I watched a spicks and specks rerun last night and she was on it, next on was the news and her death was covered, was very surreal considering I’d never heard of her until 30 minutes before. Seemed like she died too young…I must look up some of their songs.

Looks like a IIa to me

Here’s a later version of the scenario

I sense that if my legs aren’t working then NO bike is going to be very fast……

It may well have been me Aphex, its bright blue, has a couple of stickers on the rear window.

It’s the Jorgensen park 4 hour race, did it last year and ripped myself to pieces on the gravel, not this year though!

The circuit reminded me of Penmachno, good fun, just not enough flow.

I started off just about 9.20, did the circuit and met perthmtb in the car park at about 11 I think. Loved the ride, took some getting used to riding off road again and getting confidence back after breaking my wrist a few months back. The rocks did my head in (rocky balboa was certainly aptly named!) and gave me a pinch flat. After the obligatory cake I then took my soon around the skills loop and over to the pump track so you might have followed us into Kalamunda about 1 ish Aphex.

Enjoying the rain here it’s very warm, just apply some shower gel before the ride home and your clean when you get there! We had thick fog this morning, very unusual for Perth (WA)

Quite a lot of defenders in the mid/late 90’s were still 3 seaters up front as every man and his dog was selling people cubby boxes to stick in the middle. I can certainly remember driving a early 90’s truck cab on site with 3 seats.

I think the middle seat was phased out some time in the early 2000’s

I’m easy on the time but if its a bit later then it’s better as my wife can take my son to the camel farm and hopefully not be driven mad by him! I’ll be in the noisiest bright blue discovery you’ve ever seen…..

Would 9am be a good compromise?

    A complete cycling lifestyle eh?

If I don’t ascribe to this lifestyle where all my clothes indicate my preferred sports, could I be described as Wardonaut, journeying through several distinct attire regions throughout the course of a day!

I’d leave it original Joe, not sure what effect a disc mount would have on its future longevity, you may also need to get another brace welded in between seat and chainset and the originality goes out of the window….

    Phil,

Log on to MTBR and get onto the RM forum on there. I’ve actually had some great customer service by getting in touch with the factory via that forum. I think it was Alex I emailed and they sent me a chainstay guard FOC.

Your age could be important here, say its a mid life crisis and you think changing the car is more reasonable than looking for a mistress! :D

If that doesn’t wash then just be honest and say you fancy a change….

Edit: safety sells, concern about ageing body structure, airbag age etc

An interesting take on it bob, I think you may have hit upon a new marketing slant for Campagnolo there!

Intersting Digger – I’ve just got a new Wilier with Ultegra on it and I’m still not getting on with the shifting. I thought it was just the 105 shifters on the previous bike but the Shimano action just feels to light for me and the clicks just aren’t positive enough – I’m more often than not under or over the mark when changing down a gear. I guess that 20 odd years of Sram gripshift use has me conditioned to a “bang and you’ve changed gear” kind of action. I’m toying with the idea of a change to Chorus and it sounds like it would work given what you have said (would love an EPS system but that’ll have to wait until teh days of no mortgage or somesuchthing)

No specific training as such here, every time we come up to something my 5 year old son can’t ride, or hasn’t seen before, I get off and I encourage him over/through it with some pointers. We just did some riding last weekend and he quickly became adept at spotting sand that could be ridden through and stuff that would throw you off if you weren’t careful.

I think a strong will to win helps at age 11 – as they’re still not fully developed by then there’ll always be some who are faster as they’ve grwn that little bit quicker, so I’d avoid training sessions and just concentrate on “riding”, technique can be a great leveller….

What I dont get (as a short arse) is why I should pay the same price for my frame as lanky gits

In your case you’re paying for the added lightness, which us lanky gits have to buy a more expensive bike to get :D

The only real downgrade I can see is the shifters, the rest of the spec changes are neither here nor there. I’d go for the Carbon frame personally, there doesn’t seem much compromise to get it. The carbon frame should take a bit more buzz out of the ride and is a shade lighter. You could turn it into quite a light bike with some choice parades in the future.

Nick – I’ve seen some Integrale shells on the internet recently – might have been on a US site though.

I’ve been looking at a Tamiya XV-01 Subaru as a possible winter project, it appears that teh kits are a dying breed though and it’s cheaper to buy teh ready to run models, which is a bit of a shame – I always thought that building it and understanding how it works was half of teh fun….

OKay, I’ll pencil the 20th in. Might be better as I’ve only just started riding 2 weeks ago after fracturing my wrist in Feb, so it should be a bit stronger again by then :)

I’ll see if I can start working a regular Sunday jaunt in to the routine…..

perthmtb – I will check with the family what’s happening, I might just be able to persuade my wife & son to spend some time at the camel farm whilst I have a ride a round, it might have to be half an hour later though if you’re okay with that?

The more I cycle on the road bike over here in Oz the more I think cyclists and drivers are alike. Both groups have characters that want to get on by at any cost, not associating other cars/cyclists as people until an accident happens and someone gets hurt. I got Knocked off my road bike 7 weeks ago by someone who didn’t see me, the first day I’m back on the bike I got talking to a lady who was knocked off by another cyclist on the cycle path, who didn’t see her,the week before! Aside from this small percentage of r soles everyone else is pretty reasonable.

I just got 18 months out of a set of look keo cleats, they wore to the extent that I could feel them rocking side to side rather than staying flat, not much walking in them, can’t help feeling that the are designed to be “bought” quite a times over the life of the pedal.

If you were going to do it in front of his very eyes in his shop and he wasn’t using them himself then I’d say he’s being unreasonable – given that it’s very hard to damage a BB spanner. If you were going to walk outside then I can understand his reticence…

Hope it doesn’t get too bad.

Agree with Aphex, what kind of sicko starts a fire knowing it can quite easily wipe out a town and kill people. There was a few over here 2 weeks ago that were allegedly set on purpose.

I must admit to be scared witless when some idiots broke out the sparklers on a campsite over the new year, the place was full of tinder and dry enough to go up rapidly….

Schools great in my area – I’ve heard that the govt. primary schools are very good but the higher schools aren’t so hot – hence the popularity of private schools for older kids.

I reckon he’s gonna need more money than that though if he’s got kids and has ambitions of sending them to a private school. For starters he’s going to need at least $600 a week if he wants to rent a house reasonably close to the city that’s been refurbished after 1972!

Tell him to do his cost of living calcs very carefully…

As said above, I’ve been here for 18 months now and the only drawbacks I can think of is:

It’s expensive – even on a decent salary the potential to blow a months wages is all too easy. This is probably the number 1 reason we’ll move back to the UK – the biggest factor being the cost of buying housing if you don’t want to commute a great distance (not helped by the exchange rate at the moment either if you manage to sell a UK propoerty and bring money over)

    Plusses:

Relaxed friendly people (except when they’re driving oddly)
Great weather (can get a bit too hot in summer sometimes)although it’s actually been lashing it down all day – rain, an unusual novelty!
The city is lovely to live around – has everything you need – ignore arguments about remotest place/no culture etc.

I’d say that the biggest thing you get out of moving away from the UK is a new perspective. There are a lot of things in the UK that aren’t as bad as they’re made out to be.

We do miss friends, the historic sights, twisty interesting roads, green fields and the mountains of Wales (and possibly my family a little bit…)

I’d recommend it – not want you want to hear though :D

Yay, can’t wait, and I get to watch it at a sensible time down here. Free coverage in Oz though for some reason the races in the americas are repeated at 11 in the evening on a Monday night, so missed most of those last year.

Anyone know of any sites that show full re-runs for such times?

Was it smoking a lot? If so that suggests air starvation. My Volvo (ford engine) did this to me twice in 7 years, there was a plastic throttle on the intake manifold that stuck, either due to temperature or oil mist build up off the egg system. If you know you’re way round an engine bay it’s worth taking the inlet hose off and having a look for a build p of oil.

    I’d suspect it’s in the R&D Hora.

I’d wager a top end Alu frame from a big manufacturer will have had it’s design honed to within an nth of a a degree, whereas a cheap carbon frames main selling point is the material it’s been made from rather than the way it’s been carefully laid up and constructed?

I’ve always been of the opposite opinion – go for the frame first and regard the components as dispensable wearing parts that can be upgraded later.
