    Pockets.

Saddle bags are the sign of someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing and are often accompanied by brake levers pointing to the sky, a compact or triple and 27T+ cassettes.

    ?

what if you are doing an 80 mile traing ride, no cafe stop and need to carry cape, armwarmers, enough food for ride and wallet. Easy if you have 3 pockets. Not so easy if you’ve filled them up with tubes, tools , patches etc etc. A small seatpack(if you prefer) that is packed and doesnt rattle, with a good pump on frame. Sounds like sense to me.

You know that Brad Wiggins lives (approx) in your part of the world (assuming there’s no other Croston’s in the land)..?

It was indeed Twiggo and he can regularly been seen round these parts. Nice lad.

if you enjoy racing, why the hell should you ONLY DO IT IN A RACE! ? It begs the question why you do PROPER RACES!

Try racing properly and you’ll get it.

+1. Proper racing is ‘kin really hard…commuter racing is pathetic.

As for THE GAME ….FFS ! laughable.

The Rider by Tim Krabbe is awesome

Bad Blood by Jeremy Whittle is a good read.

Pantani book by Rendall is quite sad.

    Armstrong books are tosh.

Hutchinson’s hour attempt is quite funny

…seriously, we have lads turn up (the same ones) for club runs in winter when its cold and they stink. Like they dont wash their gear from the previous ride or sommat.

Done loads of road races this year and there is always someone ‘rumping up’ in the bunch, even at 20 + mph.

Have a few stinkers in our club as well.

They were all probably sat around sharing an 80p coke between them and taking up half the pub.

Was coming home from work the other day near Croston. Noticed someone in full sky kit and sky bike with his name on his helmet with a little flag….obviously one of these sportive nooobs. Anyways, passes him and didn’t look a him, next thing he comes back past (I am doing around 26/27 on the flat) and he says nowt. Gave him 0.5 mile before coming back round him, now at 28mph and he’s still there. Thinking “when is he going to let up ” – this went on for about 10 miles at which point he turned off. Not sure if I won or not.

Never used to be to arsed bout this sort of thing but was advised on here recently that ‘commuter racing’ is where its at. Looks like I’d better up my game for the next ‘race’.

I live on rivvy’s doorstep – you may as well start riding all the routes round here. Darwen, Healy Nab, Holcombe, Rivvy. Done done fast 2 hours tonight with KKF and SBB. Get some lights and get out…..you’ll be surprised how many are out at night in Winter.

I dont know if I think he is a d’ckhead ….but I know he is not as much of a d’ckhead as clarkson , hammond and may (in that order).

Was contador doping – prob not.

If he was, would I be surpised – prob not (given his previous teams and his past)

Has Armstrong doped post cancer – prob (given the doped riders he beat, the ease with which he beat them coupled with his doped teammates) [not even mentioning the retrospective blood testing – its been covered enough on other uk forums !!]

Was lemond a better cyclist than armstrong – looking at his palmares – clearly (6 world champ podiums- 3 as winner. Grand tour runner up, grand tour winner , top 5’s in Lombardy, Roubaix, San remo, Dauphine , paris-nice and when cyclists were ‘proper patrons’ (King Kelly, Fignon, Hinault, Mottet etc)and all when his best years were robbed as a result of a shooting accident)- watch Chambery in the rain with Fignon, Kelly Konyshev….Lemond was class…Lance when he won worlds, derided for his lask of respect. Watch Lance in last km of Fleche Wallone in 96 and tell me is clean.

Sorry for the rant but too many blinkered lance lovers on here.

Did I just read that someone has a 35 litre rucksack for riding WTF. I can only dismiss that as a joke. Agree with TJ. Proper seat pack with velcro straps that doesn’t rattle with tube, puncture kit, multitool and tyre levers. Pump on frame, 2 bottles on frame.

I know where KKF rides and its not even gnarley (i.e to warrant shinpads and full face) – and given that manchester is less than 15 miles away I would hardly say its the depths of the wilderness – yet you do see people with rucksacks the size of a sink (even though their cars are a best a 20 minute walk should their frame snap in half).

Bumped into some lads round rivvy the other week at the top of a climb. By the time they had f’ked about lowering their seats and pi55in about feeling how hard their tyres were for the ‘downhill’ we’d all descended, gone home had a shower and our tea.

My point being that you dont need hydraulic seatposts with bar mounted actuation , 5 tubes (as someone posted – 5!!!!!), 6 inches of travel and a Chris Bonnington rucksack when you are riding along a few fire roads. Stop readin magazines and getting sucked in (why anyone gives a toss what the likes of Fat Loretz says anyway is beyond me).

Not sure i’d get on with the new cr1 and its differing geometry

I heard on the radio the other day about an experiment where they took snails out of a garden and numbered them with tipex, then released them a mile away. The vast majority of snails found their way back in two days

Had a bad problem with slugs once in a rented house.

We had black ones getting in from outside and these brown/clear ones that never saw daylight….rank.

Sorry to say but ended up ripping out cupboards and floorboards to sort the problem.

Under the floorboards looked like a scene out of a horror but saw where they were getting in and sorted it.

No malice intended but that clip is hilarious, even more so given that its the front of an 'elite' field. You have to agree.

would just carry on at the same pace and think they were a pratt…whilst saving my legs for proper racing, you know, races that require a licence where you get points.

Aye but for the regular guy in the street training a great deal, eating nibbles and wearing lycra just to come 50th in a regional organised-race that wont even exist or be remembered by anyone in 30yrs time is abit shit really isn't it?

    no points for 50th !!

anyway, your right. I have just destroyed my racing licence. Cant wait for tomorrow's 'commute' – hope I meet someone on a cervelo so I can 'do them ' in a sprint for a town boundary or something equally as exciting. Or maybe a bus will come past and I can jump on the back of it and pretend I am like…really fast or something.

    Commuter racing. yeah !!!

are we talking about commuting or what? If I passed someone at a steady pace and they decided to sit on or pass me back, then so what. I would just carry on at the same pace and think they were a pratt…whilst saving my legs for proper racing, you know, races that require a licence where you get points.

Unless I have it all wrong and Commuter racing is where its at. Oh the sense of satisfaction when you catch a roadie with a rucksack must be something else. How dare you overtake….that showed you.

    commuter racing FFS ! knoobs
