hmm not filling me with confidence

One option will be to change the start dates to fit, which would do the job but is not ideal.

    Cool

Sounds like something I should have found out about a few years ago –

Still at least I can do something about it now

    Thanks

I’ll take it apart over the weekend and have a look. New bolts or a new BB are slightly easier to take than a new crank arm, so hopefully it will be that rather than rounding the crank.

    it is square taper

    hmm not good news

I didn’t use a torque wrench, thinking it would be ok which is probably an expensive mistake to have made. :(

The top 4 in mens tennis all seem to be nice guys who respect each other and other players too. Its probably the sport with the best public image at the moment as there is no arrogance or bad behaviour from the best known participants.

edit – maybe i’m being naive in light of fuzzywuzzy’s comment

TINAS – the cannondale is being used regularly. Its currently dressed up as a bit of a CX bike but may have normal wheels put on it soon. It is a great bike :)

Few days late in posting this. It was taken at the weekend though.

Its now exactly unknown or particularly remote, but was the best I could do.

are there any iphone (or similar) apps that can be used for keeping track of people that could be useful for things like this?
I guess they are dependant on having a phone signal to really work well.

not a road bike, or near a road, but a mtb with 700cc wheels, which is kinda where the thread started.

The frost heave around Spean has been pretty bad, the last few rides have not been much fun. I’ve not ventured very far afield though.

I might be interested in joining you for all or part of this too, depending on my availability. Young kids and long days in the saddle don’t really mix.

EDIT – having read the above, I’m out – looks good though

I think you’re right with that 13thfloormonk. I’ve gone a bit of the way along the puggy line from the forest path, but not all the way along to where it meets up with the Witches trails area. I’ve been trying to explore round that area when I can, but my time is pretty limited at the moment.

the forest path going up to puggy line is a lot more fun going the other way, I’ve been looking for a way of connecting it up with a loop, but the bridge I wa hoping to use looked rather dodgy, and the path on the other side was essentially a bog, so not ideal for a quick blast.

I have to say I read the thread title as July, not January! Then had to double check that you were planning it for this weekend.

Looking out the window here (Fort William) past the rain beating against the window I can see there’s snow lying at 600m or so. If this weather continues it will be a real war of attrition for you but best of luck!

Let me know if there is anything I can help with (email in profile) seeing as I’m based at the turnaround point of your trip.

This is not a complaint, more a question. I’m a fan of Dirt and am perfectly happy for Renners to pop over every now and then and highlight interesting content on the Dirt site, but is there ever any traffic the other way, eg Singletrack missionaries spreading the gospel of bimblecore to the masses on Dirt?

    Love it :)

I’ve run it rigid with on one carbons which works really well. I think 440mm is the recommended length to match the travel it’s corrected for.

Cheers all for the suggestions, now sorted. Most of the driving in the last month was on snow and ice the 4wd was necessary.

looked at rav4’s and crv’s for my wife – we ended up getting an x-trail which we hadn’t even thought of before we started looking.

felt better built and drove better than the other two.

    Rav4 has a tiny boot
CRV felt that you were a wee bit disconnected from the road and the build quality didn’t seem that good.
XTrail seemed to be step up in quality from the other two.

This is based on limited experience in test driving those cars, your may find differently ;)

The new Blue Pig will take a tapered fork, but that’s really only because I kept seeing tapered and 1.5in forks on clearance and thought it’d be nice to be able to make a steel frame that worked with them

Hmm interesting :) I’m seriously tempted by those tapered forks though – super cheep :)

Which forecasts are you looking at Steven?

As far as I can see it will be cold, but not expecting any more snow, are you seeing anything different?

TS- Not yet but I intend to next year, the little one has taken up a fair bit of time and energy, but now she’s a wee bit bigger I should get out more.

If you end up getting stuck in hospital and need spares etc let me know.

    Hi

from spean bridge to fort william this morning the roads were not clear – cars were moving along it slowly 20mph or so. they were being gritted but not making much difference. Its been snowing pretty heavily since, so I wouldn’t fancy heading all the way up to Inverness today.

apparently travel was not recommended along the a82 south of FW this morning

where are you coming from and would the Belford do instead?

We’re planning the same journey on the 23rd – Fort William to Bath. The plan is to do it overnight so the roads are empty and the kids are asleep (3 & 1). We’ll keep an eye on the weather and see what happens.

I’ve been hoping for a while that I’ll be able to get a few shots that are worthy of this thred. I reckon these are pretty cool although nowhere near the quality of some on here.

    Slight hijack

What is the recommended type of boarding used for lofts? ours is half boarded and I’d like to complete it. the stuff that is there has nice junctions so that it slots together easily – sort of like tongue and groove. is there a minimum thickness that you can stand on? Also where can you get it?

    Cheers

My bikes have fit in fine backwards too (front wheel facing out of the bed). They have to fit in at an angle though, so you would struggle to fit more than one in like that. I’ve found that by resting the saddle on the sill of the side you have a good few inches of room for manoevure. Diff hardtops have different shapes though too, mine has a fairly vertical back window.

    1 – She’s Fit
    2 – She’s my best friend
3 – from day one I missed her whenever I wasn’t with her

When we met I wasn’t long out of a long term relationship, so was happy being single. She collared me at a party and had a real go at me for trying to seduce a mutual friend away from her boyfriend. I had no idea what she was talking about. Misunderstanding resolved, we then chatted for ages. Being slightly drunk I pointed out that her backless dress must mean she wasn’t wearing a bra – she said this was true. I then offered to do the job of the missing item of clothing – she accepted :) and we’ve been together since :):):)

I still can’t believe I said “I’ll be your bra” and she can’t believe she accepted. Its the most successful chat up line I’ve ever used!

She was mortified when this story was retold by my best man at our wedding.

IME with the double cab you can fit a bike in with front wheel on fairly easily, just put the saddle down. Both HT and FS – I guess it depends on the wheelbase.

    Slightly off topic hijack :)
