It’s a lovely place thegreatape but I’ve never played there, the cafe is lovely and I often pass it and wish I had my clubs in the car

    Thanks all, very helpful

I read somewhere that an electric chainsaw can require different PPE than a petrol one is that true? Something about the way it can cut into trousers etc?

Also does anyone have any thoughts on the chainsaw that is currently on sale in LIDL, which inspired this post in the first place?

I’ve never met you but you have always sounded very much like a decent chap on here, and the response from those who know you better definitely seems to back that up. There have been posts with better advice than I could come up with already, so rather than add confusing noise to it all i’ll keep it short. Keep talking about it to any one and every one, for what it is worth I’d be happy to talk, email in profile for contact details.

If you are ever in the Fort William area and fancy a ride let me know, I’d be happy to show you around :)

I used to live close to the Lambourn downs and rode there regularly

I came across that herd of deer on a night ride once, hundreds of glowing moving dots freaked me out for a bit until I worked out that it was the reflection of the deers eyes

The race horses are cool too when they’re going flat out, so different to see in a natural landscape rather than at the races, it’s amazing to see something so perfectly designed to the job in hand in full flight!

    I’ve got both

The hewaddywaddy is a great jacket for cold fresh mornings, the insulated front makes a big difference, v noticeable when you stop and the wind hits the uninsulated section. I’m not sure how waterproof it is. Keep an eye on sizing, I’m between l & xl in Howies sizes so went for xl, should really have gone for an L it’s not got the athletic cut I’d have expected.

The shorts are awesome, if they did them in a another colour I’d get a second pair

A sunny ride in the highlands on a new bike. I realised once again how lucky we are to have what we have and how quickly it can be taken away.

Issue 12 the Long way to work article and the bit about the tree

That struck a chord with me when I read it when it first came out and it did so again when I went back to read it again.

Jenn – I never had the chance to meet you, but your writing brought out as much about the emotions that riding can produce as about the experiences. The ability to capture this is wonderful. I am truly sorry to hear the news and my thoughts are with you and those close to you.

Another vote for the ibert safe t seat, it’s very simple and both kids rode in it very happily. We did the green run at Laggan with my daughter shouting “faster faster” which was very entertaining.

I’m about to put ours up for sale if anyone is interested?

    Is that right?

A shimano 11 speed cassette will fit on a 9 speed freehub?

That would make things a bit easier

Big Dummy is on fire at the moment, I’m enjoying his work on the various threads he’s popping up on :)

OP – sounds like you had an awesome time, try hard to have an equally awesome time doing other things. Everyone has “the one that got away” yours will just be more awesome than most :)

Results don’t seem to be up yet, but I can report that my legs are toast after 5 laps solo

Strava via my phone reckons 1800m climbing, I’d be interested to see how that compares to a more accurate measurement.

Course was v similar to last year, taking in the blue descent and then the world champs. Bit disappointed by the lack of variation,

Good atmosphere on the course though :)

Can you freeze beans to make them last longer?

    Or does that ruin them?

I’m wondering about buying in bulk to reduce postage charges

    Genuinely saddened by the news

I loved the discworld books and my son is just getting into the Carpet People.

His take on life was wonderful and he had a magnificent turn of phrase

He has provided me with so many smiles throughout the years!

I’m looking forward to experiencing them again with my son as he reads the books, although this time there will be tinge of sadness

I’ve a ’62 plate V60. No problem fitting a bike with front wheel removed, I didn’t try particularly hard to fit it fully assembled. It might be ok if you twist the bars round in line with the wheel?

I’ve never tried more than one bike so I’m not much help, I got mine with a towbar and use a rack for journeys with more than one bike

Just back from chat with the surgeon prior to mine, apparently there has been a cancellation so I’m booked in for next week, rather quicker than expected but good to get it done.

No shaving beforehand required apparently but i’m rather concerned that the stats for ‘failure'( tubes rejoining of their own accord) are quite high I thought, 1 in 2000, and the only way you find out is when your wife gets pregnant!

    Spaghetti with Pesto and Peas

Cook spaghetti and add frozen peas with 5 mins to go, drain off, stir in pesto (& cream Cheese if you fancy) and your good to go. If you haven’t added the cream cheese, grated cheddar or parmesan on top.

10 minutes, one pan, minimal faff. and relatively healthy :)

    Thanks for the info everyone

Its useful to know as it will likely come down to the balance of cost to replace worn components vs cost of a replacement bike.

Apparently the folding element appeals so its good to know it is effective :)

Didn’t sleep much last night as the wind was roaring around the house, we’re about halfway up a hill so goodness knows what it was like for the more exposed houses at the top! A nice conifer in our garden snapped through the trunk at the base which is a real shame as it was a nice tree :(

On the drive into Fort william this morning for work there were less trees down than I expected, although there was carnage in Glenfinnan apparently.

What is the expectation for tonight? BBC are predicting a return of similar strength

I would definitely recommend thinking it through very carefully!

We got a cockapoo puppy in January this year, for the same allergy reasons as OP

It’s true they don ‘t shed and the temperament is lovely, however the demand on time and energy is huge, with a four year old and a seven year old plus the puppy it’s been a full on 10 months and I can’t say I’m sure what the benefit is. My wife and kids love her which is great but I could take her or leave her, loads of work and little reward.

I’m possibly a little grumpy as she’s eaten the in laws lounge carpet today as well as shredding part of their garden and tensions have been running high!

    Hi

I’ve got an old 27.2 gravity dropper if you are interested?

Silver, 70mm drop I think, 400mm long, , right hand remote, in need of a bit of a service but working fine.

I do like to drink a nice coffee

    my wife is a fan
    but finds it too bland
so adds flavours of vanilla or toffee

my uncle is married for the second time, no kids with first wife, 3 with the second.

An off the cuff remark at my cousins 21st about his dads first wife was met with “…what do you mean, Dads first wife?”

It was never a secret but at the same time a good time to discuss it never presented itself. However the best way to find out about it was not in the middle of semi-drunken conversation.

There may not be a good time or an easy way to tell raise it, but wouldn’t you rather it was you telling your daughter rather than her finding out in a random way?

We’ve used a SafeTseat for our daughter and it was brilliant.

The seat clamps under the stem with the childs legs going either side of the steerer tube. I really liked it as it meant that I was always aware of how my daughter was doing, she could see where she was going and I could talk to her easily. Things I didn’t feel were easy with a rear mounted seat.

you need to have 10-15mm of spacers under the stem to make it fit.

    http://www.safe-t-seat.co.uk/

By sheer chance ;) we’re going to be selling ours if you are interested?

Did 4 laps solo, the lack of training hit home hard on the 4th ! Now sitting with ice on my left Achilles and a beer in hand.

Course was great, lots of climbing and some good descents too:) great atmosphere on course and off, especially at the dj at the haggis trap:) Definitely keen to do it next year.

Well done and thank you to No Fuss and of course the marshals!
