I’ve got the Alu’ Exotic forks, look the same as carbon ones, probably a bit heavier but ride really nice. Very happy with them.

I guessing it was the police who pushed for this to go to court because at the end of the day he used a vehicle as a weapon and could have easily killed some one?

Yes, wheel out, still bent. Think i’ll just have to chalk it up to experience. But I do wonder about the carbon lay up, it seems very plastic…

Mech was trapped in the spokes below the chain stay. I was off the power as soon as I felt it lock. I’d been riding through a field with a Barley growing in it. Some of the Barley got wrapped around the mech and cassette and caused the problem.
And yes its bent not broken. Can’t be arsed to do pics, just imagine what was a straight tube now having an (approx) 5 % bend in it. Chainstay must be affected to but harder to see, back wheel now sits at an angle in the frame 🙁

    No, defiantly bent.

“Because the failure was caused by the mech jamming” masher, but my expectation is that the bolts on the mech hanger should fail first. I’ve been riding for 30 odd years and plenty of bikes have come and gone in that time and i’ve had the odd mech in the spokes before and its never resulted in a frame being written off.

Its the seat stay that’s bent weirdly

Regards to the proposal for the carparks on the Chase Scruff, I can see why landowners might want to control & to some extent limit visitors. Its hard to find a quite corner up there these days and I know post Covid numbers will drop off but I don’t think it will go back to how it was. At weekends the whole area is under stress from the sheer volume of visitors and their cars.
Plus the main land owner Staffs council have got to find ways to generate more money with less money coming from central government to councils. And its got to be done as cheaply as possible, so if it costs to much to put a ticket machine in they’ll close the carpark…
Hope they don’t close Chase road as the north west part of the Chase will become off limits to a lot of people unable to walk very far. Already the nature reserve at Brocton is inaccessible to people with mobility issues with the closure off its carpark but I bet it happens.
The consultation process seemed like a proper pi$$ take, the whole thing could/should have been handled better.
I don’t agree with whats going on but I can see why its happening.

We’ve had some really close racing this year, really enjoyed it and to top it off a Matt Walker is world champ and theres still nothing on the front page celebrating this…

What bike did you end up doing it on in the end?

I’ve done Stafford to Chirk and back via canals which is no help route wise but found like Onewheelgood that a lot of towpaths can be quite rough so used a short travel fullsus’ bike with tyres that roll well.
Always fancied doing a ride down to London on towpaths myself but never got around to it, interested to hear how it goes.

I often wonder when I read a fit and healthy person needs an Ebike to make mountain biking fun that maybe they’re doing the wrong sport?

I think some none legit trail builders overstepped the mark on what would be tolerated trail building wise up on the Chase, namely large jumps and elevated woodwork sections. I happened to be passing when the FC removed this stuff (never seen so many FC vans in one place before) it was quite some construction and must have taken a lot of time & effort to build, you just knew it would all kick off when the FC found out about it.

I really enjoyed Bowie’s set, voice seemed pretty good considering the lifestye he’d had. Not everyones cup of tea I guess.

As a volunteer ranger for the NT I can only advise against trail building on their land. When the local rangers find it they will probably have to remove it and with so much work to catchup on in the coming months (due to covid 19) fewer staff and no sign of us Vols coming back anytime soon its just more stress/work for the local staff to deal with.

I was up there yesterday afternoon and as the few other locals to the area have said, it was very busy. I will be giving w/e riding a miss for a while unless I drag myself out of bed really early. Came as quite a shock to have to share the playground with so many others!

Going over Cut gate a few years ago to go watch the TDF we came across an elderly guy on a tourer bike (he was walking at this point and was telling us how much rougher it was up there than it was in his day tbf ) but he there he was having a crack at it and enjoying it. He was a real life rough stuffer. I felt privileged to meet him, he had a proper sense of adventure and was still up for a challenge. Hope like that in my old age 🙂

I recently repaired my Cube Reaction with a diy kit bought of eBay. It was damaged on the down tube by the water bottle mounts. Only ridden it once since I repaired it but it felt fine, time will tell I guess.
One thing I would say is make sure your scales are sensitive/accurate for weighing out the epoxy & hardener.

    Derek starship, Yes. Missing a u wasn’t I :-).
It had quite an impact on me. A few years ago you could pick these up for very little money and left to me I would have bought one but probably just as well I didn’t as I have an ability to home in on money pits…

I’ve got one although its the model up from this. I’ve been really happy with it other than I can’t get the seat post to align properly, its slightly off by a degree or two to the right so the nose of the saddle rubs on my inside of my leg. The seat post and seat tube have a flat back to them (part of the shock absorbing design) unlike conventional seat posts. It can be annoying but some rides I don’t even notice it, anyway not enough to send the bike back. Other than this its been a great bike to ride and it would be very good value at that price.

At our local nt property the staff are doing the roving ranger role which is basically litter picking and helping people if need be. Everyone I saw there were in small family groups or couples all keeping a sensible distance from each other. It was nice to be out. Can’t see the problem with this. Where as the guy standing behind me breathing down my neck at the co op checkout, that I do have problem with.

If we’re not careful Covid19 could kill off a lot of outdoor pursuits where contact is unavoidable. Dogging for one.

Hi coconut, i’ve got slr gx0 version, really pleased with it so far(had it about a month now). I was kind of torn between which one to plum for and if i hadn’t seen the gx0 priced at £1200 at Edinbrugh bicycle cooperative I would have gone with the gx1 and been happy with it.
Bike rides and handles really nicely, weighs around 10kg in medium size which seems to be the going rate in this price range for gravel bikes. It climbs well, the groupset works fine. Its a really sweet ride, theres nothing I dislike about it.
    And its orange 🙂
