Some good info on skill builder:

    Heat Geeks

There is another one where they fix a very poor system.

There wasn’t a single British rider featured either.

That explains why I couldn’t find LG’s run then. However his 3rd place lifted me from the bottom of the STW fantasy league. 78 out of 79, but 79 is AWOL, so I think I came last ?

Is this still happening? Probably the route cause of the demise of the Lodge?

    Middle.

Important point is to make sure you have no stupid thin cuts at the edges. Work it out in both directions and use a chalk line to make a cross in the calculated centre of the room.

I’d be strongly arguing that it’s blindingly obvious it could be corroded and seized,

I wish. Some of the worst I’ve dealt with in 30+ years have looked OK. I always covered my rear, by explaining to the customer, that there was a slight chance that the nipple would shear off and require extra work, that might require a replacement caliper. Never had to replace a caliper though.

As for using an easy out . . NO! Left-hand drill bit is always the best solution. I’ve a drawer full of various versions and they do work on bigger bolts, all they do on small stuff is expand the bolt/nipple and force the threads in tighter.

    Rod Stewart.

So I could shout at him and chuck stuff* at him, the bas*ard. £1.85 (or so), a long drive from York to Newcastle city hall and then he walked off after about 45 minutes. No encore and then night spent the dossing in the multi-story car park on the concrete.

    Outdoor Active.

Tried most but OA has OS Maps (and IGN). Snaps to BW and paths + voice guidance. Can be a bit flaky with the snap function, but dead easy to switch to point to point.

Plot on the phone, but use your PC/laptop for the bigger picture. ‘Where’s the path’ is still great for an overview

    What sillysilly said.

Massive fan of DH and the STW fantasy table has lot of teams, so plenty of interest. Mind you my team is last, so what do I know?

Mountain warehouse organic Tees. Can be had for £9.99. Admittedly a bit of a lottery on quality, but most of the ones I have are fantastic – for the money.

If you know little or nothing about cars then get an inspection done by the AA/RAC or similar. Not cheap, but well worth it*. Plus you don’t need to test drive it, so you save on any temporary insurance. Of course you might hate the driving position etc.

*Customer claimed the full cost of a ‘cat’ from the RAC when it fell apart after a couple of weeks of ownership. T & Cs may have changed since.

Are the Joe’s shrader tubeless valves any good ?

Absolutely fine. I’m just waiting for the warranty to runout on my bike before converting another over.

And best of luck Presta fans when you can’t undo the frozen pile of Presta poo on a freezing hill in winter.

How many ebike owners clean their ebike like they clean a regular bike, by blasting it with a hose. Something you’d not do with any other electrical item

Well I blast the brakes and wheel arches on my cars with a pressure washer. ABS sensor and brake pad wear sensor down there and of course the hub bearings. Never had an issue.

Seems odd that we can build a submersible that goes down to the depths of the ocean, yet can’t build a bike motor that is water tight?

Really? That’s a massive own goal if that’s the case. Got a link or something to substantiate that?

    @oceanskipper
    . Re: Bosch Motor.

No link, but I saw it mentioned on the EMTB forum. Don’t quote me, but he suggested that it was a lot harder to fix because the electronics were wrapped around the stator. Taking it apart can trash it, so be careful was the advise.

I’ve figured a ‘light weight’ emtb just because theres a chance of getting it over gates/walls etc, and occasionally getting it on the car roof rack.

Best save some of the budget for a decent gym membership/home gym set up. And forget anything that has a non removable battery.

I can get my Canyon Strive over a gate with a struggle (and help if available). No chance of getting it on a car roof though.

Best thing about Grizedale NF trail? The ascent. Worst: The rest of it and the cafe.

Book (in advance) an eBike, do the ascent and then head off down the Parkamoor BW. Loop back around via Nibthwaite and Ickenthwaite.Head back along the road or if you’ve time head back into the forest.

Not really. Running out of free storage on Google photos and I like to keep a separate folder of STW uploads locally.

. . . steps bar the first and last?

Last one might be a problem (and a solution) 😁

Still the same issue with image uploads. I’ve managed to get one uploaded to the riding thread, but no chance with the second. I’m ‘bog standard’:

Pixel phone > Google photos > Chrome > download image to Win 10 laptop > upload to STW?

Nuck me. Looks like the image upload has been fixed? Or did I just get lucky?

Bluebells still looking good in the Wye Valley.

Er. . .Nope. Failure for another image. Same process:

    Pixel phone

    Download to laptop

    Upload to here

Dialogue says the same old poop about file size and image type 🥱😫🙄

If the air-con is working fine then no need for a “re-gas”.

The system contains oil and like any oil, it degrades over time/use. You can get away with it for sure, but I service mine every 5 years – assuming no leaks in the interim.

Brake fluid essential and is part of the schedule for most (if not all) VMs. I’ve scrapped a customers car in the past due to corrosion on the ABS modulator valves. Brake fluid never changed, car scrap.

It was fear and endless faff with gear that ended it for me

You need to join the clipstick revolution! I can’t be arsed with all the faff either. I just want to climb and clip the bolts these days*. I am lucky enough to have all the South Wales sandstone within easy reach, plus of course Cheddar 😰.

*I’m just waiting for the all the old gits to shuffle off so we can bolt up some of the once popular, but now neglected crags. DO NOT mention this on UKC.

Same here. Tried to post on the Weekend/midweek ride thread. ‘Image too large’. NO IT IS NOT! Now the editor has changed to some basic thing.
Again I question why I’m paying for this pile of poo. 🙄

Well I have some pictures of the usual ‘Stick man Friday’ ride, but they refuse to upload as the dialogue box claims they must be Jpeg etc (which of course they are) and must be under 10mb (which of course they are).

Why the **** am I supporting this place? Seriously considering going back to being a freeloader.

Can you brush these products in or do they have to be careful applied to every gap.

The joint-it product that I used is just brushed in with water. Very easy to use. It seems to have survived the winter so far.

“kept his manufacturing in the UK”

Probably a lot to do with the military contracts? Similar to Snug pack/Brett Harris who still manufacture some stuff in the UK.

I never had the Buffalo tops, but I have two of the Montane clones that are superior in many ways. Fantastic kit if you like the warm fug feeling.

First Tent I ever owned was the classic Force Ten Mk4. Went halves on it with my brother and bought it from a mini chain of shops called Wilderness ways. Well I think they had more than one shop. Took the Tent to Europe on a canoe trip and ended up trapped in the Oetz (sp) valley in a massive storm that flooded the campsite. We correctly pitched the tent and because it was new, the tub style groundsheet with the fancy welded seam was watertight. Waterbed heaven, with slight worry that the flood level would start to overwhelm the groundsheet.

Different rules in Wales. To bring the house up to the standard for the scheme (at the time) the solution suggested was . . .  External insulation and a wind turbine!

Upshot was a new oil boiler and since we only consume around 1000 litres a year it was a no brainer. £5k for the boiler or £12k for the heat pump + external insulation + the turbine. Never happening.

And don’t get me started on the location of the ASHP that was needed to comply with the rules. I can hear the neighbours oil boiler (external wall unit) when it fires up, but the ASHP had to on the opposite side of our house so they weren’t disturbed by the noise.

I tried to do the right thing, but gave up.

I used Marmox board in various thicknesses. Glued and plastic nailed to the existing plaster. Walls are 18′ inch solid stone.

Word of warning though. If you need to up the thermal r value for an EPC, there is a minimum thickness*. Our internal insulation at between 15 to 20 mm does not count and the wall is logged as an uninsulated solid wall. Good bye grant for a heat pump.

*This may have changed as the work was done in 2016.

Is there another ‘influencer’* on the Tube who does as much to engage with the local kids?

*Apologies for that word. Off to punish myself with a big stick now.

Do you have to remove the cranks?.

From memory, you can’t get one of the covers off with the cranks/chain rings fitted

    Marko
    Full Member

    Pretty simple.
    Remove the battery.
    Remove the cranks.
Remove the chain ring lock. Left hand thread! There is a special tool for this, but you can release it with a hammer and soft drift (brass).
Remove the covers – note the bolts are a different length
Slacken all the mounting bolts and then remove the front bolt. At this point you can pivot the motor up and see the cable routing.
Take a picture, because the electrical connections/loom are stuffed in there.
At this point you fiddle with the cables and with a bit of faffage that is as far as you need to go.
If you want the motor out completely then disconnect the wiring plugs and remove the remaining motor bolts.

NOTE: One of the bolts (or both) use a wedge system similar to the alternator on a car to ensure the frame is not crushed by the motor bolt. You may have to reset this.

Can we just not have a stand alone GPX file, that we can load into our go to mapping app?
