I have the battery in the headtube using a battery grip and a bung at the bottom made from an old grip with a hole in the end. There is then a wire going to the display/control box on the bars. Then one lead to the shifter and one long lead following the gear cable routing down to the rear mech. I run it as 1×11 so no need for an extra junction box to run two shifters.
Works very well and about as neat as I could manage without routing cables internally.
I’m running 1×11 XTR and have had no problems at all catching wires etc.
I have the battery in the steerer tube using the Shimano seatpost mount and a rubber plug at the bottom of the steerer where the cable pops out and goes to the junction box on the bars and then 1 single run of cable down to the rear mech.
It’s true there aren’t that many benefits on a 1×11 but you can always add the front mech later and it all just works and works and works no matter what slop you ride in.
I was at Hampton Court on the last corner when Wiggins won gold in 2012. The noise as he went past was unbelieveable… it died down slightly until 10 seconds or so later when he crossed the line to win and it erupted again, only louder!
Not the greatest sporting achievement ever, but the culmination of having won the Tour, then rung the bell at the opening ceremony and then this just seemed to make the whole crowd/country behind him.
I have a Dirty Disco as a Road/Commuter/CX bike and have found it to be great (no mudguard mounts though).
I originally had it set up with a flat bar but now have wide road drops with Shimano hydraulic discs. It was great with a narrow bar for commuting but now I do more road/cx the drops work well. Have run it with 28s but I expect you could go much bigger.
@chocolateteapot – our chalet slept 5 in own rooms and was €750 for a week. We flew with our bikes which was about £200. Lift pass £80ish. Definitely money well spent.
