Am I working the exchange rate out correctly with the prices on the website? One of them was about £1700 pp for 3 days?
It does look amazing though!
markshiresFree MemberI’ve got the freerider pros and the elements, there both great to ride in, the pros are a lot narrower and aren’t as chunky as the elements. There also a lot lighter. As for them been waterproof I’d say the elements are slightly better but riding for a few hours in the rain they end up wet through as do the pros. The drying times on the pros a probably slightly quicker but they do have less foam. They both are ok in the rain when paired with some waterproof socks though. I’d say the elements are a lot warmer to ride in but I haven’t tried them in cold conditions when warmth is needed. For me the difference I prefer my pros as they aren’t as chunky and lighter but I guess this is personal preference. By the way I got the pros price match by Evans with canyon if it’s any help.
markshiresFree MemberI’ve had a pair of 2’s, and a couple of pairs of 3’s. I have also got a pair of the humvees that were on sale at wiggle a few months back. Out of them all I would say the humvees are the best of the bunch. I find the singletracks to be shorter, also the leg openings are tighter so don’t fit over pads as well. The material is also thinner but I don’t mind that too much.
I’d go with the humvees personally, as they have the same pockets and are a bit thicker, although I believe there is a newer version out or due out.
markshiresFree MemberAnyone remember one of the winter Olympics a few years back when they had the snowboarding on and got the equivalent redbull commentators? They got over excited making it more interesting, but apparently they got a load of complaints afterwards.
markshiresFree MemberLast year I ran a nitenumen x8 also called an evolva, it was about £30 and was an all in one job. The mount it came with was a crap rubber mount thing but easily fixed with a qr mount instead.
It lasted for my 2hours ish night rides a couple of times a week, last winter and is doing ok so far this year when needed.
markshiresFree MemberIt’s 2 hours recording time, unless your leaving it running all day i find it’s plenty of battery time. When it’s not recording it totally shuts down so it doesn’t use any battery, I’ve never run out of battery yet and done full days with it, only recording the good bits though. It did a full day at BPW, recording all the runs down the hill for example.
markshiresFree MemberA lad I used to work with a while few years ago in a totally unrelated job. Decided he wanted to be a pilot, at the time his training cost about 50k, i know he got some kind of bursary/Grant/loan for most of it. He did a lot of exams/tests whilst he was still working at our place, but once he had passed them he went out to Nevada for x months to learn how to fly. He had no previous flying expierance before that. I’m sure the whole thing took about 2 years to complete, and although he wasn’t guaranteed a job afterwards, he pretty much walked into a pilots job at Ryanair, he was saying the major airlines virgin/ba etc though needed so many flying hours before he could get a job with them.
I’m still friends with him via Facebook and it looks like he is permantly on holiday.
markshiresFree MemberThere on the go outdoors website and had them in the Wakefield store, they don’t do the pros though, but Evans will price match those and you get free delivery too!
markshiresFree MemberAs above go outdoors will price match as will Evans, I also did this last time.
markshiresFree MemberOne of the spindles has a small groove/ring around it to denote left or right can’t remember which, it says in the box but it’s not glaringly obvious.
I set my pins up having the longer ones on the outside edges and the smaller ones in the middle, seems to work ok so far.
markshiresFree MemberWhat’s the difference over Zee’s?
Much lighter ?
I think that’s what it said in the pinkbike article but doesn’t say by how much though.
markshiresFree MemberI’ve always found it better to mount it to your person (Chest or Helmet mounts). I’ve never really had good results with mounting it on my bike.
markshiresFree MemberWe’ve just got back from our holiday, and used the GoPro session 4 camera. It is really small and great for letting the kids mess about with, in the pool and on the beach. It’s also waterproof without having a case too. Most of the holiday it was just attached to the floating mount. I used to use one of the cheaper cameras, and the quality was of footage was fine, but I find the GoPro apps to be really good to use for editing the footage, particularly the Quik app. I find just recording shorter clips makes the editing quicker, than ones that are minutes long.
If you are interested, here’s the video, but there’s no bikes included!
markshiresFree MemberCheers Bolt, sounds promising then so fingers crossed.
I did the same two freehubs in a couple of months.
markshiresFree MemberSorry to ressurect an old thread, but has anyone else being using the electro hub for any length of time?
I have just had my hub upgraded under warranty as the previous fuel hub kept disintegrating freehubs. I think it’s a fairly common problem with them.
I’m just wandering if it has been improved with the newer electro hub?
markshiresFree MemberI always thought Tarquin was a girls name? … learn something new everyday.
markshiresFree MemberI didn’t see anything, but I’ll keep a eye out next time then. It’s very wet though.
markshiresFree MemberWe were there on Sunday morning, normally do something similar to mugboo. We didnt see any sabotage on the track to the crags. And also the main fireroad back towards the tpt has been closed so we had to push back up and go over the moor instead. Along that fireroad it has been churned up and really muddy. Not sure how far along it went as we then went into greno for a few runs which were fine.
markshiresFree MemberSaw a big sculpture park that looked cool, but could be boring for the child
If it’s the Yorkshire sculpture park, nr wakefield/Barnsley they normally run some activity sessions for the kids, suppose it depends how old they are though.
markshiresFree MemberThere were loads of 510’s on the canyon sale site last week, I got a pair of Freeriders, which I price matched with go-outdoors to get an extra 10% off.
It was these ones,
https://www.canyon.com/en-gb/accessories/?category=T193#id=51964markshiresFree MemberGreat write up, can’t wait for your final bit. Definitely something I’m thinking of doing at some point, hopefully to coincide with the world cup one year!
markshiresFree MemberOh no bucko, heal up soon.
One of the things with BMCC was knowing when to reign it in a bit after smashing run after run as you get to know the trails pretty well by the end of the day.
markshiresFree MemberI did a small section earlier on this year the bit from arrochar to Inveruglas, as part of the glen loin loop, i noticed all the signs for the 3 lochs way so it seemed pretty well sign posted. For the bit I did you would be fine with a gravel bike although, the were a couple of rougher bits that would be more fun on a HT, but they were definitely in the minority. It was quite a nice ride and I can imagine the views would have been amazing but unfortunately it p*ssed it down for me all the was around and I couldn’t see a thing. I’d definitely recommend taking a little detour up to Loch Sloy though, before you drop back into Inveruglas.
I made a little video of my ride that I did.
markshiresFree MemberAs we were leaving we past a big campsite just down the road and opposite there was a big pub that looked like it might have had accommodation too. No idea what it was called but have a look on Google maps and you should see it.
It was this one old Pandy inn no idea what it’s like we didn’t stop there
markshiresFree Member^^^ Bad Brains without Bad Brains music? I is disappoint.
I’m saving them for a special occasion!
markshiresFree MemberWe went a couple of weeks ago and had a really good time,
As above there’s not much in the way of facilities but its a really chilled out place. It was slightly intimidating when we first pulled up and everyone seemed to have full on downhill bikes, there are some really big jump lines but you’ll see them a mile off. I stuck to the blues and reds and you can mix different sections up all the way down to get a different run together. My only criticism is that the signage in the middle part could be a bit clearer, but after a couple of runs it’s fine.markshiresFree MemberAs Mowgli said stanage is a pretty good decent but it is a bit of road over to it and then back from it, but the view from the top is pretty good, so I’d say it’s worth the detour. Last time I was that way we started at the bottom of lady Cannings and rode over to do stanage edge before the walkers and then headed back over to do a couple of the descents on Blacka Moor, finishing with as many runs of lady Cannings as you can manage.
My video should give you an idea of the route
markshiresFree MemberI’ve done a few of the Northern ones, and they are generally good routes particularly if you don’t know the area. The routes vary depending on where they are, as the Peaks one was better than the Leeds one (imo). I should imagine the wales one will be a pretty good route.
As thomthumb says though they have to keep it legal, so expect a bit more link up road sections.
The feed stations are good though, and you can stock up on enough Hi5 energy gels for free to keep you going a while.
markshiresFree MemberTry turning the heatmap on, it’ll show you whether the path/track is ridden much, if it’s a brighter more defined line it’s usually ok, if it’s faint or non existent there’s a good chance it’ll be poor, on the other hand you might find a hidden gem of a track.
Obviously this doesn’t show you whether the tracks are bridleways or not.
markshiresFree MemberRight you’ve all talked me into it, just ordered a smart box from John Lewis with 4months movies for £35.
Anyone know of any offers for the entertainment pass?
markshiresFree MemberQuikKey is for Android, damn you’s Apple
There is an apple version too, it’s a tenner more expensive though.
markshiresFree MemberHave a look at the QuikKey, you plug your memory card into the key and then into your phone and will be able to copy the files to whereever from there it works a lot quicker than over the gopro’s wifi.
markshiresFree MemberI had also looked at BMCC but isn’t that the place that specify dedicated full face helmets only, so my Bell Super 2R won’t qualify.
We went to BMCC a couple of weeks ago, and full face helmets weren’t compulsory just advised(same as BPW), most people had them on but a few in our group weren’t wearing them and were fine. So you’ll be fine.
You can see them at the beginning of my video here; and I am sure one of the lads had the Bell Helmet with the detachable chin guard too.
markshiresFree MemberI’ve used them to buy some brakes, the same time I bought them through the website, somebody else had also bought them on eBay or wherever. The guy contacted my straight away and offered me some newer upgraded brakes. Which I received at no extra cost and even got a free bottle opener too. Other than that I had no problems, and it turned out ok for me.
markshiresFree MemberThe reception thing doesn’t open until 9, and you’ll have a bit of a que to get your bands, but if your in the que for 9 you’ll easy make the first uplift, there is a nice bit of trail from the cafe to the uplift buses too, which will take about 5 minutes.
I’ve got the 7Idp full face helmet which is the same as those 661 helmets and they are really good, it is really light weight.
A load of us went down a couple of weekends ago and it is a brilliant day, just take it easy on your first couple of runs.
