yeah unfortunately he’s not that much of a climber though, he only managed 2 mins on Cav on the first mountain stage.

Or so he’s led the majority of people to believe. He’s the very definition of an outside favourite for yellow in my eyes.

The mind boggles… Realman, have you been watchin Le Tour/Sagan.

you’ve missed the point….even if it was 60 helmets its no big deal to these massive teams. Have you ever seen their Service De Course ?? How many teams have helmets with no vents other than Sky (excluding those minging giro’s that have just been introduced which a lot of riders wont wear.)

It highlights them as the leading team so cant see why it would be an issue to the 3 or 4 teams that are likely to occupy that spot.

what …an extra 9 helmets in yellow per team. Not sure that’ll cripple the likes of sky and radio shack. Bearing in mind that about 15 teams wont even bother (cofidis, sojur, europcar etc)

Not sure why you find it odd.

BTW, is the yellow helmet for the leading team a new thing? Can’t remember it before

Think it might just be a thing sky are doing.

    No its not.

Its the leading team…new for this year (helmets that is..not competition).

From friends who were there at the gig, yes it is. For you, no. I delighted in seeing Cud last week and they were as brilliant as they were 20 years ago – but I doubt they would make your top 5 either.

    We’re all different.

How were cud ? thinking off going to Holmfirth for them and Weddoe’s.

I think he looked a bit of a bell during the celebration.

looked a bell….ha ha, whatever. He has just given fabu and EBH a lesson in riding and picked up his 340th win of the season.

    He’s f’ckin class.

Can believe so many top riders lost huge chunks of time on a 7 min course yesterday (Scarponi, Sanchez, cry baby Schleck)

You can’t believe climbers lost time to generalists or time trial specialists? I hope you say the same when people lose 10 mins on big mountains to climbers on the final ascent of the day.

    ??

I can believe that nibali, ryder , menchov all managed to limit their losses yesterday.

As for other GC riders Schleck, Basso, Sanchez, Scarponi, V D Broeck. Are they any less of ‘specialist’ than Menchov (who generally falls off) or Hesjedal. Just amazed that on such a short course they could lose heaps of time.

Cuddles ….no chance. Stage 1, teams watching him like a hawk, everyone fresh.

Can believe so many top riders lost huge chunks of time on a 7 min course yesterday (Scarponi, Sanchez, cry baby Schleck)

A non GC contender will win today. Will be perfect for a Sanchez, Valv, Sagan or Gilbert.

Gilbert will be up for it given his poor season to date and Belgian finish.

People forget that Evans can TT and by Wiggins’ own admission, there’ll be no fireworks from him in the mountains. I suspect it’ll be indurain type riding fronm Twiggo, with his team simply riding so fast as to deter attacks.

I still have concerns over Wiggins performing every day in the mountains given his Vuelta performace. He has a fantastic team this year though. Good ride from Tejay yesterday and no doubt he will be glued to Evans when it goes uphill. Hope Ryder has recovered as his team is also strong.

Hope it isnt a 2 horse race to Paris.

Froome for podium ??? (dont think so but would be nice if he drags Wiggo round the hills and finishes high)

chiopsandgravy – Saw it a couple of months ago – its the nuts. Thats BMX to me, drops, transfers, proper street, banks. The rail at 1:23 is disgusting. :-) (proper tunes to accompany)

    could watch that all day

This was on bike rumor. to me a lot of it stinks. Trick Ferretts.

Dont get me wrong – it looks tech and hard but quad whips, double flips etc just leave me cold. Circus tricks.

Show me doyle, alcanatra, mihelich, van homan. Would rather see a slow 3 over a massive set rather than some double flip with a barspin. A street gap or wallride than no handed front flip in a comp.

    Has bmx moved on ???

Its tricky – tom boonen is 6’4″- rides a 60 and has a 140mm stem. Yes he is pro and belgian(stem!) but just pointing out that sizing isnt an exact science.

Have looked at MTBR and faffed about. Dont think it can be done on a Scott Scale. A 2.25 Nobby Nic on a 26″ actally wore away at chainstays when muddy the clearance was that close. 2.1 didnt have much more clearance so guessing I would struggle with 650b unless I ran a super skinny tyre which isnt what I was after. :|

the descent through Brinscall is mint. Super slippy when wet. Perfect if heading from Tockholes to rivvy or can do a loop up towards great hill from cricket ground and back round.

…..and its just started to rain :(

    Margin-Walker

Its all in good nick, especially if its been dry (as it has).

San marino is quite cut up (IMO)but thats something thats been happening over last few months – always a blast though. The woods in brinscall are always good. Back of cricket ground at W Coppice. H Nab holding up well and goood for a few fastlaps at the end of a ride.

    Cant knock the place. :-)

Another fantastic race and a few new faces. Rain held off and over 60 riders again. Back to Clayton Vale for round 3 then onto the water park.

    See you there.

Stans tape, stans jizz and valve’s.

Conti’s in my experience go up really easily on Stans rims.

Currently running Race Kings on 355’s and they went up with a track pump with alarming ease (compared to Nobby Nics in the past)

Just the way it is innit.

I sold a bike 2 weeks ago. Was messed about by somone local (not from STW) to me for a week. Said he would have bike subject to seeing it (albeit I had sent 20+ photo’s). He cancelled 3 times to view citing work commitments etc. He then texted me to arrange another time to view and I had sold it to someone else. He wasnt happy but someone else was much more efficient and turned up with cash.

Cancellara – clean as fooking whistle. Been awesome all way through his career with steady development from his start with mapai and fassa to the awesome rider he is now.

So something similar to Armstrong who was World Road Race Champion long before he ever rode the Tour.

Er ……no. Armstrong’s palmares pre cancer was wholly incomparable to Fabu’s. World’s aside ( a win that really endured him to the cycling world (not) and is always a lottery – good ride that it was) and Tours and LA has won FW and San Seb. Thats it !! (and he rode tour 18 months after winning Worlds)

Fabu could barely finish the classics when he was 21 but slowly got better. MSR, E3, Flanders, Roubaix. The two riders couldnt be more different.

has cancellara won Fleche Wallone ???
    Dont think so.
Or do you mean Mur de Grammont in Flanders ??
Yeh, different Mu(u)r, same phenomenon – esp as he rode Boonen off his wheel and made him look about as slow as me

Couldnt be more different. Have you seen Fleche. Armstrong (as did Vandenbrouke) destroyed a ‘charged’ field up the final climb in a ridiculous gear and a ‘look at me fashion’. Cancellara was favourite to win Flanders (his speciality) and simlply attacked Boonen (who was struggling that season)where nearly every rider who wins flanders attacks. Sat down in a big gear but then again he has only been World time trial champ 4 years on the bounce so may know something about turning a gear.

Bad Blood’s a good read, and incidentally J Whittle wrote Millars biog which IMO wasnt particularly sympathetic towards Millar.

Interesting peice in that re LA’s and Millars relationship after Millar became vocal post doping.

I find that hard to believe but I am less convinced that he was so good he was able to beat superb athletes, who were cheating, earlier in his career.

Ullrich, Mayo, Basso, Pantani, Zulle, Rumsas, Garzelli………oh, and Vino

teammates (Landis, Hamilton, Basso, Andreu, Contador)

watch Armstrong in Fleche Wallone in 96, shades of Vandenbrouke, big ring up the Mur.

(failed tests are irrelevant during these times..read Matt Rendalls
biog of Pantani and the ridiculous and systematic drug abuse throughout his career – what did he ever get dione fior , haemocrit values. I am sure LA’s UCI donations would have done him no harm)

read M Ashendens interview after testing LA’s bloods (albeitt he didnt know they were LA’s)
    LA Clean ….bolleaux.

i think it’s sad, the more great riders in the race then better for the spectators, if he’s back for the vuelta the showdown with drug cheat contador should be interesting

Scleck will get his arse kicked by C’ntador in Vuelta.

    Sandwich – Member

we all know he was second on the road

Yes to some one who was cheating, ergo he was first. The other chap was not a valid competitor a bit like a riderless horse finishing first in the national.

Pains me to say it but Contador is the best stage racer around at moment. Look at how he destroyed everyone in Giro whilst clean. And he can TT.

The Schlecks are a joke. Moaning last year that the descents were too dangerous, Frank quitting the other week for no reason (according to his DS). Moaning that Andersen wont be DS in Tour. A Schleck riding for his brother at Tour instead of going on attack. Moaning about his knee (then andersen says nothing wrong with his knee).

They cant descend, ride in the wet, cry when they are split up and A Schlecks TT ability is woeful (in context).

As someone else said on here, Evans , post worlds win has been awesome. Fleche Wallone, Strade Bianche(in Giro) with Vino -foooooking nails. Chasing Schleck in TDF with EVERYONE sat on his wheel.

And before we start on about drugs , let us not forgets frank’s 7000 Euro ‘donation’ to Dr Fuentes.

Wiggins will never have a better chance of winning TDF …..will he win it, no , cuddles will.

these xc3 spoke failures are they front or rear wheels that normally go? (or both) the idea of a pro 3 front an pro2 rear is something i never considered but does seem like a viable option if it would prevent spoke faliure.

both front and rear. More concerned at front ones going given the (lack of) abuse they get
