Foxyrider; does either do a kit you can just drop into Lumi cans? I can’t see one on either site

I see the lever example. But wouldn’t that hold true mostly when riding on the flat?

The greatest forces would occur, I’d guess, while you’re going downhill (faster travel). At that thime, the bike is angled down the hill anyway and most forces would be traveling up the fork leg by the time it reached the headset, any lateral force from impact with the terrain (at the headset) would actually be towards the rear of the bike. No?

adding a longer fork will add more stress to the frame

I’ve heard that loads of times over the years, but don’t understand the theory behind it.

Why does it stress the frame more?

BTW, bike shop say Hope keep all their programmes for the machine tools so they can produce any spares, even discontinued ones. They could have knocked one out, on request, for about £20. Worth keeping that in mind.

Not a chance, have contacted hope over this and they say-
    No!

What are you after? I could try the LBS to see if their theory works.

holyhutzpa, yep – the cage clears the outer ring by about 1mm as it swings over it. I have fitted mechs before, so made sure it was as low as I could get it.

But it still needs to be lower, and can’t see how I can do that.

I’d second the c02, but tbh I went and bought a compressor instead.

br, how big/powerful a compressor did you get?

If you couple yourself to a heart rate moniter it helps; you can actually ride for a long time in more pain than you think possible!

I use the speedo to make sure I keep cadence at about 90rpm and the HRM to show how hard to set the resistance.

I’d also suggest rigging a fan up in front of you and sticking yourself in front of a TV.

It isn’t a great deal of fun, but it may convince you to get out in the cold and wet 😉

Wake up with no hangover – fail.

Stand in freezing cold watching my lad play footy – check.

Get home sharpish before light goes to try out new front end set up on bike – check.

Amusing “moment” in front of walkers due to lack of compression damping – check.

Feeling of smugness at new forks – check.

Roast lamb when get in – check.

    Mate came good.

We used a milling machine to drill the heads off the bolts, once off you could get the bottom section out with your fingers. Not a scratch on the spider.

Bike now back together and pining to get out tomorrow to try out extra travel and girt big rotor.

I gave the wheel to the LBS to drill. They’ve drilled and even ground the disc, but because the stoopid little 3mm allen bolts are countersunk it’s near impossible. They’ve admitted defeat.

I’ve seen it somewhere that around 80/90 should be the most efficient for most people.

The pennines? Predominately limestone overlayed with small areas of millstone grit.

Not round here, no limestone at all.

    So, southern t’pennines?

Somewhere mainly rocky, no clay soil, no limestone?

    T’Pennines then.

I thought recharging them was an achievement. It’d have to be a plug n play kit or I’m knackered.

I that kind of like brimming the reservoir (and letting it spill when the top goes back on), then bleeding off some fluid once the system is sealed?

A big plastic hammer and the headset bolt does the trick.

Going out with different people helps a lot. Otherwise maps and just riding any track you spot to see where it goes.

Sorry to hear it. Not a great time in the building trade.

Can’t think of any big projects round Halifax at the moment, but I’ll keep my eyes open.

Have you driven round Lowfields at Elland; I do know there’s a new unit going up there soon. Marshalls Construction (Elland) have all the contracts there.

I do usually take water if I’m going out for over two hours, but I’ll only eat if it’s going to be around six hours. For 3 or 4 hours I wouldn’t bother.
