Macpac's can be cheap if you sell them later. Bought my vamoose for £90 off ebay a few years back, just sold it to my boss for £80. Was really comfy but I found that it got very little use in incleement weather – the tots staying still just don't stay warm.

I bought a Giant branded one a few weeks ago for £60. Ussed it yesterday for the first time and I was stunned at how much I was overtightening things previously with my shovel like hands..

Look up SHB 4×4, most of the construction industry seem to use them for 4×4 hire at one time or another.

I can thorughly recommend Pearl Izumi Lobster gloves if you can get hold of some. Very warm, not waterproof but still warm when wet.

My little lad (2.5 yrs) is fascinated by it – he's currently preparing reindeer food and a bit of grub for santa, as he can see he's getting closer!

Very happy with my Toshiba Satellite – great touchpad on it and veery good screen. I've used plenty of IBM's/Lenovos/Compaq's/Dells at work and this seems more than a match for the compaq's and lenovos for build quality and blows the dells into the weeds.

I swtiched my crossirdes for some lighter wheels – made a heck of a difference to and already light bike.

I prefer as fast as I can get it without feeling that I'm being flung off as the suspension extends again, and the setting differs according to temperature, IME, as the viscosity of the oil changes.

Had some PI lobsters for 7-8 years now – very durable, very warm and wash a treat. They were expensive at the time but money well spent in my book.

Rocky Mountain Vertex – I crash landed on the seatstay onto a log whilst still clipped on to the bike, I rode it for an hour afterwards with some slight brake rub, which I put down to the mud. I suspect that I would have damaged any frame TBH, just the cost to replace is different. It was still pretty stiff, even without a wheel in..

Just had a big payout on mine for a cracked carbon frame – was gutted when I hosed it down and found the crack and amazed when I found I was covered on the away from home upgrade!

Just don't let wheelies fob you off with something you don't want or a lowball cash offer – I rang M&S up saying I wanted the frame I had or more money and got a vastly better settlement. They did search the web for better prices but I'm a lanky get and usually reqquire a special order – very easy to deal wwith all in all.

    In a word, labour.

The rebar will have to be bent and tied together before being 'lobbed' into the ground. This will take several hours, as it's a small job your fixed costs (machinery) will be higher in relation to each metre length of ring beam required. It's probably not a DIY job unless you're a concrete labourer?

Concrete is probably close to £100 m3 on a small job, rebar at £400/tonne, so the materials won't be the large element of it.

Can't fault M&S insurance, dunno about theft but they've paid up with no fuss to replace a crash damaged frame on their 'away from home' cover and they don't seem to stipulate a locking standard, just that the bikes are in/on your property.

I've had a set of FSA carbon pro's on one of my bikes for nearly 5 years – they look tatty, clearcoat has plenty of chips on, they've had plenty of rock hits and they are still going strong – no problem recommending them.

I got bullied at school until the day that they pushed me too far, i vividly remember legging it up the road after one on one day and nearly dragging another off the school bus with me in another incident – fight back and they soon leave you alone IME. I was probably about 12 at the time.

I'd agree with spanishbarry, penmachno, Marin and Coed-y-Brenin are far better and there are a lot of trail diversions on at present at Llandegla I beleive.

I'd say it's great value – mine usually wear on the body and considering that the £20 includes cleats that usually sell for £12 then it's an £8 set of pedals that last 3 years – even better!

I'd push for 9 months and get out of there – that strikes me as the obvious compromise arrangement.

I've used BAT's and FR's for a few years now and I've not had to do anything apart from a bleed due to hose shortening. They're reliable, pretty powerful and the pads last for eaons if you bed them in properly. I suppose the only negative with them is that their a bit weighty?…

I have a V50 and struggle to get 2 adults in the back when there's my son in his seat there as well, and being tall there's no room behind me or the missus either – so i can see the attraction of a 4×4 that allows you tp fit people in! I can vouch for Volvo build quality – mines got 111k on it still feels better than a few others I've owned did when new

Had my Nukeproof out last week and was very happy with it – I think initially I was disappointed as the usual thing you do wwith a bright light is see how far it will illuminate. Once I'd figured to bring the aim back a bit, using a narrow beam, them I was more than happy with what it can do. It's not quite as good as the Nightmare's flood and distance compromise, but it good enough

I bought a breedlove for a similar budget a few years ago. It's just a matter of trying out a few in a music shop (don't worry about the noise coming from them!) to try out the shape of the neck and the tone of te instrument. The breedlove seemed to fit my spade like hands pretty well. You may like the tone of one over another in contrast to any reviews you have read.

    I'd check out the Fenders, Breedloves,Washburns, Crafters – there's loads out there…..

Enjoy it as well, I'm just starting to pick mine up again after a few years of guitar free fatherhood and I've realised I've forgotten what little I knew :)

Try looking for a quote as a new customer on teh M&S site – sometime sit's cheaper – just cancel existing and buy the new quote – I did this a few years ago and last years renewal was very low.

And, I've just discovered this week that if you have away from home cover them accidental damage is also covered – I should hopefully have a new frame sometime soon, which was a result I wasn't exepcting when I found the damage….

I've just bought a Nukeproof and on the street outside the bikeshop I'd say it easily gave off the same light levels as my old lupine nightmare – it's probably brighter if anything. Not used it on the bike yet so still have to figure which beam pattern to use.
