter.

Im peeved as my 12 year old Golf estate Tdi (90bhp)was thrashed every day and never fell below 47mpg

My car is a year older than this, same engine, same horsepower.. not thrashed but i have continued to get great fuel economy over the years. In the magazines it seemed one of the most economic at the time with something like 62mpg/74mpg! I mostly cruise it up to speed without trying to get there as fast as possible and it averaged out approx 60mpg before xmas. There was a few moments thrown in there too so its still doing amazing for getting close to 1/4 of a million miles!

To the OP.. my car was still feeling tight around 50k. I remember after 60-65k it felt a lot better. I bought mine with 23k come to think of it.. so there you go!

We wont go the route of suspension forks to sort out the stem flexing in the direction we don’t want as that problem wont come around in the first place. Its possible to sort all those issues out (more so now with a-head and not quill) so lets see what happens.

I say Mr Frankz ::looks down to polish his monocle without looking up:: I do believe you need a hefty dose of MTFU.

    ;O)Kidding.

Nah,a quality seatpost and stem to take away the buzz would be great. After my mountain bike (26 inch wheels) I would prefer a cyclocross bike with this new fangled post and stem than the full bounce 29er as my 2nd bike.
