There is no excuse for passing a downed rider in my mind. If you are not sure then go and check as the OP did.

But they could not read the signs that said it was a MTB DH trail..

In the plan for coming years so will watch this with interest. Given the travel time is a week long enough?

I agree that if that trail is red then it is the toughest red I have seen. If you were first on scene then some others with you would have helped I am sure. No excuse for riding past a fallen MTB’r and not checking if he is okay. No excuse for that in any book as far as I am concerned. It sounds like a bad off.

When you were on scene it would have been good had at least one of the riders asked if all was okay. Again this is no more that a common courtesy to a fellow rider. You may have waved them on or you may have asked for help. Even though his mate had “gone for help” I would still have called the emergency service based on your description of the injury. His mate would have taken at least 10-15 mins to get down and that is if he made it down okay with all the adrenalin flowing.

Healing vibes to the injured rider. Sounds like it will be sore for a while.

How was his bike, before anyone else asks.

Well done BTW for doing the right thing and helping.

Be wary of standard travel insurance as it may not cover you in a lift assisted resort.

Please expand… could affect a lot of people here. I generally find that “Mountainbiking Non-competitive” (or similar) should cover most bases, maybe i should look closer in future!

When I first went to Morzine I looked at standard travel insurance. I cant remember who but it was about £10 for the week. The trouble is I could not see exactly how the defined mountain biking. It seemed very ambiguous to me and I could not get any clarity when I phoned. I went with Snowcard in the end. I guess what I am saying is the policy may just be fore riding along bridle ways on a mountain bike in the insurer’s eyes and there fore you may not be covered for your helicopter ride of the Plenney after a big huck over a road gap jump.

If you go with standard travel insurance I would advise you confirm with them exactly what is and more importantly what is not covered. Get this in writing as well and take it with you.

I have taken out Snowcard but again have not had to use them. Be wary of standard travel insurance as it may not cover you in a lift assisted resort.

Thanks for the story. It does just go to show what can happen and it is a great reminder. I hope that you both get over this and get back out to Morzine. You will not have seen it but there is some great riding out there. I reckon that you must need another holiday now at home just to get over the last “holiday”. I hope your partner gets well and back on the bike soon. I guess he owes you a dinner or something now.

You need to find out where the air is coming from. Stuff I have seen are: valve stem to rim leak, spoke holes due to bad rim tape, bead to rim due to damaged rim and or bead. I have not tried tubeless with Conti’s but I have had issues with very porous Panaracers.

Check that the bead and rim is clean and undamaged and soap it up when you fit it. I use a wall paper pasting tray(prepasted paper) to check for leaks, big enough to get a good section of rim and tyre under water and not needing too much water to do.

I would be wary of using white spirit to clean the inside as white spirit tends to leave and oily residue IME. Meths or IPA would be better I reckon.

Bad news on the crash Dan, at least you got it on video. I noticed that the lift was not running. Was fatigue a factor after full days riding? Healing vibes for a quick mend. How is the Heckler BTW after your off?

Edit: just noticed lift on the left was running so not end of day ride.

I used to have a boat years ago. It was good fun but I had an awful lot more disposable income back then. Not sure I could afford it not to be honest. It was a 16ft Dateline Bounty with a Suzuki 115hp outboard 10 gallon tank up front. Great boat with good memories.

Not gone up with an adjustable post but I reckon it will clear okay. Drop a line to Nevis Range as I am sure this will not be the first time this will have been asked of them.

Not the smartest thing to have done TBH. I do not think that much thought went into it before hand either, well thought for others that is.

Rule of thumb is always keep tyre levers away when refitting tyre with tubes. Thumbs should be ample for getting them back on.

Pulling on the centre pin that the pads retain on to is a no no assuming tit is the same as Hayes 9. This will very easily be broken off and then your piston is knackered. Get some compressed air in to the back of the cylinder and wrap a cloth round the front to catch the cylinder.

Exactly, they wont ban mountain biking because of one illegal event.

No you are correct mountain biking will not be banned in the UK but it could end up being banned at this location. So the actions of a few will have stopped many others responsibly using a valuable resource.

Completely agree, if an individual decides to do something deemed to be wrong, then that person should (as I do) accept what may be coming to them as a result.

The problem with this statement though is that it is not just the individuals that may suffer due to this action.

As someone who was riding up one of the two way trails on Leith Hill last night when they all came hurtling down, it wasn’t fun at all.

No one was around to warn of the on coming pleb fest, the guys at the front were all head down racing, I was forced to get off the trail or risk getting hit.

It was basically like trying to ride against the starting field of an xc race.

Oh and no one has mentioned the direction signs nailed to trees yet?

Given that a biker felt threatened by the mob coming down the hill then one can only guess at what local walkers felt like. Not the smartest move by the organisers IMO. The good work done by the local MTB support groups with the rangers will have taken a knock I reckon.

That is the flint on the SDW for you. As has been said patching will keep this tube going for miles to come yet. I have several similar slashes fixed on mine and run them tubeless no worries.

The tube/air will try and make that weak spot larger so yo will need to reinforce it. I have done this successfully with tube patches or chunks of old inner tube and normal tube patching glue. Clean the inside of the tyre in the same way as cleaning the tube and just patch it. If using a piece cut out of an old tube make sure it is clean and rough the surface a little. Apply the vulcanising solution to both and leave to go tacky. Then firmly press into place. Don’t forget to cover the patch with talc etc to stop any excess glue sticking to the inner tube.

Milk carton/toothpaste tube are great for on the trail but may move over time. Also make sure you have no corners.

If the lever is tight when pulled and does not reach the bar then contaminated pads sounds favourite. Did you have them well out of the way when you bled the brakes? Contaminated pads can be cleaned by baking them or heating with a gas torch or similar apparently. Never tried it my self. Isoprpyl alcohol will sort the disks of any contamination. bedding in new pads will help ensure a good working life from your new pads.

rake fluid, oils and grease are the death of pads as rule of thumb so keep then well apart.

I have used 2.35 High Rollers tubeless in the Alps with out any issues if that helps.

Tubeless will be fine for the Alps based on my experience. Yeah you may rip the tyre as I did once on the rocks, single ply but seen dual ply sliced open as well, so carry tubes and tyre boots with you. Blue Peter tyre boots from milk carton or toothpaste tube.

Take the valve core out to make reseating tubleless and if you are still struggling then CO2 or look up Ghetto inflator.

I have a similar issue with a set of old Hayes 9 and they work but I know that they are shot. They need regular bleeding to keep them running. When I have the spare cash I will swap them out. I would not accept this from a new brake. The fact that you have had two with same issue I wonder if if it is a batch issue?

I have Saints and they are a great brake and no weeping from joints on mine.

I have Reba’s on a couple of my bikes, one as supplied the other was an upgrade. I have to say that they are very good and have been bullet proof so I would have another.

Sorry but this is thread closed. You have asked for advice which has been given but you chose, which is your right, to ignore it. I would ask though if you were going to ignore it why ask for the advice in the first place.
