it’s massively early for the registrations for 2012, particularly as there is now a lot of arguments going on about the new course…..

For the recreational riders on the Saturday, the big open question is if they would also ride the 3 finishing loops. I could imagine absolute chaos if that was the case.

    Indeed.
What a way to strengthen international relations…

The steepness of the hill was really lost on TV I think.

Unfortunately due to the camera bikes falling over, (combination of trying to ride at ultra slow speed up a 25% incline with zero space through the crowds) we didn’t really get to see the critical moments when Bradley went pop.
Considering how much work Froome has done on front protecting Wiggins you have to question if they were backing the wrong horse….

I don’t see much chance for the time to be recovered by Sky even though there is still a week to go. Hope I’m wrong…..

I managed to snap this one off last week.
There was around 25mm off post above the min. insert line in the frame.

I assumed that if a seatpost was sold as 400mm length including a min insertion line that anything more than that would be fine. I am not the lightest rider though at 87kg.

Perhaps I have shouldn’t have used such a lightweight seatpost but I guess I’ve learnt this lesson now.

I find it is often clear quite quickly if you have rapport (or vice versa) with the candidate.

I’ve always been interviewing for people who needed to fit into an existing team.

    Arrogance is a huge no-no…..

I’ve used these guys a few times as they seem to hold a large stock of KCNC bits & the service has been both excellent & friendly.

Granted, they seemed a touch more expensive than some of the big online retailers but service wise they have been first class….

From where did you obtain the tyre manufacturers recommended pressure?

Normally speaking, tyre manuafacturers ‘recommendation’ charts are only a compilation of the car manufcaturers data.

    As Carlos said….

I would be surprised to hear a tyre manufacture recommend otherwise!

I have both the ‘liberator’ & a Taiwanese Deal Extreme lamp.

For the price the DE is amazing & many of my cycle friends have since bought the same. (no failures till now).
The Liberator is just brilliant ;-)
I’m an expat & people always ask where I got the lamp after they’ve experienced it….

I’m an expat & of course the London riots made world news, hence together with a British colleague we were trying to describe Boris Johnson to colleagues who had seen him….

I think they thought we were exaggerating….

Surely he must be intelligent – no?

I recently had a holiday in France with the camper & as this cruises at only aroud the 100kph mark, it was just as fast on the National roads…

But of course it depends a lot on what route you are taking & whether or not there are good National road alternatives.
I imagine from the Calais – Morzine story above there aren’t good non-Autoroute options….

Not on your doorstep granted but has to be one of the great challenges?

But load index is already pre-designated by tyre size….

The N marking identifies a tyre which meets the Porsche requirements including whichever characteristics are deemed necessary by them.

    Marge

    I would strongly doubt that….
    They probably mean ‘noticeable’ difference.

If the price is the same then why not have the Mereceds spec?
Do you know if it’s worse (or better) than the replacement spec tyre?

Normally speaking, that tyre spec is readily available because of stock excess due to production forecasting issues.

    Marge

    yes they are different.
OE tyres are tuned to match the characteristics of the car (in the eyes of the manufacturer).

There can be quite some difference….

In the aftermarket the price may not be any higher, but if you absolutely specify a dedicated tyre (for example the Merc ‘MO’ spec), then the price could be higher as it would not typically be stocked. (unless perhaps you go to the Merc garage for your tyres)

    Got mine from JRA

Good service, price & were friendly when I had some questions…

There used to be a ferry from Zeebrugge to Rosyth that would have been ideal….
it was run by DFDS / Norfolkline…

I had a Volvo V50 (2.0 diesel) for >100k miles and was really pleased with it.
My lady it liked it so much she purchased a C30 after the V50 was replaced.
It is small though (think Focus rather than Mondeo) and the boot size is not great.
The Mondeo is a surprisngly good car though (when new). Well equipped, pleasant to drive & huge boot.
Unless I really needed the extra space I would still take the Volvo every time…

Sounds from your description like the tyre bead has broken…

Strange way for it to happen though. Did you have a big fight to get it fitted when originally mounted?

    Marge

Haven’t tried a set personally but they seem fairly promising on face value.
Light weight & compatible with Shimano pads & oil.
Like most KCNC things a clever bit of CNC machining copying the basic principles of a proven product, with pretty colours & usually a competitive price…

    € 320 a set…

I saw this DM article too but didn’t read it as I didn’t want to read any smug comment to a sad occurence.

I’m a motorcyclist & would feel horribly vulnerable riding without a lid but I guess this guy did indeed make his choice. I know it ultimately cost him his life (perhaps) but other than the work for the medics & associated costs he wasn’t hurting anyone else by his choice (unless we consider the risk of taking urgent paramedic support from another perhaps less selfish victim).

I guess it’s the same as wearing a seatbelt in a car argument & finally this also comes down to the costs of both immediate & potentially long-term medicare.

I’ve got a 400mm KCNC seatpost running <5mm short of max extension on my 29er Scandal & it hasn’t complained about my 87kg as of yet…. (it’s taken some good hits too)

On my Scale I run a 34.9 SASO thing ordered from Germany. Good price / weight balance. I think it’s also fairly common to run Scales with post shims no? Guy I bought my Scale frame from was doing just that…

cheapest is probably ferry with Norfolk line or maybe Sea France (good deals right now).

Looks like I will have to try & organise a business trip to the US this summer…

Anyone know a European location selling just the framesets?

I read something about a recall on the Anthem 29er.
    Do you know anything more?
I so want one of these too but the recall thing makes me a bit nervous.

I have the same road bike. :) It’s a lovely frame.
Do you know how much these wheels weigh?
I’m wondering if it’s worthwhile upgrading them to something like Dura-ace or Krysiums…

I do this quite frequently. :) (my boss gets mad at me for doing so but I find it most convenient & the best use of time)
There are a surprisingly large number of people that seem to do it! Particularly Eastern Europeans during their pan-Europe trips.

No signs saying you cannot & never had anyone complain.

You can definitely get a bike into the boot of a Puma (I was doing this before I bought a roof rack) but be damn careful when you shut the bootlid.

The handlebar (or bar end) is crying out to smash your glass. I am glad to say I never did that but it would be very easy to do.

I run one on the back of my Scale.
It does roll really well & feels pretty good for the rear end, though I don’t feel any difference in rolling to a Racing Ralph which have more grip generally…

Doesn’t matter how mad / disturbed you think it is, they find a way to surpass it each episode.
Was sorry to see Mr Lomax go but Tea-leaf remains a star.

I think it’s fantastic & better than LOG thanks to the underlying plot.

But yes – how the hell someone thinks this stuff up is a disturbing thought in itself.

BTW: In Goteborg airport they offer free plastic bags for your liquids.
    Now how pleasant is that?
In Brussels (my home aiport) there is a dispensing machine. Granted Goteborg is a comparatively small airport but I like the concept.

I also travel quite a bit & have found scissors, screwdrivers & other junk (on separate occasions) in my hand baggage after returning from trips.
My most common flight route is Brussels > Roma….

Do these work well with cycle tyres?
I have never tried them other than on motorcycle or car tyres. In that environment they are really effective but I assumed (obviously wrongly) they would not work so well on something quite so flexy as a cycle tyre.

One member of our mountainbike club over here in Belgium is also called Fanny.

I am sadly the only one who thinks references to the word Fanny are in any way amusing.
Even an American might be amused (though in a slightly different way) but I am forced to snigger to myself :(

Maybe they were booing because the Giro is so shockingly disappointing??
No-one is even close to being able to compete against Contador…

Maybe the crowd are linking his stunning superiority to potential doping but either way he’s in his own race. :(

I have only 1 wisdom tooth (I am not sure if that is as ‘interesting’ as the dentist made out – he said they nearly always come in pairs?)

    It’s absolutley do-able!
    Especially on a 29er.

Stick some skinny slicks under it & jobs a good un.

Whether you are up to it I don’t know! It’s a long time in the saddle if you’re not used to it & road riding doesn’t give you the same natural pauses or tempo changes.
