When you say 'about', I take it your talking about a few lbs?

More like a few hundred grams, depends whether it has trailrakers, pythons or verticals on…probably over 22lbs with Verticals on…..

Not much stupid light stuff on it – I prefer a bike that'll work – carbon bars, ashima rotors, a2z hubs. Feels light anyhow, but rides great :)

About 21lbs, dependant on tyre choice, which aint bad for a 20.5" framed bike.

I like it too – very distinctive without being too gauche

I'd go for the clwyds or over to Betws and do the Marin or Penmachno if it's really bad weather

Have you moved Stu? Didn't realise you were closer this way now

Pontcysyllte Aqueduct near Llangollen – a great use of cast iron sections to hold the canal.

Runcorn Widnes Bridge – I go over this every day and it still fascinates me….

I went for standard and then added on cover away from home – I'm pretty sure this was the cheaper option a far as covering bikes was concerned.

Really? I see there's also a new shop opened on the roundabout (near the Lexus garage) at Cheshire Oaks

    I've heard that's gonna be a Cannondale store……

Just finished building this and I'm well pleased with the look, not to say the ride

Yep – bought one a few months back. Seeems to be on the money, I've used the 2Nm setting and not stripped anything. I'm amazed at how tight I did things up before I got this, and suprised I haven't stripped anything expensive in such a long time.

Just joined, I always forget to keep looking at these things, so can I have a booby prize now? :D

Rocky Mountain Blizzard – I have a 21" RM Hammer in the shed, comedy length head tube but a really nice ride.

IME yes – but pick carefully. I'm happy to spend money on tyres that will generally pull me up in a shorter distance in the wet. My wife's car came with some budget tyres on and they are noticably poorer than the more exepensive variety – not so in the dry but when you really need them in the wet.

I think I saw an old Kona post in my shed the other day – came off an Explosif. Might be a bit scratched – let me know if you want it, yours for the postage.

A pint of tea would get me pissing for Britain, did you have wet shorts when you finished your ride :P

As above, lose the caffeine and all should be well.

Shorts weather – my head was still a bit cold today though….

Good news, some new trails in previously inaccessible areas would be great and presumably they'll be able to stand up to the weather a bit more thus making winter riding somewhat less of a gloopfest. Any chance of a trail up and down pale heights?

Yep – worth seeing. Also saw them some 18 years ago on the black tour and then early last year on the death magnetic tour – they were truly leagues ahead of when I saw them first (and I thought they were good then) a really good performance, well worth going to see them.

Enduro – I've done it sevarl times on my 30lb Jekyll and on a 28lb hardtail as well – the Jekyll was faster. I don't know if it'll be faster than the 20lb hardtail I have this year though……

You do need the most comfortable one though – it's a long period of riding and any bike that gives you less of a beating is good IMHO

putting yourself through hell for 6 mins on a rowing lake or 6 hours on a mountain stage are certainly not what most of us could ever get near to doing well.

It can be pure pleasure if you in the lead boat looking at 5 other crews floundering  The hellish part is training through winter to be able to do that come summer!

Alan's was the favoured term when I was at Uni – it was observed that those of a rambling bent usually had an Alan amongst the group!

Teething rings that you can put in the fridge seemed to work best on our lad – something cold to chew on.

Not in your budget range but Check out JE James – had some Trance X frames on there for £700 last week and they had 20" in stock, a bit of a bargain. I've not seen any large frames on great offers – they're usually special order at full RRP when I want something!

CRC have them for £20 – I just had to use a variety of forceful measures to get my seized bolt out of mine – grease it up well before putting the new one in!

Real top tube length is along the actual tt, from centre of head tube to centre of seat tube. Effective TT length is from the centre of the head tube, along a horizontal line, until you get the centre of the seat tubee, or more likley the seatpost.

I test rode one last year and if I could find a cheap(er) 20.5" then I'd probably buy it. I like RM's (got two HT's)and the Altitude seemed to have that 'attack the trail' ride to it that another FS bike I tested didn't have. It was nimbler in the Singletrack than my Jekyll is and had no discernible pedal feedback on the limited route I rode on. Check out the MTBR forums – there's a lot more info over there on the way the Altitude rides.

Just check the TT length on the size you want, RM's come up shorter than most on the TT.

6'3" and on a 19.5" Cannondale Jekyll, a 20.5" Rocky Mountain Vertex RSL and a 21" Rocky Mountain Hammer. Much prefer the fit of the RM's but have recently put a new fork with longer steerer on the 'dale to give the same bar height.

Did you flush out the intercooler? They often fill up with oil when turbo's blow.

    Nice,

Had a go in a 355 a few years back. Autocar have a feature this week about used 355 vs a new Lotus Exige – £30-£35k gets you a nice 355 nowadays, still too much for me but very reasonable considering that a new 458 will be the thick end of £200k, and the usable performance on public roads won't be that different.

If you're looking at a cheapish frame then your Spesh is already better than the CRC ones and most others out there. Go with Bol's advice and do some serious upgrading, unless you want more travel on the front and a long travel hardtail?

I like my Rocky Mountain as I can have theem in gate size but they do have a good standover height – not cheap though. I suppose a Dialled Alpine kinda thing, http://www.dialledbikes.com/products/mtb/alpine.php but they don;t come any bigger than 18" though.

An alcohol wipe to get rid of any grease on the areas the stickers go on, that's about it I think.

Take a look at slikgraphics.com – they seem to be able to produce anything you want…..
