Road narrowing/chicanes is not the answer. when you throw cycles into the equation they are actually quite dangerous.

i think you probably are but to get confirmation I would have to personally witness you in action. Don’t worry though, I would be on standby just in case you changed your mind partway through. :D

    Steve,
Do you know anyone with a tamdem that you could borrow for the pub crawl?

I think last week was the week for stupid offs, I was fetched off my bike by a snail on Thursday night, swerved to go round it and put my front wheel onto some moss covered tarmac which I then had a very close look at. That was the last one I ever try to go around, the rest of the slimy gits will get squashed.

If you are going near gairloch can also recommend badachro, worth a scramble up to the fairy lochs to see the wreckage of the ww2 liberator bomber which went down with the loss of all the crew, really eerie place with a prop sticking out me the water and bits of landing gear and aluminium strewn everywhere.

Yes i have used one previously. Beautifully made over complicated solution to a non-problem is how i would sum it up. Cant see the point in going to the trouble of taking the sfn out to use it so will most likely not bother.

Road pedals are good when you get used to them, the single sided thing is a bit of a pain.
I use road pedals on my tt bike but for everything else it’s MTB SPD’s they are much easier to walk in, I always feel like I’m wearing 6″ stilletos when tottering about in my road shoes.

Are you using the on-one chaintugs?

Take them off, put some grease on them where they touch the frame and where the QR goes through them, then refit, squeek will probably be gone.

Throw the head doctor in the bin where it belongs, fit a SFN, get the correct sized seatpost for your frame and stop being hamfisted.

    Hope this helps

Great fun bike, I like the way even I could wheelie mine.

Blastit, the On-one chainrings aren’t ramped so might struggle to shift across from granny to middle ring as there won’t be any pins to pick the chain up, I have thought of trying it though but just not got around to it.
My steel 456 used to do it (xt HT11 chainset), I cured it by putting all of the BB spacers on teh drive side, worth a try.

    Phil,

    Whereabouts did your ti456 fail?

I own a ti456, owned a steel 456 and have ridden the soul, in comparison the soul felt a bit more flexy and slower but that could have been down to the difference in build kit. The ti456 feels a bit more smooth at speed than both, I think the soul would be my choice after the ti and before the steel 456 if that makes sense.

If you buy the park ones they also have the crimping area on them for the cable end caps, not strictly neccesary but will make the job much easier and more professional.

You could use lighter fluid like the 4x4ists do in iceland, squirt some inside the tyre, light and hey-ho the tyre is popped onto the rim and inflated instantly…

    Or buy a compressor.

See the trail guide up top, pretty decent riding around East Mids if you like natural/bridleway type riding with nobody around.

Already got a ti456 so not much point changing for something which will ride very similar, if I hadn’t already got it I would think about it though as love the way the 456 rides.
    W@nk name though…

I’ll give you £5 for it as it is now scrap :D

Seriously though, as annoying as it is that is still rideable and will probably go for another few years yet.

N78 here with opera mini installed as standard browser not much use. Use it to pick up my emails, can set up googlemail accounts and others to download to phone at regular intervals. Keyboard too small for banana fingers but otherwise ok.

Been running full SLX since November now, when you use it for a period of time you can see where the costs have been cut out relative to XT. So far had to replace middle and large chainrings on the chainset and the jockey wheels on teh rear mech, XT use sealed bearings, SLX use bushes which wear out.

the oil in the spring leg doesn’t really do much other than lube the seals. There is a circlip which holds the u-turn bit on, take this off (beware the ball bearings and sprinds which give the adjuster the ‘nothces’) and replace the o-ring underneath it, job done. Not worth paying £10 postage to replace a 10p part IMO.
