I am amazed at a massively dented headtube on a carbon frame that’s selling for £499 on that site.

I’m running 1×10 and getting confused by every 2nd tooth of my Hope ring getting worn. It’s a case of one tooth silver, one tooth still black ano.. one tooth silver..

    What’s that all about?

I had one run along in front of me in the car last year and instead of darting off into the ferns,it stopped at the side of the road, turned around and gave the car a bit of attitude! I had one run along in front of me night riding offroad a while back but it managed to get out of the way without making a fuss.. although riding up a steep climb in the dark down Loch Ness with a very low setting on the front light (along with the silence of the road bike) enabled me to ride up to,and alongside a badger foraging at the roadside without it knowing I was riding past it.

Either deaf as fek or blind.. maybe a bit of both!

It can often happen when we put wear into a drive and without ever really using the granny from new,it’s only when we drop down into a fresh granny we find that the worn chain doesn’t want to play ball with it.

Folk will get confused with this and go replacing a ring that seems to be the problem when it’s actually as good as new.

Take a good look at everything and see if you can make any sense of the wear in all the parts.

I think I have experienced this with a set in the past. They were fairly new but had to go back for a wee bit of work. Can’t remember what it was that went wrong.

    Sorry.

Yes,It’s amazing how many people think that the majority of people that walk in to a bike shop know of crc.

I have seen this/read this quite a bit.

Not just people on here,It’s also shop owners that have convinced themselves that poor trade is because 80% of cyclists are now sitting at home buying from crc.

There’s a good ride that starts at Chisolms Bridge and heads in a counter clockwise loop that skirts around Am Meallan. They only thing is, there’s a bit of a river crossing further up in the hills. You Will no doubt get wet feet! There’s also about 3 gates to hoist the bike over. Once 3/4’s of the way round, you are greeted with some of the best scenery in Scotland overlooking Loch Affric (from above the Lodge) before tackling the loose,rocky-ish argocat type track back down to Affric Lodge.

I tried it out years ago to see what it was like having spotted it on the map. Not sure if anyone else has been round with a bike but I enjoyed it a lot as the scenery is great and you really get away from it all by heading up there.

Beware – It is an old school type of ride. Don’t expect groomed trails or Torridon style walkers tracks all the way around.. and like I said, you will be crossing a river further up so depending on how deep it is.. you might want to turn back!
There’s a few soggy sections, the river crossing further up and the bike lifting at the gates but it doesn’t stop me from going back for more.

Just found the real answer to the cd in the mirror thing..

It’s so when speed cameras try to catch your car the CD’s reflect the sun back into the cameras to blind them. Clever I’ll admit but also illegal 🙂

Now that’s been replaced by cars with hi-viz vest/jackets on parcel shelves. WTF ??

:O) That, and the white hard hats placed on the parcel shelf.

‘o.k, I’m off to work but FIRST.. I must open the rear door (or tailgate) and place my white hard hat on the parcel shelf’ Instead of chucking it in the kin passenger floorwell?!

Having music on solo night rides will kill off the heebiegeebieitis. Silent solo’s let the mind wander (more so if there’s been talk of big cats in the area)

they work well in mud and on roots

Aye, I thought the same. Deffo going to get some for my 26 inch wheeled bike. Wet rocks, roots seemed a piece of cake on the 29 HD up front but I wasn’t sure of the compound. If it was pacestar,I’m impressed!

I rode down the south side of Loch Ness yesterday. I have a mirror and spotted a car approaching. I have to admit I don’t always keep out as far as most of you aim for but the road where the car passed me was fairly wide (enough for a bus to pass me safely) but the dottled old goat cruised past about 40-45 and nearly clipped me. Some folk don’t get it. They pass after slowing down but still do it very close.

This is why I love riding offroad without having to worry about these things.

I’m picturing him flat on the floor having been skelped over the back of the head with a heavy pan.. whilst watching that clip (full volume, which attracted the OH to the computer room in the first place)

..and now SHE is reading all this, possibly about to reply any minute now.

Can this be used with the likes of a Garmin to race against peoples times/routes? I have just bought an edge 500 and was thinking about taking someones route from Strava and putting it into the Garmin the other night but I’m crap with all this new fangled technology,so I gave up.

Yeah, but on here it’s not about controlling the tongue. It’s to do with other things that make someone who they are.. and if they can’t adjust something that shouldn’t have been said within 15 minutes I think it shows a lot about someone. (not aiming that at you or freddib!)

Which skewers have you used? Another easy thing to knock off the list would be to remove bottle cages/bolts (Not something I have found in the past but with it being so easy, maybe worth firing them off)

I am 39, the other night I had a max of 195bpm doing sprints and the latest resting was around 45bpm.

Going back to when I was around 24yrs old, my max was often around 204bpm and resting around 50bpm.

I expected the max to be around 180ish 15 years on. Should I be worried?

None at all if it’s smooth and if it’s not there are too many factors to consider to be able to say that one wheel size will always beat another.

    Cheers

    Andy

None at all? Bull. Like I have said over and over about my findings with getting on far better on 26 over 29 accelerating from near standing starts on steep technical climbs.. down to long slow drags that are often smooth firetracks, the effort to accelerate the 29ers I have owned and the 29er bikes I have tried all feel and ride slower at slower paces. I’m still wondering why nobody can feel this over a 26″ wheeled bike on the same terrain.

Real steep terrain that nearly has you off pushing, coupled with large rock gardens that blow the theory of a big wheel rolling over them better will slow the bike (either 29 or 26″) down to very slow speeds. I find accelerating the smaller 26 up and over sections that cannot be powered over with one long constant power output so much easier on the 26. It really doesn’t baffle me why this is so. It’s a smaller wheel, I’d expect it to accelerate from slower speeds with ease over a 29,and it certainly feels like it does.. and it appears to DO SO when I jump back and forth betweeen my 26 and 29 inch wheeled bikes.

A lot of people can’t seem to feel or see this when putting it into practice. They don’t seem to grasp that it’s easier to accelerate from near standing start efforts on the 26″ wheel over a larger wheel. The blurb has blinded them when it’s there to be felt and noted in practice and there to be seen on paper if anyone was to go all scientific on how a larger wheel accelerates slower than a smaller wheel.

One of the reasons why I chose to take a 20″ wheel bmx to a road hill climb once and won, because of the course being so tight and twisty with corners that pulled you down to around 5mph.

would the 2.2d not be quicker in many situations? It’s not every drive you’d be wanting to reach the vtec zone in the type r but the diesel would be on par with it on the likes of twisty roads with shorter straights in between. Would it kick in sooner and easily keep up on this type of road? I quite fancy one of the older diesel models.

Edit: I mean a drive that’s not flat out point to point where the type r would win hands down. Just a brisk drive but not going hell for leather?

I love merino at work.. or just messing about. On the bike it’s rapidly dropped to my least fav bit of kit ever. Icebreakers in different types, lidl’s crevit ss, M&s ls.. I get wet in them with ease no matter which combo of other layers I use. Like someone mentioned above, they get wet and if you have to stop it gets bloody cold. Just fished out an old Endura mid layer I bought about 10 years ago and after mondays ride with it under a gore windstopper and nothing else (10c dropped to 6.5c by the final descent back home) I was still warm. I reckon I’d have been half way to hypo if I had my merino on for the last 15 mins of foggy descending. The Endura is something like 80% nylon,20% lycra. One piece of kit I’m glad I never binned.
