Gotta say i’ve found an independent guy on our estate and he’s ace, anything wrong with the car and he pops round and tells/ shows the problem and fixes it for a decent price. i probably wouldnt move my company on the basis of that alone, like any “trades” once you’ve found a good one its important to keep hold of ’em. The problem with KF etc is that they mostly dont give a toss and have high staff turnovers which is not good for consistent service never mind good service!!.

I’d say if you are going to boycott products that are supplied via morally dodgy companies/ countries you’ll have to go off line fellas!, Having visited the big players in the far east who almost certainly had a hand in you phone/tablet/pc etc then i’m afraid you wont have much choice. they are by european standards terrible places to work and the employees are treated pretty badly (although i’ve not been for a couple of years so they may have improved!!).

Er hang on, you’ve just changed track a bit there with the whole stealing artifacts thing or is this another part of your issue with the war in syria? As for its importance to the users of singletrack, well i’d imagine that most will be aware of the reporting of what is happening and i personally dont think the BBC are in the back pocket of the CIA/ MI6 ( i’ve no proof of course). The difference is probably that most people dont see it the way you appear to.

Is it opinion? These threads often appear to imply that kaesae already knows the answer and that we are being tested on our knowledge/ ignorance , well in my zombie western understanding anyway. Not that I don’t love a kaesae thread you understand….

I didn’t dislike the building be good greif talk about LOOK AT MEEEEEEE! from the owners. That gaff they had in the country looked like a prison, i’m all for individual approaches to design but i couldn’t help thinking a lot of what they were doing was purely for effect and not for use. Good luck to them but i don’t think i could live there (I’m far too messy!).

On the radio this morning they were talking about this and i may be wrong but i’m sure they said that india has its own aid budget for poorer countries (may have misunderstood tbf) but if true it makes no sense.

3 points 22 years ago for crossing over a double white line with the osf wheel while going round a corner, and told off for having wheels which were wider than the car (was a yoof with spacers and wide wheels!). nothing since (well a very suspicious looking drug cop at Bilbao port but that another story). never been caught speeding tho!

Project, I never had/ have issues with the policing of roads, I’m just saying that at that time an image of targeting motorist was allowed to develop at the expence of other policing duties, it wasn’t true but people believed it and that was the mistake imo. I’m not critical of the policy just the execution. I’m making no comment on the current plocies as this has already strayed way off topic except to say all my dealings with the police have been positive ( I nearly joined 10 years ago!) And take my hat off to them all.

It certainly should not be a popularity contest but allowing a perception of a no mercy approach to an element of policing did him no favours and I believe he could and should have headed off the negative publicity sooner, instead he seemed to bask in that reputation. Like all things you have to pick your battles and I just think he fought it badly

Rudebwoy, you are the first person I have ever heard say anything good about him! Without exception the perception from the people round me was he was obsessed with speeding and even spent his spare time at speed traps, also earning the nickname traffic Taliban!. It may well have been undeserved but that was the perception and it really did not help with relations with the people I know and to be honest they were glad when he went. This is a real shame because this one element of his strategy overshadowed all his other work, you can argue all you like about the legitimacy of his actions but when the public don’t support you it makes things more difficult…

From people who have come on here in the past with regard to this subject (set up accounts spcifically) and had a go about people taking a rise out of the subject of mobility scooters. I dont really care myself but i remeber the last time this came up!.

I’m gonna hold my hands up and say that i thought that this was going to be another whitewash report and nothing new would be shown and i even got to the point of thinking let it go. How bloody wrong could i be… I never believed it was the fault of the fans and assumed that the ground and the police gad just made some genuine if unforgivable mistakes. I never dreamed what has come out to be true and has really unnerved me as to my expectations of “the authorities” (sweeping generalisation). Its one thing to do the wrong thing but to then put into place a systemeatic plan of not only taking no responsability but to actively blame a wholly innocent group is so wrong i cant really find the words to be honest. I really hope this is the start of not only criminal proceedings but also a fresh start the the family and those who were there.

I’m not passing judgement but i’ve several freinds who are teachers and they talk about thier jobs a lot and guess what… some say its a nightmare (some have left the profession) and some love it and to be honest i get the impression a lot of it is to do withe the particular school. One of my friends has just moved schools and cannot believe the difference, she was very stressed and was infact very ill as a result (took her over a year to recover) and she seriously contemplated leaving, she moved school and is absolutely loving it and sees a good future. I must say she does put the hours in and is VERY organised which i suspect is part of her sucess. As I say i honestly think there is too much interference in the school especially by the school govorners who can in some cases cause huge problems and wield a lot of influence over school. this is of course my own experience and limited to what i’ve been told by people in education (and as a parent).

As has been said, as an employee you will be taxed via PAYE so that lovely payrise wont seem like quite the burden…, I doubt anyone like the bank will be much interested in you unless you have a wedge of cash to give them and they can “wisely invest” for you. Going over to 40% unless by a large amount is rarely as good as it seems. in fact if i were you i’d have tried some kind on enhance pension provision and not had the liability.

As has been pointed out, sodium lamps take a while to “heat up” so would be impractical newer LED technologies would be more suited but then as was also mentioned it would require a significant upgrade to have motion sensors. There have been experiments in europe on small scale switch off where residents can remotely switch on lights if they are out and about but i’m not aware of what the results were. I was also under the impression that it helps with the national grid in keeping stations “ticking over” until the morning demand starts.

It’s a shame they have gone but i dont think its worse for it, for me they were a bit like the pub expert in that they were entertaining but you can quite easily live without them. It’s also a shame that on many subjects they did have good (not necessarily winning) arguments and it was an education to see things from both sides. But arguments which go on for days are pointless as they are clearly never going to be resolved and when people are incapable of letting things go.
