What size of boot? I have Sidi Vertigo’s in a box,uk7 (upgraded to another Sidi so these have sat for ages) but could post them down if you don’t want to splash out on stuff. You wouldn’t really be wanting to do the cbt in full enduro kit so these would be a start! Yes, size 7 is probably too small but worth a mention.

Yep,not many folk fit alloys to their pugs when looking for performance. C5 steelies are cheap, light and.. alloy! Beware of certain types though as some of them had problems. Pug forums have the odd thread on which of the steelies are the lightest Inc weights and codes of the exact wheel if you plan on buying them. Even my 106 alloys feel like they weighed a ton compared to a pressed steelie. Also consider how well a struts spring and damper will work at with a light wheel on there compared to something weighing 3kg+ extra! Many folk on the pug forums report a different handling with those c5 alloys. One of them being a well known engine builder whose right into his pugs. You should be able to find out which steelies to go for on a ford forum with ease. They’ll probably cost around 45 quid each or buy them for peanuts 2nd hand. Maybe some pug steelies will fit (same pattern) although the offset will be different (any wheel experts care to correct me there if I’m wrong?)

I had 17″ momo’s on another car and have since gone back to the original steels as they weigh nothing compared to the momo’s. Even at £800+ they made the car drive like a barge. One thing though, the contact patch and quality rubber was amazing.

It would be interesting for you to get weights of those 18’s compared to something like 16 steelies with monster rubber fitted. Far nicer drive than 40/45’s. Also, check out the price of a decent tyre in the profile you need and consider getting shot of theold ones before they wear out completely and become worthless. Sell them now with the wheels or expect to pay 500+ for half decent tyres.

Mates mate has some amazing Tattoo’s. One of his arms he’s got his dad’s face and other nice stuff. Pretty sure he’s based in Glasgow and his work is more pleasing to my eye than any von crap or whoever else I’ve come across.

It’s like he’s a really good artist first and foremost. Not like he’s great with how he uses his tools and fairly good at drawing on folk ;O) I’ll try and get back with his name..

Here’s a few things to ponder.

We have all been taught to follow one set of rules – The Highway Code. Courtesy often causes problems. The driver waiting to pull out was no doubt thinking that their manoeuvre is going to take place after you pass to their right. They have no intentions of pulling out until this takes place and its clear to go.

When people get waved out of junctions, anxiousness kicks in and their brains have to work a little overtime to deal with what’s ahead. It ends up making the manoeuvre harder as the courteous driver will be sitting and blocking the view of what’s to their left (not in your case on a scooter*) so they now have a more dangerous manoeuvre at hand due to your courtesy. They want to pull out quickly so can then make your own manoeuvre but it can often lead to people making the wrong decisions and causing accidents.

Mr Jag may well be a very good driver but approaching from behind he too may have got confused with how both of you were going about your manoeuvres as described in the highway code and thought that the other car driver is LAST to get priority at this junction.. YOU weren’t moving… and to make everything actually happen, his split second reaction may have been to go around you.

He might reflect on it and realise what he had done, and when you describe the story of him repeatedly saying ‘you were stopped’,this probably led to his error as his mind was thinking that drivers on the main road need to pull in first to let the driver filtering out on their way.

It’s your courtesy that has led to confusion. Its a shame,Peter.. but this is what happens when the next driver behind isn’t taking it as easy as he should to think about it all and just assumes that he needed to get into that road to enable the car to move out.

Again, maybe he IS an arse and was proving a point. That your decision to let the other car out ends up causing other problems.

Dez,old school concrete has a certain something over all the polished perfection of today’s parks. It’s not perfect but that looks like a place I could skate and ride all day long. Where is it?

edit: Anyone remember Holywell bay skatepark near Newquay? I loved that mini ramp that tapered steeper as it got further down the hill. Flat banked with big rounded off lips too. I heard it all got knocked down many years ago.

In school (about 89) my tech teacher let me make a 7 ply board. I broke it and we tried making another. It also broke so he let me make the third out of mahogany veneer! Nowhere near as strong as canadian maple but it lasted fairly well. I got a concave into it,a rocker, a tail and a slight nose to it as well. I shaped, stained and yacht varnished it after copying some Alva graphics and painting it on.

I wouldn’t bother trying to make another board for attempting tricks on. I think it would break easily but I’d deffo give a long board a go as it’s not going to take a lot of abuse. That looks great,Psyc!

It’s how everyone’s thinking right now. Just about to go to bed.. before starting another week of the daily grind. ;O)

I never go on holiday. I can’t be bothered dealing with the hassle (i know it could probably be no hassle at all if it was done right, but I’d consider it a right hassle no matter what!) so I just laze about here in the highlands and go biking locally. On a nice day I could be in heaven on the bike, over the west, listening to my music.. pottering along at my own pace. Not a soul in sight. All for the price of fuel (7 quid if that) and a few energy bars to keep me going.

Todays ride was only 19 miles from home and I rode some new singletrack that brought me out onto a beach. A beach I have been on many times but the trail spat me out at a different part of it. I wasn’t expecting to end up so close to the beach as I thought I was further inland so it was quite a nice surprise to be greeted with the scene, blue sky, nobody around, some very fitting music.. and a warmth in the air that nobody was really expecting today. Again,£5 quid fuel and 2 energy gels.

    :::shrugs::: :O/ :O)

I do actually hold a couple of KOMs (and a couple of CRs for running), but they’re all for sections where I have the only time. Not sections I’ve created though, so what’s that all about? How come somebody has created a section but not set a time on it?

This was getting to me earlier when I was Exploring. One dark night I had to ride north in the lashing rain at some points, and on top of that I forgot my lights so the road was barely visible. This is besides the point.. but I found a climb I rode out of a glen was a segment in the ride and I’m the KOM along with being the only one that’s ridden it. I am a bit embarrassed as theres the main segment slightly shorter than this one on the same climb where all the faster guys have nailed really good times. It looks like I made the segment to enjoy something all on my own! Jeez, all I was doing was riding somewhere to collect my car in the rain,on a climb.. with an electron backupz to light the road up. The time is shocking, too.

If I was as fit as I used to be I’d want to go out and nail all the sections around here with 100% effort. It’s competitiveness that still lurks in me. 2 stone+ more than what I used to weigh and a lack of strength due to just pootling along over the past 10 odd years doesn’t help either.

I still try hard on some segments. Like,100% effort. I can’t/won’t sustain the burn for the rest of the ride but It’s nice to know it should (hopefully) be recorded so that I can see how I come on over the years.. or drop off.

Anyone that says they’d have no interest recording certain sections of road or mtb rides to look back on in years to come just baffle me! I would guess these people to have no competitiveness lurking inside and have probably never raced a bike.

Stopped once in Kent (again in a company car) averaged 96 over 4 miles! for some reason I got let off. Was very contrite and didnt argue so maybe that’s it.

To ride, feed yourself properly, travel and finish rides before dark.. you will have to be nailing everything spot-on! Good luck. The roads can be slow with having to pull in to let others pass (some days you could find a drive from Loch Carron to Torridon taking a lot longer than you’d expect after looking at the distances online etc. It gets tiring having to stop and start over and over.

I once parked at the top of Glen Brittle and rode half way over to Sligachan before hiking up the hill on the left (other side of the track from the black Cuillin) and pitched the tent before waking up to an amazing sunrise along with all those wicked mountains. I then rode back round to Brittle on the road. Not much of an mtb adventure but I’d rather do this again than the sligichan to Camasunary ride.

and of course the reply to us talking about it in this way will only make them think we are a bunch of fat keyboard warriors slating it. This is true on my part. I take it the film was put together with the intentions of it being better than all previous stuff as far as riding, scenery etc goes. I just commented the way I have above as that’s my views on it. It’s old hat,the bmx clip shows what’s happening on two wheels elsewhere in the world right now and it truly is riding worth watching that blows this away.

I know those guys would say something like ‘well this is the way mtb is right now and people want to watch what we’re doing right this minute’ but if the progression over the past 10 or so years has come to this.. then to get my fix of wow factor I will have to continue watching bmx.

…and the natural world repeats ;O)

    Well I’m old,and haven’t missed anything.

Well, I lie. It streamed from 58mins so I missed the start. With the hype around it I thought I’d give it a go. I don’t normally watch this sort of stuff, the last was early stuff from some of the rampage events and I think I watched a bit of new world disorder when it came out. This bored me. Amazing scenery, well filmed and It looks so much fun drifting down those gulleys in the sand. Some of the backflips were monsterous and they amaze me how they can get the courage up to go for it. Some guys. The under or over-rotated 360’s are the tricks that bore the hell out of me,though. Its so hard to watch over and over when we’ve seen similar on mtb’s 10 years ago.

The best bit was the interview with Drew Benzanson telling lies by agreeing that the bmxer’s help out the mtb’ers and vice versa lol. He’ll be stoked on the big hucks but ughh, just watch this and ask yourself just how inspired Drew Bezanson can be when he’s doing stuff like this! It’s near impossible for the guy to get inspired from mtb’ers doing tricks that the likes of Hoffman and Wilkerson were doing 23 years ago (backflips/2hip contests)

Here’s some real jaw dropping 2 wheeled action for those that enjoy bicycle stunts. Find a series of Natural World with David Attenborough if you need a bit of a scenery fix.

I chose 100mm drop as my old post is 100mm and I feel its more than enough for 95% of the riding I do. There will be the odd time I would want to slam the whole thing right down but very rarely. The next biggest reason is that at full extension I’m a bit wary of the slim upper shaft at full extension on a 125. I just have this idea that the 100mm extension might hold up better in it’s lifetime over a 125mm. It just looks a bit dodgy when you see 125’s at full length. It’s only a small amount but,well..you never know ;O)

    Just a thought!
