Can you do a resistance check before and after light polishing with sandpaper? if its anodised then then the resistance will remain the same (unless you go through the anodised) whereas there will be only a slight reduction in resistance if you polish pure aluminium (you will remove the oxide film).

Caustic soda etches Al (attacks it) but will not touch anodise (Al2O3) so don’t leave submerged in it over night but dab it or submerge it for minutes at a time. If you remove the surface of the Al with caustic then you might be able to remove the scratches that way

    Good luck!

surely if its down to maintenance then hard tail all the way, Wheel size has no bearing on it unless you have to clean each spoke

I bought a Kona Taro – freaking awesome. Best thing with a hard tail is that cleaning it after a days ride takes minutes!

As others have put. Becareful going from the church to the trails as this is now a walking path so please walk beside your bike. On the other side of the path there are quite a few trails – the famous Rollercoaster and lots either side or crossing over. If you tag in with some others or look on starva there are plenty of other trails. ENJOY!

It was an excellent race. The atmosphere was fantastic and great to see so many kids around.

The mechanics in the pit lanes were working overtime – just cleaning the bikes between sections was impressive.

The shimano steps looked tiring and there was more running on the off camber stuff then I expected to see.

Hope to see it back for 2015!

+1 for cyclone – been a member for years and they are a great group. I don’t ride with them as much as I should but the pass for woburn is handy as well.

Chicksands is great in the summer for a bit of fun

I have a KS LEV – easy to keep clean (using a chain stay protector), the mechanical controller is easy to instal/modify – bloody excellent even with my 90+kg!

Ontor – is it worth the £500 more for Steel over Ally? Also – as its 1×10 (1×9) is it a beast to climb up hills as well as go down them?

    I think its from here:telegraph

Schumacher, an experienced skier, was travelling at a moderate speed when he fell and hit a rock. His skis were new; his bindings have been subsequently tested and were not at fault; he was fully in control of his movements as he left the marked pistes and traversed the patch of snow in-between two groomed runs in Meribel.
But now investigators believe that they may have found a reason for the seriousness of the crash. They think that his helmet camera could have actually worsened the blown, and caused the helmet to shatter into pieces.
Experts from ENSA, the world-renowned ski and climbing academy in the French ski resort of Chamonix, have conducted tests to determine whether the presence of a solid object between a helmet colliding with a rock would weaken the structure.
The helmet smashed – but the camera he had attached to it, in order to record him and his son skiing, was undamaged. The footage, audio and visual, has provided police with crucial information about the crash.

Hi there, surface engineering is pretty specific and as such you will only find those roles in very large companies, Rolls Royce, Siemans, Bodycote etc. Tribology is even more specific but if you have done some corrosion work (tribocorrosion) then thats starting to get popular within the oil and gas industry (corrosion people tend to get well paid in oil and gas but thats mainly based in Scotland).

I would initially look for material engineer positions unless you go directly to the very large corporations. An alternative idea is that there are some consultancy jobs being banded about in the london area that you could go for. Materials World is an option but linked in and online job recruitment sites work well.

    Hope this helps

I used to teach there (also did an MSc and PhD there)…. what type of courses are you looking for? Generally, it tends to be that its done over 2 years instead of one and rather that a group project you do something like a literature search or project for your company.

Like most things its tricky doing things part time and depends on the flexibility of your work. Good luck!

    Hope this helps

I flew from the UK to Thailand last Saturday. Arrived at 7pm Thai time (BST+7). I had a tough Sunday after almost no sleep :D but kept myself up 8O until about 9pm on Sunday.

    That just sounds dodgy!

Porte going backwards again today. I wonder how he can recover from this experience, I feel bad for him as he looked so strong last year and he’s clearly not got that form. Conclusions get drawn that he’s not a contender but he seems to me to have been below par all Tour.

I have the agree with that…. maybe GT will be the new No 2?
