I just bought another nexus 4 a couple of weeks ago after I smashed my last one (and a new one was cheaper than the repair). Love it to bits, battery life sucks but I knew that. If you’re asking if it’s still running well, it flies along just like the day I bought it.

No 4g but £100 was literally the top of my budget and for that it’s a steal.

WordPress without a doubt. The massive plugin library alone makes it worth it.

The main bugbear I have is I’m a real stickler for having my sites perfectly mobile optimised so sometimes I have to go through 5 or six plugins to find one that doesn’t spaz up on ios/android/internet explorer.

Well I stuck at medical school long enough to finish dermatology. The reason your hands get better on holiday is the UV exposure which is anti inflammatory. Keep pestering your GP, eventually they’ll refer you to dermatology and they may try treatments including UV therapy.
If it’s the itching that’s bothering you you can buy anti-pruritic (anti-itch) creams over the counter, i believe E45 makes one.

Also I have dermatitis and I notice it gets a lot better on holiday.

A quick and dirty solution might be to use the iTunes equaliser set to ‘spoken word’ then manually cut any annoying frequencies if that doesn’t help.

I’ve lived here since 2009, I would say the city has changed a lot since then. What are you into other than cycling? The city still doesn’t feel cosmopolitan but I suppose that comes with time. I live on the east side and volunteer in some of the schemes and I’ve never felt anything but safe. Also house prices /rent is very low.

Bit lazy reporting. RIPA was not introduced to fight terrorism it was introduced to provide a legal framework for a number of activities that were not covered by any uk statute including surveillance to detect or prevent crime. Pre ripa a number of authorities undertook surveillance and other activities but there was no legal system of authorisation or review or legislation to govern this, RIPA introduced this. I suspect the LAs are using aspects of RIPA, possible surveillance or billing requests to investigate what they perceive to be crime because this is the legislation that covers these activities not because it is a handy fix

Fair enough how about police abuse of section 44 of The Terrorism Act 2000, (now repealed) “More than 100,000 people were stopped and searched by police under counter-terrorism powers last year but none of them were arrested for terrorism-related offences, according to Home Office figures published today.
The statistics show that 504 people out of the 101,248 searches were arrested for any offence – an arrest rate of 0.5%, compared with an average 10% arrest rate for street searches under normal police powers.” {Guardian 2010] My point is that any new laws need watertight definitions to stop the data equivalent of this.

I think getting stuck in the nitty-gritty of the exact implementation the law may take loses sight of the point.

I think the main things to be worried about are, vague lawmaking, and misuse of powers. For example “Seventy-seven councils who responded to a Freedom of Information request admitted using the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act [introduced to help the police fight terrorism in 2000]to crack down on “domestic waste, littering or fly-tipping offences” in the last three years.” (Sunday Telegraph, 2010).

God knows how the definition of this and further laws may be stretched especially as technology is constantly shifting and harder to pin down in law.

If we accept that terrorist attacks are going to continue to happen then should we also accept that every time they do, it’s OK slip a little more legislation in while the public are scared? Because that could keep going ad infinitum until we arrive in police state territory.

Finally I really believe that when we send information to our girlfriends, mothers, solicitors it should be a private communication between ourselves and them and we should be able to encrypt it to ensure that’s the case. While I’ve no doubt I’m of the least interest to the government my business is my business not anyone else’s to view as they please. I certainly don’t want government employees freely reading my messages. If they suspect me they can get a warrant from our courts to get data from my ISP and make me give them my private keys. That way there is judicial oversight.

One of the Independent’s comments struck me “I understand that some homes and apartments are built without government listening devices in every room. That makes the work of the police more difficult — makes it harder to fight terrorism. Obviously this situation should be remedied.” That’s really not too far off it.

Documents off, make a list of important applications, backup any application profiles or playlists you care about. Reinstall windows, or put 8.1 on which will run faster on old PC. If you go for 8.1 install Classic Shell to reinstate start menu. Also an SSD works wonders.

Nope but it’d be a start….target the heads of these organisations, target the training camps…absolutely annihilate groups like ISIS/ISIL etc…special forces soldiers essentially on long term rotation executing these murderous individuals.

We can thank the Americans for founding ISIS

“the US-run prison provided an extraordinary opportunity. “We could never have all got together like this in Baghdad, or anywhere else,” he told me. “It would have been impossibly dangerous. Here, we were not only safe, but we were only a few hundred metres away from the entire al-Qaida leadership.”

    From The Sunday Times today
“PRINCE ANDREW may have immunity from prosecution for his alleged involvement in crimes committed by his billionaire sex offender friend Jeffrey Epstein under a deal struck with the United States government.

The secret plea agreement with American prosecutors in 2007 protects Epstein, an investment banker convicted of soliciting sex from underage girls, along with any of his “potential co-conspirators” from a number of criminal charges relating to an alleged international sex trafficking ring established to serve the rich and famous.

Details of the “non-prosecution agreement” emerged after Andrew was forced to deny sensational allegations made in US court papers that he had “sexual relations” with a 17-year-old girl, who claims she was used as a “sex slave” by Epstein.

Last night Buckingham Palace was on the defensive as it emerged that:

•Documents filed at court in Florida and obtained by The Sunday Times allege that Epstein obtained his secret deal through his “significant social and political connections”. They claim Andrew and Bill Clinton, the former US president, made “efforts” on behalf of Epstein to secure him a “more favourable” deal.

•The senior American prosecutor who negotiated the deal now believes it should have been “tougher”.

•Alan Dershowitz, Epstein’s high-profile lawyer, was again forced to deny that he had sexual relations with the alleged victim or any underage person “ever in my life”.”

Lots of software. All at once. I’m not going to replace a i7 with 1.5TB of storage and 32GB ram with a Chromebook.

Why not get a Thinkpad T series, one of the most linux compatible laptops? In fact I triple boot 8.1, OSX Yosemite and Ubuntu on mine.

Seeing as you need your laptop for a serious purpose, get a serious laptop. http://shop.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/thinkpad/t-series/. The only laptop to be used on the ISS. Two batteries built in. Pop an SSD in and you’ll be flying. I have a t420 from 2012 I got on ebay used. It’s so well built and it’s very powerful. I think I will never get a random shiny, looks-good-on-the-display-stand-in-PC-World laptop again.

If networks is the direction you want to go focus on voice or IP networks, much more demand for those skills and much less people with them.

What training/courses would you recommend to upskill into this? I currently study acoustic physics but I really want to work in IT. I do love working with people and clients face to face so tell me if this is a terrible idea.

    I did Slovakia>Hungary>Serbia>Bosnia>Montenegro>Kosovo>Serbia>Macedonia>Bulgaria>Turkey in Summer 2013

If you go into it with the mentality that everyone is essentially good and human just like you then you’ll be just fine.

Every border was no problem, in fact they were happy to see a cyclist and I was always waved to the front of every border queue by the staff and queuers.

Every country, especially Turkey, was very welcoming. Rural Kosovo is underdeveloped but not a crime ridden shithole, just normal people going about their lives. You can see in the capital, Pristina, that the aid money doesn’t fall far from the tree. Lots of very nice cars with dip plates etc. Effects of the war are obvious in most Balkan countries, every mile or so you’ll cycle past a roadside memorial with dates a little too close to the present day. Many of the memorials are also springs as giving water to travellers is an important part of balkan/muslim culture, great for thirsty cyclists.

Take a hammock and tarp instead of a tent, much comfier and easier to stealth camp imo.

These will be your worst enemy. The only time in my life I almost died happened in a Bosnian tunnel.

The sensors don’t detect bikes so the lights shut off one-by-one leaving you in pitch blackness.

    Lots of lovely architecture

This was a particularly luxurious memorial worthy of a photo.

    Montenegro

This began to climb away from the river and would continue for two days.

It was very cold and a storm was forecast and I had run out of food as there hadn’t been a shop for days so I paid a small amount to camp.

The next day was a solid day of ascent.

    Bit random

    At the top!

Oh…false summit, i had to descend for miles.
This is the actual summit ahead

    Made it, lazy drivers.

This was the scorpion infested campsite that night.

Sausages and onions with bread mmm

    Nearing the Kosovan border

    Another death trap

Kosovo lies stretched to the horizon. You must never go there, Simba.

    The capitol

I don’t know what this was but it was good!

    Typical Kosovo

Road to an international border? Google maps lied about this border crossing, it wasn’t created yet so I crossed illegally into Macedonia, found a village of farmers who spoke french who explained there was no border yet, so I had to backtrack a day into Kosovo and cycle to the Serbian border then into Macedonia. The border guard didn’t even check my entry stamp when I left :/

Kosovan people LOVE America and Bush!! American flags everywhere. The guy in the Merc was just leaving his driveway and asked my if I wanted to come for a tour of his house (It was American themed) :D

Helped this little guy cross the road

    I liked this sign

    Welcome to Macedonia

A cow ate my pasta out of the pan in the morning! :(

Almost at Istanbul, this day was hell on earth, I had to cycle miles on 6 lane motorways and navigating the city suburbs was nightmarish, I would advise anyone to take the ferry from outside the city.

Went there in Jan two years ago with the missus and it was great but sooooo cold. My feet and gloved hands were like blocks of ice so take some decent clothes. Also it was very off season which was lovely. I passed through for a couple of days this Summer and it was just another eurobackpacker hole.
