Been a while since I have had/worked on but is this not just cup and cone bearing set to far to one side of the axle. As I recall you used to be able to have more free axle on one side vs the other if you did not build correctly. If you have been filling out the drop outs then the forks are FUBAR’d now any way. The QR is only meant to stop the wheel coming out and not stop it moving fore and aft in the drop out

How old is the bike? You’ve not had the wheel out since Decathlon built it?

I suppose you could assume the wheel was not seated in the dropout when they built the bike, and ask them to investigate?

    If I read this correctly….

Next up borrow a front wheel from anyone – stick it in your fork – is the wheel aligned or the same as yours? If it is the same as yours you have bent or broken the fork.

    done this mates was same,

By same I assume OP means that same as his wheel, eg offset, then it cant be the wheel. This can be confirmed by putting OP wheel in mates bike. What bike is that in the background? Can that be used to help isolate the fault?

Not here. Hardtail and full suss and love them both on what ever trail.

    Yes and yes.

As I recall the 21 in en521 is the rim width. The kit you showed is good for the 221 which will also be the same 21mm width. double check yourself here http://www.notubes.com/help_center_rim_strips.aspx

I have never had any issues with Maxxis tyres. Again there is more info on the Stans site.

If it is leaking from the rim/bead then check the rim for damage and then give it a good clean. Lumps of old sealant etc can cause a problem. If it is coming from the tyre wall, I have found Panaracer tyres to be very porous, then you need to get some sealant in there. The Stans site has a great video on how to do this. http://www.notubes.com/helpcenter/videopopup.php?id=3

I use Class 4 cards in mine and not had any issues.

Video footage is good but audio is poor. Wind noise is the issue but I think all have pretty lousy audio.

If you put the wheel on top of a bucket you can the dribble some water in to the valley between the tyre and the rim. Bubbles will show you where the leak is. Also if you wipe the tyre wall with a strong soapy solution on a rag I have found that this is good for finding leaky tyre walls.

Best way to check is to put the tyre and rim into water. If you have a tray for dipping pre pasted wallpaper in I have found them to be very good for this. The valve stem has been a usual leak point IME.

Don’t forget the bite valve. So many bugs etc in your mouth that this can get a bit ropey as well.

Awwww I have to watch mine, he starts hitting the bike with a big adjustable spanner or sticking allen keys into it.

Where did he learn that then??? 😀

As andyl says. If it is the bearings then no but if it is a loose cup etc then yes.

Carpet underlay etc under the turbo frame will help take some of the vibration noise out. I have this tyre on my elastogel turbo and it works a treat.

What turbo have you got as some do make more noise than others.

If it is anything like washing down tents etc then it is pure soap flakes and NOT detergent of any type. The surfactants in the detergents will let the water through and will also stop any reproofing as I recall.

    Some things I would check:-
Chain ring(s) aligned to crank correctly.
    Correct chain tension.
    Chain not too long?
    Rear mech spring okay.
    Rear mech free to move.

As has been said you will not stop all the possible chips and rubs but if you can stop most. An inner tube wrapped round the rear stays is good as well. and I protected the underside of the downtube/BB with part of an old tyre. Sods law though that a bit I did not cover with helitape has chipped paint.

Also as has been said do not rush it. Take your time and have fun and get a nice job done. Another tip for you is not to have corners on your patches. cut the corners round not straight lines.

IPA is Isopropanol alcohol in my post. Available from the chemist locally or of Ebay I believe. It is a computer cleaner solution used to be used on disk and tape heads etc.

The bike needs to be clean and dry. Cut your tape into custom patches to fit where required. Clean the area to be patched with IPA or Meths. Get your hair dryer out and pre warm the area of the frame. Carefully peel the backing off and apply the patch warming it with your hair dryer. This will then get the tape nicely into all the nooks and crannies.

I have had Snowcard before. I have never used then but spoke to others at the resort who have and they rate them. Check what the holiday insurance company means by Mountain biking. Theirs may not be the same as yours.

I bought some Spesh BG shoes a few years ago and I am not impressed with them. The red sole started to come adrift after about 18 months. I used a winter boot through the wet stuff so it was not a full 18 months of use. After some failed repairs I cut it away altogether. Both shoes went in the same way.

The winter boot is the Spesh Defroster and this is holding up well so far and seems to be money well spent. I will not get any more Spesh BG shoes though.

I reckon I would be away from the ‘business end’ as well. 😉

Give them a call Hora to be sure but I reckon that all is well. I frequently stay away in hotels etc and they take card details on booking. No money is taken until I arrive. I guess if I failed to turn up then they would charge me for the room on the details I had left them.

The fact that you made the booking after March suggests even more that all is well.

Hora, best check with the hotel directly re your booking. Was it cash or credit card that was used to pay as you may have some protection on credit if it is needed.

If the company that runs the hotel was wound up back in March then why has this information taken so long to have come out? Given that so many of STW ride/stay at GT I would have thought something would have been noticed before. As I recall the hotel had a Mothers Day special. Also if it had gone bust I would have thought that we would have comments from disgruntled staff or customers turned away from a locked door.

Mrs Bony told us yesterday: “Glentress Hotel Ltd is a dormant trading company which has nothing to do with GT Restaurants Ltd and thus has no impact whatsoever on the running of the cafe or, indeed, the hotel, which is open for business as usual.”

The suggestion from the above is that the hotel is now part of GT Restaurant or some other company.

I have been in the position of having to travel to off site meetings for many years with various companies. The rule has always been the same. You claim the mileage from your normal place of work and back. This is not a company rule but HMRC.

Never had a problem with Maxis std tyre in a tubeless environment. Panaracer on the other hand is not so good.

JRA tape has worked well for me. The last bike has used it for about 4 years and the previous bike must be about 7 years I reckon. Clean the frame, IPA, and then warm the tape when applying. I pre warmed the frame a bit last time as well if that helps.

Not often you get a good news story but on balance. My most recent order was placed on a Wednesday and delivered on Saturday. Seems fair enough to me at the moment.

I always had inner and outer plate, 3 roller/pins, equals one link. The half link chains tend to support that belief but I have never used one.

Not checked the instructions in a while now but recall that Sram supported the big to big plus 2 concept.

Great news that you are back with the land of the living. All the best on a speedy and full recovery. What shape is your helmet in given that you have forgotten a chunk of time. I assume you will be replacing it. If not I would suggest that you bin it and get a new one before you get back on the bike.

BTW any pictures or in STW words “it did not happen” 😀

Re the pump I have one of these for a while and really rate it. http://www.wiggle.co.uk/lezyne-micro-floor-drive-hv-abs-pump-without-gauge/#more

Re the slash in the tyre patch it and it will be as good as new. I have had some gashes seal and others not. Have you got the tubeles repair kit? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=7971 I have got the Panaracer one and rate that. Good for fixing holes so that the sealant can do its job when that are a bit to large.

I have used my pump on road tyres a few times and it has done the job.
