Perhaps something a little different to consider. I’m extremely grateful to have gone to boarding school on a scholarship. I certainly feel it was a good education and I really enjoyed myself and got very good grades etc. But it took me a long time to adjust to ‘civilian’ life after the public school bubble. Orwell puts it much better than I could but essentially I came out with views on normal people which a am so terribly ashamed to have had. I would say it took about 5 years of working in ‘working-class’ jobs and making friends with normal people from low socioeconomic backgrounds while at uni to really overcome the deep rooted upper-class sentiments that I had instilled in me. I even used to be so embarrassed about sounding posh that I put-on a local accent in an attempt to fit in.

So now I feel in some ways I’ve benefited from living both ends of the spectrum, I know intimitely how both ends live, see the other, their problems etc, and I can act myself around everyone. I work with a couple of single/drug-using-parent kids from the poorest areas on my city and it pains me to know that they are almost doomed to repeat the cycle of their parents but I do what I can to help raise their aspirations and reading etc. but I feel a little guilty at my privilege
A part of me feels somewhat marrooned in the middle. Not actually having come from a landowning family (far from it) so not actually part of the elite but also seen by most people I know as ‘their posh friend’ as if I don’t have my own people.

Sorry that rambled a little bit like therapy but just bear in mind that it’s not just education that kids receive in public/private school.

I know everyone under the sun has their opinion on condenser mics so please take this with a pinch of salt but check out the Superlux s241 http://www.thomann.de/gb/superlux_s241.htm It’s only £61+p&p with the euro just now and it’s my utter favourite microphone (I have 6 of them). You can hear them here. https://soundcloud.com/ollie-boyd-1/sets/glasgow-university-chapel-choir-performs-langlais-messe-solennelle-organ-solos-25112014

Me and my flatmate have just made it through the winter without using the heating once (apart from when my girlfriend came round and literally cried so I’d turn it on). I sleep in two sleeping bags and a wool blanket. That money’s going towards a holiday to make it worthwhile.

Thanks for the attempted advice. But as I said above gapless playback doesn’t affect it. I’ve played with every single setting as have many in the Spotify forum with no joy.

hahaha well actually it was for something more critical but it still happened after the reinstall. So yea maybe I’m overly mad about this but the combination of every new song after pause starting in the wrong time signature and the apathy of Spotify’s support have driven me over the edge.

For me it just means that EVERY time I pause Spotify and then play a new song I miss the beginning which eventually over the years has p/$$ed me off enough to do something.

I’m paying £10 a month to play music so I’d expect the basic function of music playback to work.

This isn’t how I want to listen to music and I’m sure it’s not how artists want their music to be heard.

I’ve repeatedly message them on Twitter but they say they don’t have PCs to check it on and they’ll pass it on. Clearly nothing gets addressed on the forum (Others have the problem since at least 2012 but it’s ignored. Spotify forum posts.)

I have tried reinstalling Windows and the problem remains. It also occurs on both my laptop and PC. On Windows 8.1 and 7.
The problem occurs on multiple audio cards.
The problem can be reproduced almost every time.
It doesn’t matter if gapless playback is on.
It occurs on the new beta.
It occurs with offline tracks so has nothing to do with buffering.

Would you be able to try when you get home? I’m struggling to find any friends’ PC that this doesn’t happen to, although it doesn’t seem to bother them.

Hi Robdob, check out this USB regulator, it’s not as sexy as a headset one but works well as far as I can read. http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00DF4JOIM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2FWD8FLRIIV37

16-25000Hz +/- 2dB I simply do not believe that. I do not believe you. I do not believe this website. Their white paper isn’t a white paper it’s an extension of their barketing bs. Have you read an industry white paper before? Even companies like Harmon put out some excellent white papers. What you were saying about peak power especially as someone who supposedly works in sound-reenforcement is utter rubbish.

If you look at current cutting edge amplifier design amps are no longer designed to produce continuous power which is close to their peak output because music is incredibly dynamic.

Do you actually live in the real world? I can assure you that when your amplifier is being used in a club or festival with compressed dance music and a DJ who’s sneakily turned the output on his DJ mixer (as they all do) so their output is hitting your compressor hard there will be NO dynamic range maybe 1 dB if you’re lucky. Those amps have to work haaard for hours with no break every night so their RMS value is the most important figure. We could not care less about their peak power same with anyone in live sound because they just need rock solid amps working hard all day. To spec an amp based on only knowing its peak power would be moronic and impossible.

I have the same amp, just so you know, class AA will always be burning the same amount of power regardless of whether it’s outputting to the speakers or not. In the case of this amp I think it’s 90w so be sure to turn it off after listening. Unless you’re minted.

Here’s another question, would you tell anyone? I’ve thought about this before and I know I wouldn’t tell any family or friends but I’m just not sure about my girlfriend, I think I’m worried that deep down she’d attribute future success to my luck and might feel a bit resentful.

I wouldn’t trust anything made by Nuforce after their attitude in this http://nwavguy.blogspot.co.uk/2011/02/nuforce-udac-2-drama.html another bullsh*t ‘audiophile’ company. Also 24w Peak at 8 ohms is going to be about 20w RMS which is pretty weedy if you don’t know the sensitivity of your speakers.

I have one, I don’t regret it but it’s not aged well. I guess quality is hard to define in a product but having bought jackets and stuff from Montane and Rab in the meantime it’s made me realise how little details, design, and nice materials make up a product’s quality. The Chinese bag was fine out the box and it’s done two tours but the down is not well filled anymore and the material is a bit manky and some loose stitching etc. It was during a time I bought loads of stuff from China but now I would much rather a made in UK Snugpack synthetic or something like that.

My advice to myself after building one would be don’t cheap out on fans because noisy fans test my sanity. And get a nice case. I upgraded to the Bitfenix Phenom M case and I love it. Motherboards come in 3 sizes, ATX, mini ATX and micro ITX. Micro ITX builds are increasingly popular because you can put them in a wee ITX case.

If cash converters keep the receipt, in my experience they’ve no problems selling dodgy audio gear. I usually just keep an eye on Gumtree or my local area’s Facebook selling page.
