My mother reckons when we went to Guernsey many years ago that the crossing was nearly cancelled due to high winds but they decided to go for it. Many folk decided not to go but we did. She recalls it as being force 11. I thought they said 10. Was sick after a few hours but it was fun trying to walk about!

I was at Thurso East yesterday. A rare swell chart sent me storm chasing and what better location than one of, if not the best spot in the U.K. for a spot of poor quality filming! It was never going to be perfect but to witness those shelves getting a 25-30ft swell was something I couldn’t miss. Check the bus swallowing wave near the end around 3:07.

The beast that is Thurso East..

I’m picturing a jester in spd’s. Maybe they have the same attitude as the fellow on the other thread when the oldies let it hang out in the changing rooms. ‘Fechin mountain bikers.. why do they stop and speak to me?.. If I left the dog at home they wouldn’t stop!’

    Thanking you!

Which bike were you riding before?

If you put another spacer in there then you wont be able to locate the stopper plate pin into the axle. If you remove it, it will still be wrong as there wont be enough axle inside the l/h crank arm.

I’m not sure how a Skyline or an Impreza fits into the small car category. The only thing I can think of that matches what you ask for is a clio 197, give or take a few bhp. With whatever exhaust is the best bet for an extra 10hp or so, surely this is what has to be on the shortlist? It’ll possibly come with an uprated exhaust and also a few other subtle tweaks I would have thought.

That’s what I was thinking but the l/h arm still jams up in the plastic adaptor so there’s no point in bothering with finding the right washers until he gets an E version of whatever bb is needed.

Edit: and once the right bb is in there, the washers might not be needed.

Edit 2: Pick up a pair of HT2 arms and bb for peanuts and don’t waste any more of your life faffing with square taper!

You don’t sing ‘I want to be a part of it!’ as you waltz through the hallway on your way to showing the tradesmen the problem at hand, do you?

and my car has 3-4 different brake pads (front) with 2 sets the same shape but different thicknesses.

Online this would be a pain and very expensive returning stuff. I would buy locally. You’ll be amazed at how cheap they’ll be from the motor factors.

My discs were £80 a pair a few years ago (vented) but last month they were only £60. Pads were around £20. You’ll be £20 postage returning the wrong discs!

Here’s about 30 pics of the steps from start to finish of a K2 Zeppelin 164 I split near the end of December. I have had the flu since last sunday so it’ll be a while before I get to try it out. :O/

Ben Wyvis was looking very well covered as I drove to the doctors earlier. 😐

    Lovely.

Apart from the left one, which snapped.

Come on then, it’s useless without pics!

I think the bulk of the braking force will be taken by the carbon wrap around the IS adaptor mount’s top sideways hole and there won’t be much other stress

    Yeah, I agree.

I still can’t picture any compression at the lower end, though. Even if the forces were in the direction of the blue line* it shows the caliper pulling off the bracket. No compression.

*the blue line and its imaginary force is wrong too, Isn’t it? Maybe I’m wrong but would it not follow the curvature of the disc? Would it not be a shearing force?

So, did you break a sweat trying it out? It would have been clip of the decade if it popped off :OD

I’ve got Cook bros. E cranks that are different to every pair shown on retrobike. Those guys would wet themselves as the ‘cook bros. racing’ laser etching is not 7 inches long down the face but about 1 inch discretely down the back of each arm near the pedal threads.

I was told they were prototypes when I was looking to buy cranks.. and bought them over the phone without seeing them! Still got them in the shed.

Also, the Redline 401’s are the nicest cranks on this thread.

    What do you think Martin?

The way I see it, the caliper pulls away from the mount when the brake is applied. Tension both top and bottom. Whenever I have had a cable operated brake wound up and gripping the disc, it rotates with the wheel and pulls away from the bracket top and bottom.

I’m still fighting to see where folk find it under compression at the bottom fixing.

Your turn, what do you think? :OD

    martinxyz

Just having a think. The forces on the spacer will be acting in the direction of the blue line. This means the top will be in tension and the bottom will be in comprssion.

Do you believe the top and bottom are under tension, Al?

what happened to solo 2nd and 4th?^ and all the other placing in between for that matter? lol

Well I am watching out for Chris Pitblado and Alek Rozin in the solo’s. Riding it together right now but I’d expect them to eventually catch up with the likes of Guy by the end of the race. (someone tell him to ease off a bit!)

Also keeping an eye on Epicyclo and locals to Strathpeffer, Andrew & Ross both riding solo.

Basically all the soloists. The 24hr racers.

Getting to the race is the first step. Drumochter is starting to fill in so getting up and over this part of the A9 is something you might want to think about doing a little sooner than later. Once past Drumochter the road is pretty clear all the way to Strathpeffer/Contin.

I would. I’ve never been a fan of protection for the level I ride at but anything can happen to a mincer like maself. The camelbak idea kept me happy over the years but falling on a back protector with the extended tail.. getting up and finding that you are o.k. to continue as if nothing had happened does it for me.
