I’m not criticising anyone for actions taken just pointing out that its hard to realistically say what you, I, or anyone would do if in the hot seat on the mountainside. Having met a few organised commercial climbing groups in the Himalayas I would rate the chances of them attempting to rescue you or me as very low indeed.

I think that hopefully we would all choose to help our fellow dying man or woman in the circumstance. However the size and scale of Everest is hard to comprehend when looking at it in the flesh so to speak. If ascending then yes I’d like to think we would all stop and help. If descending and having run low or out of oxygen and suffering from the onset of HACE or PACE and barely managing to keep yourself alive the answer may be very different. Such judgement calls I believe cannot be made whilst sitting at home. Presumably we all like to think we would do the right thing but the answer could only be found out if you were in the hot seat on the mountain.

Altitude and its effects are very hard to understand unless you’ve experienced it and felt what it does to your body and brain. Unfortunately like lots of things in life mountaineering has become commercialised and you no longer have to be invited to join an expedition but just need the cash to pay for it. Hence lots of your fellow climbers would not have built up a relationship with you on the rope so sadly would not give up ambitions and dreams to help you and will highly likely be incapable of doing so anyway. I’ve a mate who was a commercial guide on Everest who says he could spot the people from day one who had no chance of summiting and unfortunately these are the people who would need to help you if things go wrong. The media loves stories of high altitude disaster but I would say it really is just a case of pay your money take bigger chances climbing with people you don’t know.

Well after watching the links of Miley on this thread I’m a fan.
Lily is O.K. radio pop. Gaga is terrible but a wonderful self promoter.

Depends what you see as need or want?
I own my house, leave at 7:30 home by 4:45. Have good mates and a top Mrs. Get to do lots of biking and climbing and lots of holidays. Don’t have or want a flash life and probably earn a lot less than the braggers. However I’m happy with my lot and don’t compare myself to others to feel how happy I am. Off biking for the weekend now :)

Rab down jackets and Photon are excellent. Wore the Photon nearly everyday for 6 months on a big climbing biking trip up to 6000m altitude no complaints at all. Alpkit sleeping bags are good value as well. Bought some Sherpa gear at their main shop in Kathmandu and zip broke next day. However they replaced it and was fine. Met the headhoncho in the store and he was a very nice man. Lowe Alpine stuff is good and North Face has always been good for me as well. Podsac make good climbing sacks if that’s your thing.

Went to the Green Man this year. Good site, stayed on the Camper Van field. Was very chilled out. Saw some good bands and lectures but for the price the main stage headliners very dissapointing. The smaller stages much better. All a bit civilised compared to what I remember when I used to go to a lot about 15 years ago. My jury is still out if that’s a good or bad thing.

I like the NHS, they saved my life and I didn’t have to sell my house to pay for the pleasure of being alive still.

    Close personal protection?
I worked in a road today where a man was stabbed on Saturday in revenge for a shooting last week.
A kid robbed the local bank with a toy gun and his mum called the police on finding a shoebox full of money under his bed.
Kid over the road with 3 summer mates beat a homeless guy to death round the back of Iceland supermarket.
One local shop was petrol bombed.
I was wearing a tight fitting high vis vest. Does that count as close personal protection?

I shout ding ding and cheerily ask if they like my organic bell? Seems to work though I find when hooning down a descent walkers get out the way and a yelled thank you gets a smile. Unfortionatly some planks on both sides seem to think they are in the right and have no need to compromise.

My IT skills don’t run that well at the moment I’m afraid. Pretty simple set up really, currently in a pile on the sofa with man flu, when I can be arsed moving again without leaking snot everywhere I’ll see if I can sort some pictures out for you.

VW T4 myself. Futon in the back built up for storage boxes underneath and folds out to a full size bed. All bought from Ikea (awful awful place to waste a Saturday)
Double swivel seat in front fitted last week. Can fit 3 complete bikes in back behind drivers and passenger double seat. Self insulated, lined and carpeted. If sleeping wild we can manage both bikes in the front on the seats and have the bed out. Tinted side windows myself very easy and used as a work van. I’d get a LWB if I didn’t have to park around the city in tight parking. All designed on the back of an envelope in my lunch break. Off the peg ones are way out of my budget.
Get good sleeping sorted, once I’d got the van personally I use it a lot for holidays. Mrs Marin has stayed in some very nice hotel carparks over the years!

They only use them 1 or 2 nights a week and still rely on central heating mainly. More of a romantic night with the Mrs. You don’t work for the council do you? 8O

That’s not the scouse way camo. Have got a mate near Wavertree High Street with one and also one up near Hope Uni who found his burner in a skip. They’ve had no problem for a few years. Would get one fitted myself but have no chimney alas. Few areas near town there is wood galore avalaible that’s well dried and legal.

Go look at it a few times if you think you want it and go and see the immeadiate area on several occasions at different times. As said above look at the kitchen, bathroom and layout, you are not buying the contents and be realistic on the work you can do or would have to pay for. Ask them why they are selling and see if they get a nervous tick before they start telling fibs.

You got my sympathy. If someone dented my VW van I’d be well cheesed off. It may be a work horse but has lots of great memories from weekend useage. Its just plain rude unless I backed into a BMW.

Sefton Park is very nice for running and lots of bars, restaurants on Lark Lane. As stated most of north Liverpool is best ignored and too far from the Uni. Could try short term let to get a feel for the place and see where suits best. Ex lecturer lives up our road and rents out a room to uni students short term for such purposes. City centre is full of flats you can get on short lets. Once you get past the stereotypes and accent its actually a very friendly city all over.

    My house!
Though if I wasn’t with a scouse bird I’d be back on the Wirral. Nice riding, good beaches, easy access to Liverpool.
Depends what she likes doing really. Give us a clue.

Really I would have ignored it. I see such appalling driving whilst riding and driving it amazes me but as stated he’s a moron and would never see your point. Only winding yourself up I fear.
