Finally got round to riding this on Friday evening, what an awesome trail :) had a lot of fun riding it and will be doing it again this evening. I got a bit confused as to where it ended as I'm still finding my bearings reound there, but it turned out I was on the 10under route, a wee bit before the climb up to the top of the fun descent bit (can't remember the name but its the bit before nessie)

I'm starting to explore the unmarked trails round there now, and so far its great :)

When are you thinking of doing this Ton? I've just moved to around there and am always looking for new stuff

Rode HT for years, got a FS to try it out and found it took a few rides to adjust to it. Now I've got into it it has allowed me to progress my riding. The travel at the back acts as a ball inflator meaning I'm more likely to try stuff. Once I know I can do it I'll go back and try it on the HT. It also allows me to go further as the FS is more comfy for longer rides.

my first was an older Kona Dawg (100mm rear/140mm front) which I'm in the process of upgrading to a Prophet. If I get on with the Prophet I'll be popping the Kona onto the classifieds if you're interested in a good 'first FS' bike?

Two Prophets! – Thats proper posh ;)

I'm looking forward to getting mine out on the trails. I've got a set of Pikes that will be going on there to begin with, but I'm tempted by putting a set of Lyrics or similar on there, keeping them at 140mm but benefitting from the burlyness up front. Not sure about the weight penalty though.

    Cheers GEDA

It is a HV shock, previous owner reckoned he had no problems with it, so will try it out. However I've also read stuff about the HV not working well with the Prophet so if it doesn't work out I'm prepared to change it. I'm pretty sure its easy to change the aircan to a normal one if needs be.

    Excellent – thanks everyone

now, next question – running the rear mech cable through the swing-arm, do you do that with the outer running the full length, or do you end the outer at the beginning and start it again when it comes out the other end?

Also any tips for the best way of getting the cable out the other end?

Thats the site I'm using Jamie, anytime I click on a link it takes me straight to the sign in page and then I can't get anywhere with it.

It may well be a sign, I'll try again at home as if its working for eveyrone else it might be an issue with a firewall here.

Whoops – sorry Ken, I thought it had been a work in progress for you. At least as a S/H purchase you've not an emotional investment in it.

From looking at the picture of your bike again the BB does look high, I'd try some lower travel forks and maybe a higher rise stem / bars?

I've got a new (to me) FS frame in the garage at the moment and my excitment about building it up is tempered by the knowledge that it may not work out an I'm hoping. I guess that's part of the buzz of new bikes :)

Have you talked to Curtis about it? They may have some suggestions about possible spec or riding styles?

Buying a Curtis is rarely a complete impulse, you must have thought about the purchase and chosen that frame for a reason, if its not matching your expectations I would think Curtis would be keen to help resolve it.

From what I know about Curtis they may be able to tweak the frame a bit if there is something wrong there.

mine has, with new (to me) frame, unfortunately its still in the box as I've not had time to do anything with it. Riding tonight and busy all day saturday :(

    Saturday evening though… :)

What happens when you take the wheels off? Does the frame then pivot around the BB axle, or is it held in position?

my LBS recommended wet lube as an alternative as they didn't have any fork lube in stock at the time

Ken, new bikes take time to bed in, sometimes its tinkering with setup, sometimes you need to adjust the way you ride. going from a 5spot to a HT is a big difference, you will need to change your riding style a bit going from one to the other.

like a new pair of jeans or shoes they never quite feel right at first, you need to get used to them and they need to stretch a wee bit to fit you perfectly. Bikes is much the same, but you'll need to fit new stuff rather than have them stretch ;)

The best bit about my work is that at the moment Steve Peat is razzing his bike down a hill 5 minutes drive away from where I'm sitting :)

z1ppy is your shock a high volume one or is it normal with the Boost valve?

The one on the frame I've bought is an RP2HV – just wondering what experience there is out there of this shock – especially on a prophet

Perfect RTL – There'll be a Gravity Dropper going on mine too,

z1ppy – Cheers – now can't wait for it to arrive and get it built up. Been wanting a prophet for ages and finally one popped up when I had the funds to go for it.

I was about to post exactly this thread as I've just bought a prophet on the classifieds and am eagerly awaiting its arrival.

Anybody got a pics of a black one?

Dirty Rider, are you using 160mm forks on yours? how does it ride with those ?

Just popped up in my lunch break and had a moch round the pits.

Some of the set ups the big teams have are pretty cool, GT and Evil seem to have spent the most money, although the Syndicates set up was pretty big too.

Saw Peaty, Minaar, Kovarik and all the Athertons all just chilling out.

very excited about the weekend now :)

weather = scorchio up here at the moment. its not supposed to last though :(

Def use stock rather than boiling water for cous cous.

Roast veg, carrots, butternut squash, garlic etc, is always good

Does anyone know if you're able to enter and leave the site easily during the day? My son would love to see it, but there is no way he'd last the full day there, so I'm considering going with him, taking him home, and then heading back. Any reason why this would be a bad plan?

I'm not sure what the "drink" is, it may just be non-alcoholic beverages.

If it is alcoholic I'll be the crumpled heap in the corner by mid afternoon ;)

As far as I can see, access to a VIP marquee which has food & drink included, a VIP section of the grandstand and the gondola, which I would imagine is a part of a normal ticket anyway.

So basically a comfy(ish) seat and some free food. I'm definitely not complaining though as it saves me the price of the tickets I was going to buy anyway :)

As you head up the last climb to the very top of the trail, just before you turn off onto the singletrack bit there is a trail that drops off down to the right which is the blue crane

i can give more detailed directions if that's not clear,

Any hints for the best way to view the course, things to do etc?
