Play – good idea with the upside down mounting, will try that – but also the hoep bracket – this one?
if yes – how do you attach the lamp to the bracket?

Ajantom – I tired a bit of inner tube and it still swivelled.

There are no obvious way sof attaching it with zip ties either. suppose i could try and drill some holes in teh bottom for zip ties.

the problem is the lamp is quite heavy with the weight up high so it really has to be attached tightly.

Anyone else got any bright ideas?

Ewangronk – good effort. How did the youngest cope? I have a daughter who will be one soon and I want to go touring with her next spring. I have a triler and just wondered how she coped? was it pretty much she slept and when she woke up you took her out adn played with ehr a bit then she was happy sitting watching the world go by? what did she sleep in?

Sorry for all the questions, would just love to do something like what you did and haven’t really heard of people touring with a one year old before.

    Cheers

i would be tempted to get one as my preset POS is driving me up the wall with how slow it is, the only thing holding me back is i am waiting for low light review, if it can only shoot up to iso200 then becomes too noisy then i wont bother. but i am hoping there will be some clever electronic thingmajig that helps with low light performance.

any decent reviews out there yet?

I also over did the carbo loading till 3am on friday night, and struggled my way around it with a banging head ache and dehydration. The cramp kick in just before the river crossing and moral dropped as I was not looking forward to cramping for the rest of it. To the guy who gave me some electrolytes by the river- you are my hero,if you are on here, let yourself be know as i would like to send you some beer!!! I think they made the difference between finishing and mountain rescue! I had to limp home and could not put any effort in otherwise I would cramp, but at least I managed to get home with some gentle spinning

great route though and the first descent was carnage, people falling off left right and centre as i went down it.

Will def come back adn do it again next eyar without the pre race piss up! and maybe a lighter bike!

A great event with great organisation, thanks to the marhsalls and all the that gave up their time to help put this event on.

Messiah – thank you, your info has been good and helpful.

i think the choice sits now for :

    1. hutchinson , sleep there and leave stuff and recollect ont eh way back down
    2. the route you did as a circular leavign early in the morning.

I am the person riding with rugbydick, what is the climb / carry like up the Srion Riach to the top? is it all a carry?

Not worried if it is, just need to set my expectations right. I prefer the sound of this as it is a circular route, not fond of out and backs.

But then again. I do fancy a night out so the hutchinson idea of going there, leave stuff there and go up and back out collecting stuff on the way out is very appealing.

    to many decisions!!!

do you have a big window in a room that faces east? if so then i would just use natural light early in the morning. bit of a photo geak myself and any time i used flash when my daughter was young then she woudl get shocked adn cry a bit or wake her up.

the thinkg that makes the most difference are the props, all teh cool baby pics i have seen are the babies on really cosy looking blankets or funny little cute hats etc…

other tips i learnt, super heat the room so that it is nearly unbearable, it sends them to sleep easily and makes them easy to move about, fill them up with milk as well just before. if you want them ‘au naturel’ have a few blankets around to catch any accidents and alos take the nappy off a bit before so there are no pressur eline sin the skin.

it took me three different attempts before i go pictures that i liked.

and congrats on being a dad.

totally agree with funkyduc – we told our close friends as soon as we knew, it was them that we woudl need if somethign was to go wrong. I completely don’t understand keeping it a secret for 3 months. It is far to exciting a enws to keep it to your self, i wanted to tell everyone who would listen!

    congratultions to you both.

I have jsut bought a pendle one, although they don’t look as flash as the thule ones, mine is so much more solid than my mates Thule, i bought it to carry DH bikes on the back of the car. I tried a thule and found the wheelbase was too short on these racks to get Dh bikes in. Also was not a fan of having to ratchet the rack as tight as possibel to the towbar to stop it rotating.

    would recommend Pendle.

Excuse my ignorance, but how can a bike have an optimum chain ring size? Is bob not a matter of the suspension design and shock dampening? How can a chain ring size influence this?

so how did it go fraser?

I decided not to go out, was going to go to Beinn A’Bhuird and sleep on top but think I will keep it for the first clear night we have from now.

fraser – which one you planning on? I was planning one but think it might get postponed till better weather, no point sleeping on top of a munro when you can’t see anything but grey and it is raining!

La grave hasn’t got the best biking, it is a bit too steep and there is not much scope there, probably 2 days worth. Just down the valley you have Les Deux alpes and Alp d’huez about an hour away, and in the other direction you have got mont genevre and les Orres again about an hour away and are all good.

if you want to stay in la grave there are two decent campsites, but it is quite a sleepy little town and if you go down to Briancon there are a lot more campsites and activities on offer.

Are you after DH riding or more xc riding?

love the TDF road gap picture. I am still trying to find it in a poster size print so I can frame it and hang it up on the wall.
