Riding a clunker is bad enough though; I was thinking about running them at 120 the majority of the time 😕

I’m sure you’re right, I know what I meant but had no idea what it was called. 8)

Having suffered a few, I can’t see how it would work if it doesn’t limit your range of movement.

I wasn’t saying my bikes better than what I could buy today. Just that it’s 10 years old and works; which related to the posts saying that bikes of that age didn’t.

That’s comparing it to the climbing ability of the hardtail it replaced.

And my riding mate is still on his Mount Vision from the 90’s!

njee20. What do you meant by them not working?

That Intense is still my main ride, so I’m now worried about my shock! 😉

I’d say it’s more muscle memory than scran.

I you “normally” do 2 hour burn outs you’ll be good at them and your body knows how to deal with it.

However, it doesn’t know when you’re going to double that time. Just do more 4 hour rides and it’ll get easier.

I’m about to do the same, so I emailed the bike company.

I had a great reply, they basically said “do it”. In fact the lad who replied said he loved the feel of my model with longer forks on the front.

The big Q now is which 120 fork

On holidays my two, boy 10 and girl 13, will happily do 2 to 3 hour rides around forestry tracks and similar terrain. Say 10 miles tops?

At home the daughter has now discovered horses so is rarely seen at weekends, while my lad will still go out for similar rides if he’s at a loose end. But mainly he’s playing cricket/footy etc. So that ride may be once a month or so.

But, if you go at a steady pace with a few snacks or picnic, they can do quite a lot.

Hang on, we’re talking 10 years not 15.

15 years ago elastomer forks with 2″ travel were cutting edge, rear sus didn’t work and no one ran discs.

10 years ago you could get a working full suss bikes with disc brakes weighing 24lbs which climbed pretty well and had 4″ travel at each end.

Since then increased travel, but with retained stiffness seems to have been the biggest advance.

    Out riding 🙂

Totally underestimated the weather though. Summer shoes, socks, shorts, base layer, longsleeve jersey and full length lighweight gloves; bloody froze when the rain came down and the wind picked up. Schoolboy error 🙁

I’ve had a one for years – no issues at all.

Other than it’s stuck in the seatpost and won’t move a mm.

Don’t bother about water getting in; just make sure it can get out.

That’s not too far from me, and I’ve never been.

What start time are you looking at, and how long a ride are you thinking? (I have to give the Mrs the full sp)

I’ve also got two working examples for you. 20w flood and 12w spot. I’d be looking to change both for more light and increased run time.

I’d have to get you to do everything tho if you’re able; how much would that be?

I was a bit tounge in cheek about 140mm.

Onzadog, have you tried slightly longer forks on it? You have got me thinking though; Chain Reaction have an ’09 32 F100 RL in the sales that could do the job.

Before that I’d been looking at the Rockshox Revelation Team Uturn 120/150 that On-One had going cheap.

That’s good, so I can look up to 140mm 😉

Won’t a bolt through mean a new front wheel though?

I just used any old thing with stabalisers on for my kids. Then got them better stuff when they got bigger and started going on proper rides.

Don't you hang round wintersports sites?

As you have no bridleways in Uddersfield, it shouldn't be a problem.

In Alifax I use a SS for making "social" rides a bit more interesting.

I've a very old Pendle. No problems at all with it. I can get it off and on without help (just wriggle it) and it's pretty sturdy – it survived a rolled Discovery moment without a complaint!
