I heard that Nilox cameras were re-branded for Australia. Strangely Bike Radar reviewed the Foolish and the Swann, yet gave the Foolish much higher marks. Road CC liked it too. In fact I haven’t seen a bad review for the Nilox cameras. I wonder who is actually making them?

Sad about Contour, but GoPro certainly isn’t the only show in town. I was horrified by the reports of the battery life for the Hero 3 Black, so I sensibly posted on the forum and someone pointed me in the direction of an Italian company called Nilox. Their F60 isn’t exactly pretty, and certainly isn’t dainty, but ticks pretty much every action cam box. In fact it looks like they ticked the boxes and then went on to cram them with incredibly useful stuff. The camera is compatible with GoPro mounts too.

Lots of good reviews for their previous model, the ‘Foolish’.

Thomson dropper is performing manfully so for for me.

In another month I’ll post a smug rider-review and you peasants can all march me off the the guillotine.

    And when I say “performance”

First good laugh of today there 😆

That Sony wheel footage is great! Never seen a POV movie from that angle before.

It’s a toss-up between the Sony AS30 and the Nilox F-60 then. The Outsider in me says go for the Nilox! Specs look great, and the bundle is generous. Battery life is another big factor for me. I still can’t believe the Gopro only gets around 40 minutes.

    Nilox F-60

You’ll have to use Google translate for the link above, unless you speak Italian.

Nilox’s compatibility with GoPro mounts is another big temptation.

Some great stuff on that site, unsponsered. The Gopro Black etc are impressive.

Love the Nilox stuff! Never heard of it but actually looks pretty good.

I’ve been using the Troy Lee A1 for the last week. There’s a lot of hype about how comfortable it is…and it’s all true! Quality is through the roof too: Even the impact foam is gloss-lacquered.

I moved from a Giro Xen, one of the best AM helmets ever, to a POC Trabec and then to the A1. The Troy Lee is the best of the three by quite a margin. The retention system and padding can be tuned to such a degree that the straps aren’t needed to keep the helmet firmly on your head. Not that I’d advise doing that 😉

Overheating hasn’t been a problem, but the weather hasn’t been exactly hot. Ventilation seems excellent though.

I’ve got the Cyclops Black Gloss and it looks stunning on or off.

I had some dealings with Upgrade and they were absolutely first class. My 140mm Velvets have been so much better than I could have hoped too.

Yep. Looking at either a Gopro or the upcoming Sony AS30V (their latest action cam).

Contour went bust a few days ago so that’s them rules out.

Any reasons not to buy a Gopro?

    I like mudguards that work

    I’m…speechless 😯

I highly recommend the MN rear guard over anything I’ve used before. It’s as effective as the best, yet so much lighter and and has a genuinely quick release catch. It can also be rolled up into a short tube for storage, making it completely portable in a backpack. Genius.

I’ve gone full Mucky Nutz. Tiny weight for what appears to be complete protection from mud. Everything stayed put on downhillish stuff on Saturday and nothing dropped off on a bumpy XC ride today.

It could indicate madness to ride with anything else given their effectiveness and feathery lightness…

The latest crud race guards are a big improvement. A bit of a pain to set up, but once done, they make a very subtle impression visually. Entirely effective coverage too.

Lots of good stuff on Wiggle at the moment. Giro Feature is very Zeitguist-y at the moment too.

the Fuji X10 smashes all the boxes wide ope

I ditched the X10 for the RX100. The X10 is a lovely camera to hold and operate, but the picture quality is lightyears behind the RX100.

I’ve just received my Troy Lee A1 helmet through the post today. Personally, I think it looks fantastic (Gloss Cyclops version)! The quality of construction is amongst the best I’ve seen, and I rarely skimp when paying for helmets. As for the fit…it’s hands down the best fitting MTB helmet I’ve tried. Straight from the box it cupped my head, and with a couple of turns of the dial at the back, it’s absolutely snug.

All the feature boxes are ticked too. The straps are good quality, with lockable adjusters. The peak can be locked in any position, and the padding looks really high quality. The exposed styrene is also gloss lacquered. That’s unusual. If you ever had the pre 2010 Giro Xen, then it’s a lot like that, only better.

It’s replacing a POC Trabant. God how I grew to hate that mahusive marshmallow of a helmet. Nothing wrong with the quality (very high), or fit however. It just sat very high on my head, and was very wide too.

I got mine from Cyclestore UK. Very quick delivery.

From your description I’d go with a screed. Better for the long term, assuming the base layer is stable.

Some good clues in there regarding the 29er target market me feels.

    Yeah, what does that mean?

Agree about the dropper seatpost, but it depends on your local terrain of course. They take some getting used to, and initially they’re a distraction, but they do have a big impact on how and what you ride.

I’ve no gear lever issues on the i-spec system. No way is it one finger specific. I can use one or two fingers as required without interference from the shifter paddles. I adjusted the brake lever reach and slid the gear pods inboard.

the I-spec attachment of the shifters means that the shifter levers get in the way if you try to use 2 fingers on the brakes

Interesting. I definitely don’t have that problem. Could be a set-up issue. The gear pods can be adjusted on a rail

Had a radiator on intermittently since last week, and it’s on now for the first time during the day.

As ever, it’s warmer outside that indoors. How?!

Don’t kinesis do 650b for their ‘small’ sizes? Anything medium or above is 29. Could be wrong.

Anyway, the Sync is just gorgeous!

+1 for nikk. £320 will get you an awful bike. For Gods sake make sure you don’t get anything with Alivio either!

Can’t believe this subject is even under discussion. It’s up there with ‘do you use a saddle?’

    mangatank

Everyone hates 650b in a way that they don’t hate 29ers, and 29ers involve some worrying compromises ( rear mud and mech clearance, toe overlap at the front, stand over height etc). 26ers have no apparent disadvantages whatsoever.

My gut feeling is that 26″ is the long term bet. And let’s face it, when did you last hate riding on 26 inch wheels?

    mangatank

Here’s the thing. Before 29ers, mud clearance was a deal clincher in bike design. Mud matters.
