Forget about all the stats, just do some normal riding for a few months then just sit on the start line and go for it. I have done 2 solo efforts, I will never win but I really enjoyed them as I put myself unde no pressure at all

Had three back ops, ended up having L5 fused, haven’t looked back. I had a disc shaved, loads of injections etc, but non worked. The pain relief from the fusion was instant. Couple months of physio then I started my riding career. This was 15years ago. Not looked back.

Having had one spinal fusion and two diseconomies, do not give up. Riding has no pressure on the main nerves in your legs that your damaged discs will have been compressing onl the movement is good for physio. A full sus takes much pain away.

In a nutshell, take what you are told with a pinch of salt, find out your capabilities by trying. Email me if you need more info as I was told the same as you, I took all advice on board but pushed my own limits after 3 operations. Cycling is a great recovery sport for back ops (within reason, I.e downhill and crashing not great for recovery)
